It doesn't work for me, no matter what node I use. I use IOTA light wallet 2.3.1.
Since 2017 I'm trying to open the wallet to access my funds but allways see the message "could not connect to remote node". How can I access my funds now?

Download the current version 2.5.7
https://github.com/iotaledger/wallet/releases

As @dogebearman posted, you are using an outdated version that is not work properly anymore. Upgrade light wallet, or better, switch to Trinity wallet.

I installed the Trinity wallet, opened it with the old seed and it shows zero balances, why is that?

Are you sure that the entered seed is correct? For security reasons, the wallet does not allow the seed to be copied and pasted since copied data is stored in the main memory of the computer and thus there is a theoretical chance for hackers to read it out. That's why the software requires you to enter it manually. With 81 characters, input errors can therefore happen.
Yes I am sure. I even logged in several times. The seed is 81 characters. I was surprised to see 0 coins. Should I do this?: https://matthewwinstonjohnson.gitbooks.io/iota-guide-and-faq/getting-started/guide-transition.html

This article is for a deeper insight into project - IOTA opens Cordinatorless Testnet!

https://blog.iota.org/a-coo-less-testnet-879ad17ca1af

You can see more info whats happening with IOTA and transparency on this thread:

https://www.reddit.com/r/CryptoCurrency/comments/axndc1/iota_opens_cordinatorless_testnet/

I had come to post the same thing but you told me Grin I'm really curious and hopeful to see the test result; Iota without coordinator will attract many other investors and companies that, at the moment, are reluctant to believe and enter the project.

Finally, I post an excellent article by an Italian IOTA evangelist, which explains us other characteristics of IOTA such as identification, anti-counterfeiting and ownership of products.

No. I have changed the OP.

I see. Thank you for your prompt response and maybe it might be good if the OP will be updated with the latest links to the website and social media channels. I did find this site -  https://www.iota.org/ and I assume its your official project website? Is that correct?

Hi,

I have installed trinity for desktop. Initially it worked fine and I got coins from exchange. But on all the next starts I always get the following messages:

Error fetching account info. Trying again with a different node
Node error: Node returned error while fetching your account information.

I tried changing nodes but it either says that node is not synchronized or the same "Node returned error while fetching your account information".

Then I installed android trinity. First few starts it worked without problems. But now during every start I get the same messages:

Error fetching account info. Trying again with a different node
Node error: Node returned error while fetching your account information.

I changed the node a couple of times but it did not help.

How to solve the problem?

I need to mention that while trying to change a node I get this result from most nodes:

There was an error changing node. Try again.

Are there any other wallets available besides trinity? Please give me links.

I started today and suddenly android trinity could connect to the network successfully. But desktop trinity - either "Node out of sync" or "Error changing node".
Node on android used - https://mama.iota.family:14267
When trying to select the same node on desktop it says "Node out of sync" and most other nodes (e.g. https://nodes.iota.cafe:443).
When selecting these nodes https://pool.trytes.eu, https://durian.iotasalad.org:14265, https://node.iota-tangle.io:14265 - getting "Error changing node"
message. My desktop version 0.5.0-RC1 (I also tried 0.4.6 before) on Windows 10. Android device is connected to the same wifi internet as desktop pc.

This network is a joke if it works like this that you cannot even start a wallet without problems.

I tried Wallet 2.5.7, it connects and I can see my balance (using the node http://heimelaga.vodka:14265). But I am not sure this wallet is safe for using as it is old.

Node durian.iotasalad.org is offline. See here to check and find a node from iotasalad.org that is online and completely synchronized. I prefer patato.iotasalad, it works for me.

Rather, I recommend to use the node list from iota.dance to find a good node. I have never had any connection problems by choosing a node from the list with a good number of neighbors, current milestone and less load.

I entered the node https://potato.iotasalad.org:14265 and got this message:

Duplicated node - The custom node is already listed.

Ok, then I found this node in the list clicked Save and got a message: Node out of sync. Change node or try again. I tried few times.

I tried this one too https://peanut.iotasalad.org:14265 with the same result (out of sync).

For most nodes in the list I get a message - Node out of sync. For the rest nodes - Error changing node.

For those who are Italian or come for work or live in some neighboring country, mark the meeting to be held in Milan on 3-4 April, with the participation of Dominik Schiener - Co-Founder IOTA Foundation.

A few posts before on this thread page I posted the following:

So you need to import the seed once manually. For further logins you only need your password (chosen while import procedure) that can be copied and pasted.

But to come back to your actual question: your iota should be save.

Iota is doing their best to get more awareness about the blockchain and it helps the Italian people to get more awareness about the project. Which the team is conducting different languages meeting helps to get more awareness about the project.

About Trinity, beautifull wallet.

"They ask straight away for a password. Is there a possibility to put in an already excisting account?
You have to remove the settings file in Windows Explorer"
C:\Users\******\AppData\Roaming\Trinity

I'm having issue to get inside wallet cause of nodes connections, or "the node returned an error while fetching your account information.
If your problem persists, try changing node or disabling your system proxy in Trinity Settings."...

Smiley Disabled proxy and Alleluia i'm in!

To add new account in trinity, does one need a "new" seed?

Thank you Tyz, very nice.
Feeling better today, I was tired and a bit worried (sorry i have not read upper, too many info sources to deal with) & I thought they were gone somehow.
I'm in this list: https://rd-public.s3.amazonaws.com/iota/snapshot_validation_20171023.txt.

I'm getting kind precise help from CrashTestDummy from Discord.
I'm going thru GUI Wallet old wallet, node set to http://nodes.thetangle.org:14265 (should be working) and enter my old seed...

I am not Italian and not live there, so I will wait to get report from IOTA team after the Italian meetup finished.
It is important and promising meet-up, that can have big impacts on general expansion of IOTA community.
More meetup, more ideas collected and it is somehow good for general growth of both IOTA project and IOTA's community.
Generally, in the long run, such meet-up will show their effects on IOTA.
