Charity Raffle
Opportunity International: Giving the poor a working chance

I'm sure all of you know me by now, I've run three raffles so far and over $2000 worth of products have been won via those raffles, and I also run a Bitcoin hosting company. Tenakha is a known money lender and does BTC -> GBP exchange in the UK, with a history of good feedback.

As I'm aware, a lot of you (like me) believe passionately in the ability of free people to better their lot in life via market mechanics, so we're going to be donating the profits to Opportunity International, a charity which provides a hand-up rather than a hand-out to hard-working people in some of the world's poorest countries. Opportunity International provides access to savings, small business loans, insurance and training to more than four million people working their way out of poverty in the developing world. Clients in over 20 countries use these financial services to start or expand a business, provide for their families, create jobs for their neighbors and build a safety net for the future.

A few facts about the charity:
- 1.26 million people have microloans from Opportunity.
- The average first loan is around $250.
- 84% of its beneficiaries are women, who make up 70% of those living on $2 a day or less.
- 96% of beneficiaries pay back their micro-loans, meaning that the money can be used to help somebody else.
- Most work is in Malawi, Mozambique, Tanzania and Ghana.

As you can see, this is a real mission to allow free enterprise to lift people out of poverty in developing countries. Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day, give him a fishing rod and he can feed his family for life.

Because of the Aid Match programme in the UK, we have chosen to donate to the UK branch of the organization rather than the US branch. Tenakha has kindly agreed to process the donation as he is a UK taxpayer and thus eligible for the programme.

This means that for every 1 GBP we raise, the UK government will match the donation. This will be funded directly from the International Aid budget, much of which would otherwise end up in the hands of despots or countries with space programmes. The goal of this raffle is to raise 64 BTC for charity, which will be doubled to 128 BTC or around $4000 (at today's rate).

Aid Match Programme has now closed, the entire donation will be 64 BTC.

There will be 256 tickets, each of which will cost 0.5 BTC, for a total intake of 128 BTC.

To buy a ticket, PM Luceo with the subject 'Charity Raffle', the number of tickets you would like, and a BTC address for us to send any winnings to.

The prizes will be as follows:
1st: 33 BTC
2nd: 21 BTC
3rd: 10 BTC

Total Intake: 128 BTC

Total Prizes: 64 BTC
Charitable Donation: 64 BTC (x2 because of Aid Match) = 64 BTC

Determining the Winner:
- The hash of the first block generated and relayed after 0:00 UTC the day after the last ticket is sold will determine the winners.
- The final two characters of the hash of the aforementioned block will determine the first place winner, who will receive 33 BTC.
- The next two characters from the end of the hash of the aforementioned block will determine the second place winner, who will receive 21 BTC.
- The next two characters from the end of the hash of the aforementioned block will determine the third place winner, who will receive 10 BTC.

An example:
0000000000000166c6987cfd687b0777bd6800a798db1f31b3cab74528bacf43

First place winner would be ticket 43. Second place would be ticket cf. Third place would be ticket ba.

Tickets: 20 sold, 236 remaining

Edit: Great idea from DutchBrat. If you'd like to pledge your winnings to Opportunity International, please use 15ruUNKaqZrDm6v8tzgGgs41bwKRLxMJJi as your payout address. I will mark pledged tickets in green.

Please give generously, and thanks for your support Bitcoin community.

Declarations
I will hold all funds in cold storage until the end of the raffle, I will then pay out the prizes and deposit 64 BTC to Tenakha (15ruUNKaqZrDm6v8tzgGgs41bwKRLxMJJi).
Tenakha will sell the 64 BTC at spot price in the UK and donate the proceeds to Opportunity International via Aid Match, providing a receipt of some kind.
I will not be profiting from this raffle.
Tenakha will not be profiting from this raffle.
Neither of us are affiliated in any way with Opportunity International. I have previously donated to the organization once, never to the UK branch.
If Aid Match ends before the draw, we will NOT be matching the donation, it will just be 64 BTC. - This is now the case.

EDIT: Refunds Policy
As sales are slow, I'm allowing any user to request a refund to be processed within 60 days (All my remaining Bitcoins are in cold storage as I'm short on BTC in the short term). In order to request a refund, please sign a message with the address you used to deposit Bitcoins to the raffle, or with your payout address, requesting a refund to that address. If you'd like to donate the Bitcoin to Opportunity International, or split between that and a refund, please sign a message to this effect with the address you used to deposit.
Note: If sales pick up, I reserve the right to cancel this refunds policy with a 7 day warning (i.e. you will have a 7-day window to request a refund from when I announce the cancellation).

C'mon guys, let's get these moving!

You are probably a good guy and mean well. I am NOT saying, that you are scammer. I see you like to do something good but I think you are wasting your time and other peoples coin.
Charities are scams and never really help the proposed target. Most of the money is wasted on keeping the charity machine running and captains well paid and with healthy account balances. It's a business and really ugly one.
Charities and all sorts of "protection" and "rights" organisations/services/etc are the worst. Their business plans require spreading of FUD ( Fear, uncertainty and doubt). More fear and bullshit they spread, more money they can get and only loser in this ugly game is the "protected" one (and fools who support that racket).
This is not the way to help people who need helping - all you do is make some greedy sociopath in this "charity" scam a bit richer.

Do not take it personally.

Cheers

Hey EskimoBob,

I know a lot of charities do end up paying a lot into the pockets of beneficiaries who aren't the ones you'd expect (usually lobbying groups), but OI is very transparent about its figures and I've checked them out.

They are also endorsed by (amongst others): Bill Gates, Bill Clinton, Princess Anne, the First Lady of Uganda and HP.
