Just for test purposes i want to try to run miner in solo.

Well I have both TP-Link and Raspberry controllers. Never tried raspberry but TP runs CGminer and mines in pool quite fine for a good time.

I browsed this forum and lots of other articles, still i could not find any noob guide how to solo mine.

What do i need? Do i need a running PC or whatever? Im just trying to understand how it works.

THANK YOU and sorry if there are any threads on this which i could not find.

You could run the setup yourself or you could just mine in a Solo Pool. There are a few benefits, some that might even prove to be more profitable to you in the case you do find a block.

You'll get better block propagation if you find it, and also you get a hashrate report and share being submitted, showing you that your miners are working correctly.

I would recommend you check out ck's solo pool.

Thanks a lot !

At the moment im looking to setup independent solo mining. I mean no solo pools etc etc. Just to try to run absolutely independent.

Yes, you need a PC running the wallet for whatever coin you wish to solo mine. Download that wallet onto a PC and let it sync.

Then you will need to edit the .conf file slightly. I am on my mobile right now or I would copy a .conf file now. I will do so soon. But, get the wallet downloaded and get it downloading the blockchain (aka syncing) because this could taje a long time depending on the coin, number of peers, and ypur connection speed.

May I ask what coin you are going to try soloing? Bitcoin?

what mac?
what is your internet service?

why do you want to be alone for solo?

your chances are less to mine solo alone then to mine in ckpool

in both cases you get the block

ckpool charges .125 btc

your chance of losing the block due to your in house setup are much higher then ckpool's chance of losing a block.

ckpool has hit 112 blocks and has 0 orphans

Yes, i tried to explain that in my first reply, however OP seem to want to do a completely solo independent setup. I respect his enthusiast and i suppose if he is not really trying to hit a block, it does not matter.

However ckpool would probably be better for so many reasons.

he need a solid internet connection

he needs a good mac  lots of ram an ethernet  cable to the net not wireless.

the 2012 mac mini with a quad core and 16 gb ram

an ssd say 500 gb size

2 cloned backups of the ssd--------really 3

macs are good for running a node since cloned back ups will allow you to recover the wallet on the current mac and on an exact same mac.

I run a node on a 2011 mac mini but i don't mine on it I know my clones  work as I boot with 3 different ones 1 time a week and all have the same wallet just out of sync a bit.

which is fine for wallet backup but can not be trusted as much to work for solo mining.

That is wise, to not mine on it, you can for fun, but its more efficient to mine on CK Pool.

It would be much better use of a 1th~ miner, if you want to really do a solo setup for kicks, you should use a Sidehack stick for that or something, the Avalon should be pointed somewhere wiser.

Personally just the upside of having the pool track my hashrate and accepted share is worth the 0.5%~ fee.

yeah if I ever do 'real' solo mining I would look to have a very solid setup in terms of my server.

so the cost of the server and the net connection and the extra power to run it as a dedicated server is far more then the .125 btc fee charged by ck.

as of now ckpool is 114 and 0 meaning no orphans.  If I self mine and lose a block to orphan it would be a real hassle mentally.

Thanks a lot for info Smiley

The thing is that i am not looking to find a block and get some money Smiley I just want to know in depth how to set up a farm and run it
independently without any pools and dependancy on anyone or anything.

Actually it would be good to have a good guide hanging somewhere around the net which could teach people how to become an independent
miner in case there is some money for couple PH's and electricity is well priced.

I mean there is a lot of info how to mine in pools but not really how to be independent. If really, bitcoin can somehow somewhere become
a new currency adopted by governments, there should be well educated people who will keep balance.

I think any miner should have an idea about how to setup independent mine and what is necessary for that. So with this thread im doing my first steps to it Smiley

Thanks anyway.

What i meant is, you should be mining normally with your Avalon and with the return you get from it, you can get something like a USB stick from sidehack for like 0.1BTC and use that to solo mine at minimal losses. Smiley

And again, I did not mean im going to solo mine with 4 TH. I just need to run a test setup on these miners and see if everything works
well. Just to be sure that i know how to solo mine and learn all the tips and tricks of solo mining.

This is why i posted here. Not to discuss is it worth solo mining with 4TH or not, but to find out how to properly solo mine.

And still i cannot find any good guide on how to do that.

Thanks.
