Well that was lucky!  Cheesy The bug was found by a group of MIT researchers and they disclosed it first to Devs.

One wonders what would have happened if it was a hacker who found this bug...

Perhaps with the next bug (if it is) there is not so much luck  Undecided

Transactions must be included in a block to be properly completed. When you send a transaction, it is broadcast to miners. Miners can then optionally include it in their next blocks. Miners will be more inclined to include your transaction if it has a higher transaction fee.

Nothing would happen. IOTA is protected against such things. The migration was done as a part of a scheduled upgrade because protection mechanisms become useless once they are revealed.

The IOTA price fell 15% following the revelation that the MIT Media Lab’s Digital Currency Initiative (DCI) had discovered “cryptographic vulnerabilities” in IOTA’s hashing function. Although the IOTA developers dispute some aspects of the report and have already issued a patch to address the findings, the DCI post garnered a lot of attention on social media.

No idea what you mean. Not just a troll... A troll lives under a bridge... A bridge can be sold... Opposite of salesman is a customer... Sorry, can't solve your puzzle.

Wow, a patched vulnerability created this much sell off? Are people just not reading that its no longer vulnerable? Its bolded in the article. I don't even hold any iOTA and Im now mad that I don't have any free fiat to buy at this price.

Why has IOTA invented a new cryptographic cipher and not implemented a standardised one? Is there any reason? No offense, just want to know.

Don't trust any exchange!

It wasn't vulnerable at all actually. This is something I'm going to argue with Neha Narula and her team about. Need several days to prepare the response.

None of the standardized algos suited IOTA needs.

Is it safe to send payments to the same wallet address several times? Or do I need to generate new wallet for each new transaction? It generates new wallets when I click "attach to tangle". But if I already have previously generated wallet can I use it for multiple incoming (not outgoing) payments?

Probably because these scientists proclaimed a single IOTA transaction weighting above 10kb in size.
Plain untruth.
But still they claimed to know each and every detail about the Tangle ?!!
And their "attack" never did worked, at all.

It definitely does not look like a scientist report to me. It is more like a typical cryptocurrency world report with exaggerated and fault information to manipulate the price. It is sad that it comes from a MIT affiliate. It seems that so many researchers today trade coins and are driven by the monetary interests. It is sad.

I can't believe that the blog author was so absessed with the price and market cap of IOTA. What market cap has anything to do with science reseach? The author was almost begging people to sell. It is sad.

Yes, it is safe as long as it does not have any outgoing transaction.

It's neither news nor it's bad. This is just straight up FUD emphasizing the price.
