If the government does not approve coins with blockchain-based private transactions, PIVX is still in the clear as it currently has a transparent option. Also, the use case of PIVX (or any other cryptocurrency) doesn't just lie in spending it as a form of payment. It can also be utilized as a private store of wealth and be used as a private gateway to another supported cryptocurrency for payment if need be. The potential of being able to simply maintain balance & transaction privacy while owning PIVX creates its value IMO.

I think right now everyone is having the same issue -  I have 500 zPIV that I can't access - very inconvenient. It looks like the next release is supposed to fix this.

Yes, you are right we need to wait until we see some development release from the team because maybe they are updating something in the background and sooner we might see wallet issues will be resolved? We need to wait until we see some progress from them.

My wallet is no longer syncing. Its stuck on 1745479 (7 weeks ago). Already tried to resync the entire chain wich took several days and now its stuck again at the same block. I have 16 active connections and about half of them are 3.2.0 wallets (im on 3.2.2). Any suggestions?

If we look at the chart on CMC you can see we are at a low point now. Can it get even lower? Ofcourse but why would you risk losing out on a low entry price or is your strategy to buy high and sell low?

Following latest update from core development team was posted today on PIVX Discord:

Our 3.3.0 testnet testing is coming to a close! We've had over a week's time to allow for testers to participate in the spending of testnet zPIV and to give feedback. Thus far, all the feedback we have received has been positive, and neither ourselves or any tester has found any issues with the spending of testnet zPIV.

We will be moving forward with the release of 3.3.0 shortly after the upcoming budget superblock, which is currently scheduled to occur on or around June 16th. We decided to goto release after the superblock so as to avoid any potential miscounts in votes due to MNs being restarted, which will be required due to the protocol update. And, just so everyone is aware well in advance, 3.3.0 will be a mandatory update. We will be giving the standard ~7 days update window, with zPIV spending capabilities being restored between June 25 and June 28.

It is important to note that v1 zPIV, which was announced as deprecated on May 1, 2018, and new v1 mints being disallowed on May 8, 2018, will NOT be spendable in the initial 3.3.0 release. We are not abandoning those with v1 zPIV, not by any means, but in order to allow for the majority of zPIV to be spent (which is v2 zPIV) sooner rather than later, a decision needed to be made to exclude v1 zPIV for the time being. v1 zPIV spending will be restored in a future update.

Simplified:
1. New 3.3.0 wallet is expected to be released around 16-17th of June.
2. All users need to upgrade. Fork will happen 7 days after its release.
3. It will allow spending any zPIV that people have back to PIV.

Major PIVX core wallet v3.3.0 has been released with some significant changes in zPIV front.
This is a MANDATORY upgrade so all previous wallet users will need to upgrade asap.
Wallet update enforcement will kick in at approx. June 24th at 11:59pm GMT.

The zPIV is zPIV regardless of what version.  The wallet is what updates your zPIV from v1 to v2. Newer wallet is v2:
"Note on version 1 zPIV: Version 1 zPIV was only available to me minted between versions v3.0.0 (Oct 6, 2017) and v3.1.0 (May 8, 2018). The announcement that version 1 zPIV was deprecated went out on May 1, 2018 with a recommendation for users to spend/convert their version 1 zPIV."
