I went ahead and created a faucet for VAL. In case anyone is having a hard time getting started in getting your VAL's through the website, you can use the faucet. Please don't abuse the service. Admin can add it to the OP if he'd like. I'm currently working on a twitter tip bot as well, will be posting more news soon.
