Calling it a miner is probably somewhat generous, but I wanted to see if anyone here in the community had one too.  Just got mine today I'm developing a game and plan to use any BTC it generates as rewards for the game (albeit micro faucet-like BTC, but still something).  Plan to set it up later tonight using the guide on their site. Would be interested to see/hear what others are planning to do with it.

Very interesting please share some screenshots of its interface.   I don't think we will be seeing two many of these on here.  Just to dang high.

Will be intresting to read a review of one though.   I still think should be around R1 pricing I'm thinking at price of this device they wanted to prove concept and say they have a released miner without really doing anything in to big of bulk.

That's a great idea, though it may prove a bit onerous. As I understand it, there is a 128Gb MicroSD card as part of the configuration. It could take a while to dump that thing. Supposedly it also contains a copy of the Blockchain on the MicroSD card, so there will be lots to dump.....

That is a genius idea of dumping the firmware.  We have seen amazing things on R1 editing from crazy guy, so the community can do some great things.  That would be amazing if we could play with this on a RPI without 400 for that chip, if we could switch their chip to a compac or something running on its usb.

No, it's not an Sfards chip. 21Inc produces their own ASIC, and that's what's under the black fan shroud. To date 21Inc. hasn't seemed to be interested in producing miners for sale, nor have they expressed any interest in selling their ASIC's The whole premise of the $116M they got from Venture Captial folks was "Internet of Things with built-in SHA-256 hardware". When you read their announcements, they don't seem interested in mining Bitcoins per se. Though when you look into the Blockchain they are certainly collecting their share of BTC rewards.

It's really unclear where exactly this whole adventure goes.

What do you think it costs 21.co to produce that thing? Has to be under $200. Not a bad profit margin.

I didn't have an SDcard reader handy, but I don't think there's any firmware on it. My guess there's an eeprom with the firmware and the sd card has a copy of the blockchain on it. You'll have to bear with me, my linux skills are about 20 years out of date (sadly). Another pics and a couple of screenshots.

It is precisely an Raspberry Pi 2 Model B powering everything. The only thing that 21 actually made was the shield on top which does the mining and the additional custom software to run that miner and do whatever they advertise the thing to do.

Thanks, my experience with mining hardware is more with the antminers, knc, and the like. It will be interesting to see what some owners do with this.  I'm a javascript/c# coder, so the python will be uh interesting for me

to me at 400 bucks go buy a real miner, but that's me and some have said they can build one for around 99 US .

 then again, I'm not a Developer so can't say for sure if that's even a good price for Developers gear .

It's got a couple of things going for it in that it's a full node, it's got a 50gh/s chip on it, and it's all integrated through some API's and runs at 5V @3A.  You get very small amounts of satoshi every few minutes if you mine with it (it looked like ~200 per minute) and when you run through the setup, you get 20,000 satoshi as an "award".  From a developers standpoint, it reminds me of one of those development reference boards as a test kit. Whether it's worth the $400 or not I think is more of a question of what does it do for you as an individual that you don't want to spend the time to hack together a similar solution. You've asked a great question because if you buy this as a miner, it's not worth it as an investment. However, if you buy it with the intent of using it to do some development projects, I think it's a good starter kit and closer in value.

I think the price kills it from  being anything usefull as far as device.  I think they did it to prove they have chips and as prototype.  As far as chips compare this to traditional big miner.... a LOT less chips are used and they get to say they have a product now.  But it's going to be a massive profit for them on any sell.

I have not read anything yet to get me to spend the 400 on it.  I think they could have done better.  I mean to be the company that talks about having mining chips in other things... then comes out with a RPI with top is not all that impressive to me.
