At least they gave back the altcoins. Which are always worth quite a lot money.

But yes, someone or something should bring them to justice.

Yeah, this is very suspect...declaring insolvency and preferring some customers (those with alts) over other customers (those with BTC). This is also quite illegal. Does he need a powershovel to dig himself a bigger hole with the authorities?

How is this illegal?

You can't just shut down an exchange then choose to disperse the remaining assets to a few customers.

In addition to that, since they knew of the theft and did not report it. Instead trying to do it cowboy fashion and fix it themselves.

They say they contacted the FBI with no response. I just have one question here.

Do you believe that?

Heads will roll.

They are also not letting customers get out US dollars.  I have some money there in US dollars that I tried to get out earlier this month but they would not send me the money.  They still won't let me withdraw it.

It seems to me that the owner could be in trouble for running a Ponzi scheme for the last year and a half.  That is illegal and he was using deposits to cover withdrawals for a long time and not disclosing the problems.  My deposits we being used to pay other customers.

The standard response to a multi-million dollar theft is to wait a year and a half and then make 1 phone call and fill out one form on the internet, what do you expect them to do?

Is Cryptsy running as a busines in the US? Does US law allow a business run while it is insolvency?

No, don't misunderstand. They only released a few alt coins, not all of them.

They pick and choose who is getting paid. And when!  So if the market falls and you ever get your coin back it is worth...less Tongue

It's better than doing nothing, for sure. Though I agree, most that withdraw these are going to dump them now, as many people only used Cryptsy for trading.

"Yeah we tried calling the FBI but they're never home!"

What a bunch of tweaking wankers.  Yeah they're an American company and you can stay up and running while in bankruptcy as far as I know.  Not that they listen to the law anyway.

You don't say
It's obvious OP is just seeking attention in hope to get himself popular by "finding" the hacker of Crptsy
Crptsy wasn't hacked at all, they are just running away from their responsibility with money in their pockets Tongue

? I haven't said anything more because Vern never responded to my first bounty request. Once he replies I will make an update.

What if he never responds? Do you have a deadline in mind to tell us all what you know if he doesn't respond?

Yes and maybe you can also contact them with their ticket system and post a printscreen here. This way they can't say they didn't got your message.
If they are serious about making it right, they would take this chance.

How did you try to make contact with him, and are you sure your message has got through to him? In November BitJohn said Vern's probably in China, though he wasn't certain, which suggests BitJohn wasn't in contact with him. If he's hiding in China and Cryptsy staff can't contact him then your messages probably haven't got through to him, or he's ignoring them.

I am pretty sure Vern is currently in China ....

I think you could drop all of the info you have here in a post here on bitcointalk along with a bitcoin address signature or PGP signature.

Then if your information is worthy and infact does lead to Cryptsy getting the BTC back you could prove that you were the first to come forward with this information by the timestamp and prove it was you by signing your BTC address or PGP key to claim the bounty.
You could also archive the post to secure it further.. https://archive.is/

BTW I think that there is a better chance of someone here breaking this case, such as bruno, before vern anyway if he is even trying.

Could you atleast tell us if you have conclusive intel that proves that Vern is not one in the same as the "hacker", or some cryptsy insider the "hacker", or if infact this was done by some outsider "hacker"?

This is my fear as well. Look how many reputable news sources have found who Satoshi is. Oh, and how many Satoshis there really are. I'd hate for some innocent party to get nailed.

Hello I have offered to give big Vern the identity of the person that committed the theft against cryptsy and help them be put to justice but he is not responding to me. I offered my services and to divulge this information for a bounty of %30 of the stolen funds I also said I am willing to negotiate a bit to make things easier.

Here is my twitter were I have tweeted at Big Vern multiple times https://twitter.com/cryptcracker1/with_replies

I am asking for a contract to ensure I am paid the bounty, if anyone is able to reach Big Vern please tell him to get in contact with me asap.
sound interesting, how much your funds?i think 30% is high amount if your funds really big Smiley but i am not sure people here can help you to take back your funds, crptsy is being freak, and also the owner -_-

They released coin with name starting A to E. That does not include Bitcoin. Cryptsy still holds most of the customer coins.
