"This monster card is listed as having 5.1 billion transistors (between the two GPUs), 5,210 stream processors 5120SP and 160 texture units per core. The 8990 is also listed as having 48 ROPs per core and a pair of 384-bit buses. Memory is expected to be anywhere in the range of 6GB to 12GB and should be clocked from the factory at 1,250MHz. Each GPU will ship running at 950MHz, according to the roadmap."

5120 stream processors... little too late to the game, but that would been fun to mine & game with.

Would love to get a 8990 if my moola was not tied up with those BFL + bASIC orders.  Wink

I believe if you have a certain amount of funds transferred via Dwolla, that will be reported to the IRS (As Paypal transactions over a certain $ or qty are).

Nice thing is my accountant handles it.

But that's only on coins sold for US currency.

What a weirdly random reply.

Well as for the 8990, it says that it is expected to release 2nd quarter of 2013, and cost > $1000, unless something truly cataclysmic happens to ASICs, doesn't look like it'll come out before ASICs, and if it did somehow you'll see one hell of a long time to pay off that bad boy by mining. Though it looks like it might be able to pull off 2GH/s? That woulda been fun back in the day Wink

Won't use it for BTC mining, but possibly LTC mining.

Oh, and gaming... definitely gaming. Lots and lots of gaming (@ 5400x1920)

I believe anything over $1000 in one shot is, that's what I'm told. And when you sell over 200 items, and $20,000 worth its also reported.

Reference is pretty much canceled. TDP is supposedly too high for AMD to comfortably work with. Let the OEM's worry about it they say. A couple "7990"s have already come out from powercolor and asus.

This weekend I upgraded to Win8, but was having problems with 12.10 and the AMD Vision Engine Control Center. The only way I could figure out how to fix it was to upgrade to the 12.11 beta.

In that beta, I noticed that it contains drivers for Radeon HD 8800 and 8900 cards. I actually have 2 copies of each driver, so I'm wondering if 12.10 had them as well. Either way, I thought it was interesting.

Tips? 1crazy8pMqgwJ7tX7ZPZmyPwFbc6xZKM9

Yeh, I remember when those were called 7970 X2s and were supposed to launch after the reference 7990. I wonder if the 8990 will end up being 8970 X2s launched next September?

My solution with my 2x6950, now that they would cost me money to mine, is to transfer one to my kids computer so they can play minecraft faster/higher rez Cheesy
(and save the other for when I feel the urge to use vanitygen)
Though I guess Minecraft does require a little more GPU power than Minesweeper Tongue
