Just received my order. Camolist kept me up-to-date the whole way through and let me know that he was about to update his prices so I didn't have to pay the old prices. Also good about using GPG with personal info.
Great communication and great seller. Smiley

These look really cool. I question the security of them though. Most people will likely hold onto these for a long time. Theoretically couldn't a seller write down all of the hidden keys and cash them in at some point making the coins worthless?

Currently there is no way to make a physical btc without someone putting the private key inside. However these are put together by Casascius. He is a well known and trusted member on these forums. He has made a heck of a lot of them. Check out www.casascius.com for more info.

I mean there could be an automated way TBH, it would not be that difficult to make it either.

However, on that note. I have actually gotten a few premade paper btc's, like bought them, I know I know. but I will say I never had a problem. It is essentially, to me at least, makes me wonder why would someone do that. Especially when there is SOOOO much more business to be had?

It is quite a foolish thing to do IMO. If you need a quick dollar, rob a vending machine, at least you know that will always be there. Hahah.

The newer brass seem to grade pretty low  Embarrassed  My guess is a possible MS-67, but most likely a couple 66's.  Offer being sent shortly...!

considering a "group buy" for the rolls where buyers would give an up front deposit (say 0.05 BTC) and a return address

set a time a few months in the future as an end date OR when say >=75% of the coins have a deposit on them to open the roll

give everyone with a deposit a month to pay the full amount or lose their deposit

it's one way i see to sell individual coins without breaking a roll just to sell a few coins

So you're selling the coins individually? If I wanted five I could get five?...for the right price of course.

Hello Wink

Thanks for the update.

Just wondering: why this coin has been funded twice?

https://blockchain.info/fr/address/12CDrJVn55VrCe7fByxGXpyNoYsfuQkdxd

Also, why did you decide to break two rolls (out of the four)? According to your rates,
it would have been more interested for you to sell the four rolls intact. Did i miss
something?

Still interested though.

Can you please provide me your bitcoin address in order to book the coins. Thanks Wink

looks like someone sent "satoshi's" ie  0.00000001 BTC to some of these coins

honestly no idea why that is done but I have often gotten micro deposits to addresses that i have coins on

i would love to sell the rolls intact (think of how much less work that would be!!) but the market of people with 45-70 BTC to spend is much smaller then the market of people willing to spend 0.8-1.3 and up

i'll be messaging to find out which coins you are looking to reserve and if you want to use escrow or direct

Hello,

when deposits are held for 40 or more in a roll the roll will be opened and coins moved to individual coin cases by gloved hands

users with a deposit will then have 1 month to complete their payment either to escrow or direct and provide shipping details or their deposit will be forfeited unless a replacement buyer can be located

So if i understand well, it is impossible to get a picture of the coins before buying Sad

thanks! i've you got you on my local spreadsheet i will update the first posts list (with many details striped from my spreadsheet) later in the day

Hello,
So if i understand well, it is impossible to get a picture of the coins before buying Sad

the first post of the thread has two pdf files that casascius signed that image all 50 coins per roll just before he sealed them - i intend to open the rolls and move them to individual coin cases by gloved hands when they are ready to ship so the coins will be as they left casascius

i would not ship a coin that differed from what is visible in those pictures

Does anyone know if there is any VAT/additional costs with shipping to the Netherlands?

I ship from the US so anyone elsewhere i will have to fill out customs forms

the custom forms ask for a description and USD value

I've always written the USD value of the BTC charged over face value minus shipping cost

so in this case 0.3 BTC * ~$250 USD = ~$75 - the shipping cost

and brass collectable coin as the contents

have never had trouble but I am unsure about any extra costs you will have to take the above and research your individual country

Just wanting to make some things clear:

1. I sent the 0.1 BTC to you, which means I am on the list.
2. We wait until 40 people are on the list.
3. You open the roll and ask everyone to pay the additional 1.2 BTC (to an escrow)
4. You ship the coins to my address that I'll PM you.
5. When I received the coin, I tell the escrow that he can release the BTC to you.

Is that right?
Another question: if I decide that I don't want to buy the coin anymore; will you send my 0.1 back?

it's all correct

the 0.1 can also be held at escrow if you would like.

the 0.1 deposit can be refunded at any time prior to the rolls being opened when 40 coins are sold

There's a thought that Casascius coins are most valuable when they have ONLY the original BTC1 from Mike funded on the coin. People will send 1 satoshi to random coins in an effort to "vandalize" the coin or devalue that specific coin. I think peopled do it out of jealousy. This is just a theory, I've never seen this characteristic impact or prevent a sale.

Thanks for the detail, love the system except for one detail...

What if you never get 40 coins reserved? Will I ever get the coins I reserve with the deposit (hypothetically)? I'm putting money at risk on an order that I never know will be fulfilled.

Also, what does the "any" designation mean? Is that a reservation where someone has not specifically requested a specific coin in the roll?

Thanks.

any point until 40 are reserved and i open the rolls your deposit can be returned "at any point up until 40 in the roll have deposits made for them you may request a refund of your deposit and the spot will be opened up to another potential buyer" from the first post

exactly that. i have deposits held for those coins but have not received any specific coin request and will just send a random coin unless they send a list of requests

Have to post to bookmark this thread & watch the progress of the 40 coin rolls getting reserved/sold.
Somewhat sadly, I believe I have physical crypto coins by every other maker except the first and undisputed King of physical Bitcoins, Casascius. I will most likely be making a deposit on a coin soon and working on changing that.  Cool

Sounds like a grand plan! Owning a Casascius will legitimize your ownership of physical bitcoins. There's only one!

i'm going to be moving the 1 bitcoin worth of deposits i hold directly from my amory wallet to my trezor a little bit later today. incase anyone is monitoring and wondering about the change of balance on their deposit address

i'm thinking of setting a cut off date (say a month in the future) where i will open the rolls regardless of sale count

anyone without a reservation in by then would end up paying a slightly higher cost

so get those reservations in  Tongue

going to make the cut off date april 1st so that still gives a month till may for payments and shipping before i'll be traveling

so the complete month of march and a few odd days this month

anyone without a preorder will have to pay a slight premium (not decided yet) after april 1st and it will be unlikely i'll have the coins in my immediate possession after mid may

Two questions: 1 - are you firm on your pricing? and 2 - your cutoff date is April 1, does this mean that anyone who has secured a preorder spot by that time should expect to receive their coins shorty after that time even if enough coins are not reserved by then?

price is set. at this time i'm content to keep the coins instead of accepting anything lower

I am relaxing the minimal sales requirement (need to update the first post wording)
the rolls will be opened april 1st regardless of sale count
made the decision because i still have the other two sealed rolls and i know the demand is here for these coins (just slow moving and i think the coins being ready for immediate shipment would help this)

what I am going to do is keep accepting deposits of 0.1 BTC per coin up until april 1st which would guarantee you in at the 1.3 and 0.8 btc rates. after then the price will likely go up slightly as an advantage to those that went through the original deposit process

I sent you a PM regarding accepting tomatocage as escrow as well as my ability to switch which roll I buy from. I am on the fence if I want to buy two .5 BTC coins or one .5 BTC coin and one 1 BTC coin.

You should post this in the auction sub forum as this post can be deleted should someone take control of your account.
Posts in the auctions sub can't be edited or deleted by the user.

What if it gets moved to a different board then edited then moved back?

Can you move a thread from the auction sub to another category?

Yes. And doing so will not necessarily notify anyone watching.

just want to point this previous post out as there seems to of been some confusion on a previous order

please be aware of your countries import taxes.

i feel marking them as valued at the sales price above face value is a fair assessment

from usps.gov by law the usps requires customs forms except for envelopes that meet the following

"The envelope must:

Be less than 3/4 inch thick
Weigh less than 16 oz
Contain only documents or letters"

i will not risk the coins being seized in customs by saying the package only contains documents and letters and i use varying packing methods but packages are often over 3/4ths of an inch thick just from padding

I'm interested in buying one.

If you just send it as normal mail, declare 20 dollar and state "sample" no-one will have to pay taxes. Also you're a private person, but you sell as a business, that's the problem... it's not gold or silver, it's brass....

Exactly, if a choice was given sadly not. Also you all forget the fact that this has tax advantages for the seller, yet the buyer must feel the consequence... it's really not neccesary, I can only speak for the Netherlands, just recieved about 100 dollars in retro games from usa, not a penny.... And then last, it was never stated.... If a private person had send it, I would never had to pay 40 euro´s.

Also the fact that he knew that he would do it this way, which made it certain that I would have to pay VAT, he could have least be upfront about it and left me a choice, I would´ve waited for a seller in the EU then... Even a seller in the USA who send it as a private person would be a option, but not this...

And all the law abiding citizin´s here Smiley, bet you all register every single bitcoin you have to the state and pay taxes on them, o no, no-one does that  Roll Eyes Bitcoin is one big gray area, so I don't understand he chose the least preferrable way to send it Sad

Furio you wanted to go through escrow..tell me..if the "letters" got seized how quickly would you run to escrow blaming me for the shipping lies?

i am not sending "samples" i am not sending documents so what non lie goes on the customs form?

i am running under a registered llc / business so i am well known and not wanting to be out there as breaking shipping laws..

i was asked (from someone from your exact country) how i ship and i explained it as a reply (in january)

only way i would even begin to consider this is if paid up front in btc and you agreeing that my liability ended there. i said it got shipped it got shipped no debate and the deal is then between usps and your countries customs and mail delivery and you

also if this was that huge of a problem i imagine your post has a refuse shipment option that would return to sender? but no you paid the tax then come complaining when i am just following the law, and what i said in a reply in this thread in january that i would do - then come straight to me wanting the btc taken off the sale price

I wanted to go through escrow!? You made a deal with PB to be the escrow for all sales, I never requested anything.... But you're right, allways escrow, yet you were the one doing it, not me Smiley

Nobody knows wtf it is, bitcoin is one big grey area, again you come with law, bet all your bitcoin are registrered and taxed Wink Law is relative, if they don't know what it is, they don't, 50 dollar would have been believable, but you never gave any info or options directly to me in ALL your messages.

I understand that IF you send it as a business, you want to abide by the law, yet you never stated that you send it as a business, I was dealing with a private person and that is exactly my point. Hope you take from this that it's allways prefferable to disclose all information, eventhough you've stated it before, you just changed your OP recently and made a new posts about VAT after our dispute, which also says alot.

I was very pleased with your communication, that was exactly the reason I was thicked off, you send me sooo much messages, yet never any word about something you were gonna do for sure,  yet had negative consequences for me...

Your right, it was stupid to accept the mail, but I was sure we could split it 50/50, since you never disclosed it to me. Just be thankfull you live in the USA, under Dutch law you had the pay the full €40 to me, since you didn't diclose it in communication to me or referred to it. Under Dutch law that's a violation, under USA law not so much Smiley

Eventhough PB stated to me that he didn't find it very friendly to not disclose this info directly to me, under USA law it's not prohibited... O, well lesson learnt, never again from the usa, hate extra taxes Smiley We pay MORE than enough over here Wink

Lastly, you've implied that I would give problems once it didn't arrive. Offcourse I would if we didn't speak about it, but IF you gave me the option, which would be the situation in your event described above, and would state at own risk, I'm a man of principles, you can ask that to PB, I would never gave troubles if we had discussed it an made an agreement, don't state things you don't know Smiley I'm really not that kind of person Smiley

The fact that you imply this to me, is the same that I say that you didn't disclose it, because you knew that meant no deal, I cannot know your motivation, maybe you geniually forget to tell it, or thought it was obvious I had to pay taxes.. eitherway, you should have told it to me in my view and under Dutch Law Smiley

Unless I'm mistaken, the take-away here is that one should always be aware of their country's import regulations when purchasing products from international sellers.

that's fine by me. your btc is still in escrow (he told me to send an address to get the bitcoin but i held off knowing this likely wasn't over  Roll Eyes )

i have not updated the OP about shipping have i Huh at least not yet last edit was on the 17th and it says nothing about customs - i was asked in january and replied in a non edited post about how i would do it though (never made it to the OP but that user at least thought to ask/research their countries customs handling and my response has been in the thread ever since)

i sell bitcoin by coinbase...it would be foolish to not report something sold through there as i guarantee they report transactions

the OP has said (from the start) either bitcoin held in escrow OR direct with me - you say here escrow was my idea but here is copy-pasted from your very first message contacting me "Allmost got scammed hahahaha, but not really, because I only use trusted escrows Smiley"

not sure what this deal about a "business" is - i sent the mail from my name "steven ruman" and sent it as "merchandise" other customs form options are dangerous goods, documents, commercial samples, humanitarian goods, or gift. NONE other apply to a sale other than merch

filled out exactly as per my january post https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=131828.msg10304993#msg10304993

you bring up yet again that i updated and or posted after the fact about VAT ? i posted in JANUARY in an NON edited post exactly the method i would use to ship

Hi,

After consulting with customs over here I've decided to send the shipment return to sender. It's not just the €40,70, it's your (lack of) reaction on this. You've changed the OP and made a new posts about VAT, yet you claim I should have known.

Your reasoning in this is something I can't accept, because I had posted in your thread, I therefore read all the messages!? This made me decide to return to sender, this high and mighty attitude, while you DID change the OP after this, nausiates me.

I geniually didn't know, and you hiding behind law, while you most definetely haven't payed taxes on all YOUR bitcoin is hypocritical, you obey law when it serves you....

The last fact, in all your messages not a word, forces me to this decision.

Grtz,

Furio

I can confirm that this is definetly not in the Dutch law, every person here is and should be aware that purchasing anything outside the EU will come with additional costs due to customs, the seller does not specifically have to mention this at all..

(Unless seller mentions that VAT is included, which means you propably paid both US and EU VAT and gives you the right to claim back one of them)

The only thing you could try is to negotiate with the seller to declare a lower value, but his comes with great risks for the seller if customs find out about this. (I have done this before with sellers from US and China, but it is not common)

Just wanting to make sure:
What value are you going to write down? Only the .3 BTC in USD, or 1.3 BTC in USD?
I most likely have to pay 21%, and I don't want to pay 21% over the BTC I already own.

I just received my two coins today. I am very happy with the trade and think that camolist was very pleasant to work with.

Bought 4 coins from camolist without escrow and they arrived today.  Coins are perfect and camolist was easy to deal with and followed the package until I received it.  Would do business with him again.

I bought a few coins in this deal.  No escrow, I sent first.  Great communication, packaging, and a few little extras.

Truly a pleasure to buy from.

I don't know what happened to the other packages, but the USPS site tells me that the package has been send to malaysia.
I live in the Netherlands and it arrived already 10 days ago in Amsterdam (I thought the customs needed to take a look at it).

No one else has this problem?

casascius pgp message of the coin sale to me http://pastebin.com/raw.php?i=qqzdCRi5

two sealed rolls (one 1.0x50 and one 0.5x50) funded 2014-01-14

I'm confused, you say these coins were funded in 2014. However, if you run the address through Mike Caldwell's bitcoin analyzer (http://casascius.uberbills.com/?address=1Ag5nrWbDA8kUa2EQcunFQRinLRZCwmhqY) you'll find that the coin for the address below was funded in December 2013.

12CLkbmHZetEdAAcRuhAT7nLancBAMsjHr

that pgp message contains the coins from both the (still) sealed rolls and the ex sealed rolls that are now open/being sold off individually

check some other coins like http://casascius.uberbills.com/?address=13Ms4Sx3nW4QwMyjzbus6V8Yj2udr91CnV for example

the rolls that have been opened were funded dec 2013 the still sealed rolls were funded jan 2014

The last time he posted in this thread was 15 months ago, the last time he posted at all was 7 months ago, and the last time he logged in was one month ago.

I will let you do the math!

The way that the secondary casascious market has been over the past 18 months, this is not as great of a deal as it used to be anyway.

I question this based on my experience with camos fresh off the roll coins.  The brass I got from him was the best casascius brass I have seen.  No scratches at all and perfect holos.

Should mention I bought them when the bitcoin price was much lower and I still would buy at 1.3 or .8 for same quality today.  I'm a wage slave so I measure everything in fiat. Sad

Sad

MS69 on a 0.5 brass from him here. So yeah, you are correct!  Cool

Pics or it didn't happen. Tongue

I am not saying that the coins that he is selling are not very nice in many ways, I am just saying that premiums for cas coins have fallen enough to buy a decently graded similar coin for not much more then his asking price. Or you could roll the dice and buy from another seller (probably for a cheaper price) and get a nice grade, especially with how ANACS has been grading recently.

Thanks and for the record, I fully agree with hellot on that, as I guess I think like them. Cheers. Camolist coins are definitely some of the finest graded coins, wish I had bought many more now, as it was very cheap in fiat at the time. Grin

I wouldn't trust the grade because it depends on when it was graded.   My point was that camolist got some sweet rolls and handled them professionally.  If I could buy off these same rolls, I would have no reservations because I have seen the product.

I would buy these at 1.3 now, as I did when they were offered.

Beautiful coins and all mine graded very well for brass.

Great to see that it still possible to grab some of these nice old coins at a reasonable price.
Good luck with the sales camo Smiley

I bought a few of these when they first went on sale - I had them all graded and they did very well - all 67's and 68's which is good for brass, in my opinion.  Buy with confidence, these are nice coins.

This is also the last place I know of where you can still get sealed rolls.  Sort of amazing they're still available.

pretty sure that sale would only happen in person at the bank...with the buyer having an armored truck to leave with them lol

--edit---

from usps "For shipments that are valued at over $5,000, you can instead choose Registered Mail, which will give you up to $25,000 in coverage."

so registered mail is out for the rolls will have to look into alternatives

trying to get a claim for any of these items would be a nightmare.....

Agreed. It helps if there's a reputable online storefront you can point to for a backup on retail pricing and having an invoice specifying the details will sometime be enough, but don't expect postal insurance to be a savior. Those 3rd party claim processors are no cakewalk.

Byteball only has a future value of 0.065GB/BTC (~$20) during each full moon airdrop. There's no current/stored value on Cas coins

you have to sign a message for byteball so you'd have to crack open the coin.

and it's now no longer worth bothering with.

the bcash thing though does make life a little complicated for casascius owners, or rather buyers.

that's more than what some coins have been fetching for sale. i wonder if it'll raise the prices concurrently and keep whatever premium there is on top intact.

honestly if you don't want to see cas coins "peeled" you might want to get them back to the "original" owners Wink

I have a 0.5 2013 brass coin and looking to sell it. Does anyone have an idea where to do that? I tried ebay but PayPal canceled my transaction

Right here in this very section. Ebay probably did you a favour there as the chances of being scammed with prices this high must be horrific.

Start a thread here. Put some photos up with your username next to the coin. Only do a sale with an escrow. You may achieve less here than Ebay but at least there's a much better chance of not being raped.

It'll probably be a BTC only sale on here but there are countless options for selling raw BTC available elsewhere if you need to end up with fiat.

You can create a thread just like this and post the complete details of your coin as well as provide a link to the updated picture of your coin. Why you bump this very old thread?? And also, I want to know your location and send the picture of your coin. I'm buying loaded casascius coin.
You can use also escrow/middleman for the safety of our transaction. I will be waiting on your PM and no need to bump this oldy thread. Thanks
