Thanks for the input fellas, you all make valid points. My thinking was simply that we already have ASICs on the way and still have ample reserves. There's just nothing to spend them on ATM that makes sense long term. I suggested a relatively small fixed dividend amount so as to stabilize our yield without significantly reducing our reserves...about .04BTC/day currently. Seems the concept is less popular than I'd have guessed.

Like I said before, I think more hashes is more valuable. I would rather keep the coins and get something better later. For example, 424 BTC (@ $80) is more than enough to buy a BFL Mini-Rig... 1.5TH/s.  Who knows if BFL will ever deliver, but Avalon or even Asciminer might pick up the slack on something like this.

This has always been my model for our company. We tack on ASIC hashing power via pre-orders when it makes sense while building our reserves for large purchase(s) when time to delivery is reduced and with it the risk of the unknown. If I had any confidence at all that BFL could deliver even two 750Gh "little" minirig SCs in a reasonable time frame I'd consider it an option, but it sounds like they're having inconsistent chip results. In retrospect a larger batch 2 Avalon order would have been justified, but that was anything but clear at the time.

If Avalon is able to begin shipping in just a few weeks time then we could potentially have an ASIC hashing for us next month. Thanks for the input gents.

I'm all up for looking for good deals for GPUs, as LTC is getting a good value at the moment which can do good for dividends rather than spending from the reserves.
At the current difficulty you can easily increase the daily dividends by 0.05BTC/day per GPU assuming you are getting 7950. GPUs will still be decent even after ASIC delivery as LTC is gaining value now. So I'm all for GPUs rather than pay divs from treasury Smiley

I know you do not like to manage more GPUs than what you've already have, but the return would be better than spending from treasury Smiley

Keep up the good work creativex   Wink

Umm... Shocked

All GPUs are mining LTC @ kattare.com. That's one way to boost our dividends.

Fortunately real work is beginning to lighten up a bit, so I should be able to devote more time to our mining company going forward. I'm in the early planning stages of designing and installing 220/240v infrastructure for our coming Avalons. I survived one year of trade school instruction in industrial electricity so the wiring should be pretty straightforward despite my rustiness. Smiley

I have one of these UPS units in mind for our initial infrastructure:

http://www.amazon.com/CyberPower-PR5000LCDRTXL5U-Smart-Sinewave-5000VA/dp/B003N6WF2O/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1365088347&sr=8-1&keywords=PR5000LCDRTXL5U

SNMP/HTTP, 5U Rack/Tower, 5 Outlets
Extended runtime capable with optional BPL48V75ART2U Battery Packs
5000VA / 4000 Watts - Green Power UPS
HTTP, 5U Rack/Tower, 5 Outlets

Technical Details
Brand Name: CyberPower

Item Height: 8.75 inches
Item Length: 24.25 inches
Item Width: 17 inches

Product Details
Product Dimensions: 24.2 x 17 x 8.8 inches ; 222 pounds

I chose these because they seem to be well built and well received. It's also one of few suitable units sold by bitcoinstore:

https://www.bitcoinstore.com/cyberpower-smart-app-sinewave-pr5000lcdrtxl5u-5000-va-rack-mountable-ups.html

...and at a great price too. Smiley (((bitcoinstore)))

I'm no expert on UPS's anyone got any input before I pull the trigger?

Xincom twin wan router ordered for failover. I've currently only one reliable ISP, shopping for a second before our Avalons go live. A single point of failure will not be allowed to halt our Bitcoin production if it's avoidable.

Yep, took awhile, but Tom eventually came through.

The move in Litecoin has been fantastic, definitely worth the extra work to setup.

Avalon has requested that trade-in FPGAs be shipped to them. While we have none of these, this is a sign that they're preparing to ship batch 2 orders.

looks like there are a number of new asic opportunities starting or on their way, including asicminer eruptors and avalon naked chips.  Any thought as to how to start putting our capital reserve to work?  We have what, 600 BTC waiting for an opportunity?

Always looking for opportunities to increase our hashes. I closely monitored the first ASICMiner auction, but the price went right off the charts. If we didn't have a couple Avalon orders it may have made sense to take a shot at one or more of the erupter blades, even at such a high cost/Gh.

At this point I'm still not 100% certain how many expansion slots we'll have available on our b2 Avalon unit, but likely one, so that seems like a no brainer when available. Avalon recently changed their website to indicate expansion modules would be available soon. Since the recent case pic Avalon showed off for b2 Avalons appeared to be the same dimensions as the b1 case I'm expecting only one expansion slot, but wouldn't mind being surprised.

The chip projects are interesting but will still have significant lead time and are unlikely to improve upon Avalon efficiency much if at all. By the time someone gets their chips and gets a finished product together there may be better options available so committing to such a project doesn't make a whole bunch of sense at this point. There's always the possibility that someone strapped for cash could offer up their b1 or b2 Avalon at a reasonable price and the number of buyers with enough liquid capital to pounce at any given time is likely fairly small...relatively speaking.

Always open to suggestions, if anyone sees anything that they believe is a decent opportunity, please feel free to PM or email me.

Hot off the presses from Avalon:

Bitcoin will change your life.    online version • update profile • unsubscribe

Avalon ASIC    ASICs on time; Business done right.

Dear creativex@broadstripe.net,

Lots things to update.

1. We are currently investigating on the three or so shipments that have shown up badly damaged to the customers. They do no appear to be simple delivery damage: they are not dents but some corners of some of the units have been snapped off. It takes a great amount of force to snap 3mm aluminum that's been bolted down with 0.9mm screws in a box with foam padding. We are not ruling out the possibility of sabotage.

In future, when receiving an Avalon package, if there is any rattling sound coming from inside, open the package in front of DHL/EMS and inspect the inside, if there is damage immediately return the package to the sender. The receiver must submit the complaint so us, the shipper can receive this information from DHL/EMS and we can investigate.

Do not worry, even if DHL/EMS does not compensate for the damages, once you send the damaged unit back, we will send you a replacement free of charge.

2. Our new SMT equipment has arrived, it is expected to be tweaked and fully functional by the second week of May. Expect an updated gallery of our facility soon. In the mean time we are going to send out ~20 units through our new shipping channels and test the waters. We expect to go full throttle once the new SMT line comes online.

3. We also recently released a new firmware that is our most stabled version yet, it also increases the performance by about 2Gh/s and lowers idle power consumption, see the wiki for full details. https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Avalon#20130419

p.s. few people in the Avalon team is sick, so we are moving rather slow at the moment.
