What's stopping people from using bitcoin?

I think people mostly don't know or don't understand what bitcoin is, that's why, as it is said in the thread for newbies - it is an ingenious mathematical technology - and sometimes that can be a little scary for people.

yes, i am totally agree. same moment is also here in my country. no one don't know about bitcoin. what is the bitcoin? how it is works ? how it is transacting? if they will know everything about it. here this is the main reason for people not using bitcoin.  

Yes lack of knowledge is the biggest stopping for many people from using bitcoins. Unless all the bitcoiners feel their responsibility of spreading out bitcoin ecosystem's awareness to some people, this barrier may never be broken.

I dont think so. What if you are in a country where your money is really in low value. You want to make something out of other currencies. That is why people work overseas just too increase their income getting salaries from a different currency. Just think of this if you are tipped by a 1 dollar against a 1 mexican peso. I would prefer dollar right?

I think you have a point, but I think the great thing that makes people stop using bitcoin is because the price is not stable, it is also the main reason that makes large investors stop using bitcoin because the invested capital at current prices $ 600-700 bitcoin still at that moment must have now will feel disadvantaged

Absolutely right, it's many reasons why someone stoping people for using bitcoin.. for some this week, fluctuations is so terrible. It can down almost one hundred dollars.

I can't say for people in other countries but in my country I can mention a few reasons.
No so many people use Internet.
People are skeptic and scared to send money or pay something over Internet.
People don't know about Bitcoin.
If they heard they don't believe in such concept of virtual money.
Only 1 Bitcoin ATM in whole country and only a few merchants accept Bitcoin.

Absolutely right, it's many reasons why someone stoping people for using bitcoin.. for some this week, fluctuations is so terrible. It can down almost one hundred dollars.

Some people may feel like playing on stock market, where they have to watch prices and make quick decisions. How can we convince them, that they will benefit from using bitcoin? Volatility is the main obstacle in the process of wide adaptation.

Bitcoin is a really nice payment method but people think bitcoin will fall apart soon. The funny thing is bitcoin has a great future ahead and will be get more popular in the days ahead of us.

I think there are several reasons, the the most important ones for me are?

- Just a few people use Internet for other purposes beyond google, facebook, twitter, instagram.

- There is a initial barrier, cause people are skeptic and still scared of paying for stuff via the web

- Bitcoin and the whole crypto thing is not such a trivial matter for the average citizen

When you introduce something to people around you, you have to tell them both advantages and disadvantages and then they will decide whether to accept or reject the new techonology, and if they take advantages positively then they won't quit.

Nothing is stopping people from using bitcoins, maybe the only thing that maybe stopping them is legal issues. I have friends who love bitcoins but not use them much due to legal issues and all, maybe one day they will love BTC though.

Not a high enough acceptance rate. You can't pay taxes with it, you most likely can't get paid in it, and not enough merchants have accepted it yet.

It's more relegated to buy and hold as an investment right now. The people spending it are miners.

They will regret in future that why they didn't started to use bitcoins, as the bitcoin can be a global currency in future and the value of bitcoin would be much more, So if you don't get into bitcoins at a moment then it would a biggest mistake.

in some countries there is a ban on using bitcoin, I heard even if still perform using bitcoin, will be fined or prison. maybe its reason?

Even I didn't knew abiut bitcoin a few days ago, so lack of knowledge or insufficient knowledge is the main problem of not using btcs..
 
Also,  maybe there is a danger of losing the btc wallet or someone may hack and steal our btcs..

Nice conclusion Sherlock. Of course they are using fiat, what else? It's not about changing currencies, I'm sure if you could buy everything with bitcoins paying less everyone would switch immediately but you can't buy everything with bitcoin right now, not even close.

Yes and many of them have not even heard about bitcoins, so using it as a currency is a very big deal for them, and many countries don't accept bitcoins as a mode of payment so people don't know that they can make a payment using bitcoins.

Bitcoin is connected to black market and others things heavy,that fiat were connected and still but people think they created those coin and is a ponzi thing to steal your money,besides those we may say the oldest people doesnt know work with technology soo they avoid it.The others well they dont wanna to search or know about bitcoin ,as they dont believe on it ,soo lets say that are several reasons to dont use bitcoin but is when you dont care about what may happen tomorrow for me is the same.Bitcoin has bringeg huge investors into it ,the fact it has already 7 years and a value of 400 dollars for 1 btc should make people start to search about it atleast.

I don't believe that is entirely the reason for people to not use bitcoin but it maybe a part, people who are outsiders to the bitcoin world read news and every now and then there are bad news associated with bitcoin, which includes scams or thefts, like the recent Cryptsy one and that puts them a little on the back foot.

One thing is very curious about those news,with fiat nothing bad happens,wars are financed by fiat being dollars or other currency,and now bitcoin with huge potencial is being connected to just the darkeness side of the life,i believe really that this all news against bitcoin is from competitors ,trying to stop bitcoin adoption that will happen soon or later,its too late to kill bitcoin.

Anything can be connected to the black market and since the beginning of time people did illegal things. If not money then salt, gold, feathers, whatever. Now bitcoins. The medium is not the problem. But I understand - bitcoin is powerful and the banking system is afraid of that. It's just like the oil industry trying everything to stop alternative fuel, because they would lose money.
