It's really not easy, so easy to start borrowing money and then not being able to pay it back or meet the interest.  If you can avoid this and stop gambling before you owe money you are in a good place.

Bitcoin is probably not the best place at this time for you, might be a good idea to put whatever you have in a wallet and forget about it until you are fully on your feet and can deal with it.  Also as others have said some physical routine will greatly help to distract you.  I wish you luck.

Play poker if you must, you till get the thrill but you can actually learn more about odds and betting.  If you are really losing money and lost control maybe you should see someone to help.

What is my understanding you gamble with Bitcoin on online sites. The best way is to use your funds in Bitcoin somewhere else as you will not have with what to play for a period and then you will get used to stay away from gambling.

I will say it is very difficult to get rid of any addiction especially of drugs and gambling.Whenever you make some money you will try to recover your losses.Better pack up your system for a while and find other activities till you completely forget about gambling.

Forget your losses and move on. Just keep yourself busy, would be best if it would be on something productive like a whole new hobby. If you're not up to it, go hang out with your friends.

Yes keeping ourselves busy is the only way we can get out of any addiction especially from gambling. Concentrating on family members happiness and developing more useful hobbies are the some working ways to make ourselves busy.

Overcoming a gambling addiction or problem is never easy. But recovery is possible if you stick with treatment and seek support.

It's not easy thing to do. But i think one of the reason people do gamble are because they have a lot of spare time. So find yourself in busy activity may work to stay away from gambling. Go get yourself keep busy.

Simple, just keep gambling with fake/game money (no value at all).
So, you can have fun or being addicted without lose any real money Grin

My friends stopped gambling with this way.
But, i think helps from other people is the best way to stop from gambling.

This is a good advice.
When people start to find way to stop gambling, they just too busy to find simple methods to make gambling is really for fun.
Just play it on offline gambling game. You can search it from google.

Start helping people or donating real money to people who really needed help, also can make you forget about gambling. Imagine people who starving and still not eat anything after 1 day. If you can help that people, you will got real happiness not just for fun.

Firstly, to overcome any addiction is not an easy thing to do. The best way I know of is to get a new addiction. Say you can start getting addicted to cookery for example, always looking for recipes in the internet and cooking something new every time.

As someone who has been around gambling their whole life (learned to bet on horses at 5) I do see how it can affect people adversely.

(Me in another thread)
Quote
I do find myself hooked on games; not just gambling but also video games, cards, monopoly, etc. I don't like to loose so will keep at it. My biggest loss in a night was $4000 (AUD) on roulette over 30 minutes ( and no it wasn't on Martingate, just poor decisions ).

So the question I was asking is if you could self-exclude from the online games would you use that feature?

Would you activate a 24 hour / 48 hour / 1 week / permanent ban on yourself from an online game?

From a development point it would be somewhat easy to implement to "user ban" but it wouldn't stop you from signing up another account. There would be ways of identifying you (IP / Browser / etc) and try to enforce your ban for you but someone dedicated will always find a way.

Just curious though if we should be adding this into systems we build.

My friend came up with this awesome script that he loaded onto his router xD

Whenever you open a gambling site that he has saved on the script, it will reroute you to this. Oh, god. The first time I saw it, I nearly shat my pants. I went over to his house for a project, and then I thought it would be funny to gamble some of his Steam items away. Not funny. So not funny.

And me? I just set up a proxy that blocks out all the gambling sites I have saved on my router. I don't have time, nor the balls to see that image again.

You could also bet a few thousand dollars, lose it, then force yourself to go cold turkey, as you don't have any money to gamble with, but I don't recommend it. :-/

No need for ban issue.
If you really want to stay away from gambling. Or want to stop playing gambling.

Simply just imagine you will become poor by your bad habit. If you already lose a lot in gambling, there are no reason to keep losing your money on any bet. Just full stop.

i would block all gambling websites on my pc

but if you know how to unblock it, I am sure you will unblock and play gambling again. you must have other fun activities so you forget about gambling
You can easily use a program to ban it with a password, requiring a password to unlock it. You can entrust the password to another person or just throw it away and forget it.

Nobody can keep you away from doing it, unless you go to an asylum and tell them to lock you away because it's destroying your life.
If you're addicted ask someone to keep an eye on you. You need a wife or a girlfriend to distract you Wink

Have a plan of action if you really want to stop this horrid addiction. First off only have yourself go on to the internet only at certain times of the day that you are less likely to gamble. Have someone setup a password to your router and have change it for you frequently. Next get yourself a hobby to do that is not so destructive but constructive to your life. If you find something you like to do then it will keep your mind occupied so not to think about gambling so much. Lastly have your funds that you usually use to gamble with garnished into a saving account that if you withdraw from will charge you a hefty amount of interest per withdrawal and on top of that will notify your better half when it occurs. They will more than likely beat some sense into you if that does happen.
