Is this a scam? That referral code is for anyone with an account to refer people and earn a percentage of one's trading.

well done.  What ever became of the Point-of-Sale inititive?

"The powers of financial capitalism had another far-reaching aim, nothing less than to create a world system of financial control in private hands able to dominate the political system of each country and the economy of the world as a whole. This system was to be controlled in a feudalist fashion by the central banks of the world acting in concert, by secret agreements arrived at in frequent meetings and conferences. The apex of the systems was to be the Bank for International Settlements in Basel, Switzerland, a private bank owned and controlled by the world's central banks which were themselves private corporations. Each central bank...sought to dominate its government by its ability to control Treasury loans, to manipulate foreign exchanges, to influence the level of economic activity in the country, and to influence cooperative politicians by subsequent economic rewards in the business world."

I did sign up.  I would say it looks pretty good too.  I have not deposited funds yet but wow are there a hell of a lot of withdrawal choices!

I guess the fact that MTGOX took in more then  in $30,000 fees in a day was enough to spur some competition.  Smiley

I've noticed a small oversight.  There does not seem to be any way for a user to deposit in bitcoins, there is only the FAQ that tells the reader generally how this is done, and not a link to the market's bitcoin receiving address to actually do so.

Nice job, Bruce.  One thing though, it says "This commission ranges from 0.25% to 0.75% of your sale and can be found in your user profile."  How do I get to my profile?  The commission is not listed in the Dashboard.

Deposit coins by selecting deposit funds, then selecting BTC.  Then you need to fill out the form and go to the dashboard for the address.  It is a little convoluted and should be improved there.

Quote
When you create an account using a referral code your commission rate is automatically discounted 10%.

Here's my referral code, so if you are afraid that you might only get -5% on the one in the OP and want to have a "user" one: TH-R1138

Nice page btw., I'll wait some time until I start trading probably, but gratulations anyways!

They made a fatal mistake in using GoDaddy to both register the domain and host (jomax.net = godaddy)
USA can pull them both whenever they feel like it.

Use offshore domain and hosting. Use CloudFlare for DDOS protection, if they'll host LulzSec they'll host Bitcoin exchangers but at least you won't have your escrow wallet.dat seized  (i'm betting it's hosted on jomax.net too)

If you elect to deposit via domestic bank transfer, it asks you to deposit at:

Bank: ING DIRECT

I am still not quite sure how it ties your transfer back to your account on their site.

I believe this will lower the price of BTC over the short term as users go over to TradeHill.

Thoughts?

I deposited a little BTC for a test sale. It showed up fairly quickly in my account, and now I have an active order (come and get it!)

I think it is quite possible that with the features and fees here, the hill could become bigger than the mountain.

Instant is probably a relative term.  I've had a Dwolla deposit pending for more than an hour, so it doesn't appear to be automated.

First thing I clicked was Trade API, then I was just a little let down.

I hope they do a nice job with the API, as that is what enables all the cool external development to drive more trades through the exchange.

Feature wishlist:
  • Secure WebSockets (wss://) for streaming data and real time trade interface
  • JSONP fallback for compatibility
  • Ability to poll trades after a certain number, so you can do smart updates on a client
  • Fix the annoying Box A, Box B on the deposit/withdraw form. Create a custom form for each operation (or just replace 'Box A' with 'Bitcoin Address' and hide all the other boxes.

Here's hoping we don't swamp TradeHill with overwhelming traffic when it's just getting started.

OK. Get this: I just saw my trade partially execute. My price (29.9999) was actually on the ticker, and when I checked my dashboard, I saw that it correctly showed part of my BTC sold, and part still for sale.

Sweeeeeeeeeeeeet.

I'll probably never get to do that again.

edit: To make things even more complicated, I canceled my 29.9999 sell order (when MtGox blew past my price), and the rest of my BTC are hanging out at 34.9999

Come and get them!

Oh wow. The MtGox bid is 30.7899 and the TradeHill ask is 30

Even counting for fees, this is free money to anyone who has an account both places (look up arbitrage).

I never thought I would actually see it happen. In stocks a clear arbitrage opportunity is always gone in milliseconds, but this has persisted for minutes!

Yet another thing we will probably never see again (once volume picks up on TradeHill)

I believe this will lower the price of BTC over the short term as users go over to TradeHill.

Thoughts?

I think it may lower it short term from what the price would have been had they opened up, but not actually bring the price down, just not as high. Long term it helps because it lightens the work load for all other exchangers, thus making it quicker to buy coins, and more likely that people do it, raising demand, supply stays same, cost goes up.

I'm not sure that there is a connection between quicker buying ability and increase in buyers, but i think so, because i know people who wanted to buy months ago, and didn't because they found out it wasn't an relatively instant process, I guess people just don't like that limbo stage, go figure..

So Does Bruce owns or operate this company?
Because it says the jurisdiction is based in Chile...
and to deposit, you must wire the money to someone name Jered:

Name: Jered Kenna
Bank: ING DIRECT
Routing: 031176110
Account: 143949819

Address:ING DIRECT
1 South Orange Street
Wilmington, DE
19801

I'm sick of waiting several days to send money to Dwolla and then to Mt. Gox.. So, I'd very much prefer simply wiring money to some exchange. But again I'd prefer to know who, and how reputable, this person that I'm sending thousands of $ to first.

Thank you.

That's a rather serious accusation. Ever searched the internet ? Affiliate/referal bonuses have been quiet common (even before the internet existed), it's an extremely cost-efficient way for businesses to outsource their advertising at no direct cost.

This is bogus and seems like mindlessly copying the mistake of MtGox and Mybitcoin. So damn easy to do right. Ask for a deposit address, get one, get told that it expires in 1 day, 90 days, whatever. Deposit whatever you want to it.

It's also bogus to say that you won't share data and then say that you will give data if a gov requests it.  Huh Just admit that you share data with people if you are scared of them. Or grow a pair, but that's asking a lot I know.

Why does the Trade Hill FAQ mention BitcoinExchange Services (an exchange at bitcoinexchange.cc) as if it was them?
Quote
Does BitcoinExchange do government fiat currency exchanges or money transmitting services?

No, we do not process any type of government backed fiat currency exchanges, nor do we provide money transmittal services. BitcoinExchange Services simply buys and sells digital commodities, and we use licensed and reputable currency exchangers and money transmittal services such as PayPal, Western Union, Moneygram, major banks and financial institutions, etc., to faciliate our transfers.

Did Trade Hill copy parts of their FAQ or are they the same?

Because without patching bitcoind it's a pain. You have to constantly poll the addresses to see if any deposits have gone in. Multiply this by 10,000 users and it's not scalable. So by giving a 'one shot' address you can scan only this address, and expire it after a couple of days.

I like how the fee here is *greater* than the one at Mt. Gox.

Also, putting in BTC takes forever.

That being said, the website seems to work OK (although what's with all the extra fields?), and I like all the extra withdrawal options.

Sorry for any confusion.

No I didn't create TradeHill.

TradeHill is a new sponsor of The Bitcoin Show.

Also, we were told that our referral code would offer 5% discount for life.  Actually, that was a mistake.  It gives you 10% discount for life.

So if you support what we're doing over here at http://OnlyOneTV.com with "The Bitcoin Show" and "El Show de Bitcoin"....  Please use our referral code.

Wouldn't you just need to check at every block (= ~every 10 minutes) if a transaction was in it to an address that you own? Doesn't look that bad to me...
Also you could just use a different wallet every 10/100/1000(?) users and check their balance - if it changed, check the individual adresses in there. Last but not least you could sort your adresses by activity + age and first scan the newest + most active ones on each block. If there's still some balance change left in some of your wallets, check deeper and deeper only on these.

In the end it might not be as 100% scalable as "throwaway adresses" but maybe enough - and it would eliminate a lot of support calls ("I've sent more money to the adress and this time it has not showed up!"). For the "untraceable" fans, you could still offer a "throwaway" solution/switch with a clear warning sign.

I wonder how generated transactions show up, would be great if these too get supported by the big bitcoin aggregators (mybitcoin, MtGox and maybe soon(?) TradeHill).

Edit:
Oh, and switch to UTC only on your site please!

I don't think you can, with an unpatched bitcoind, get notified of a new block, or get a list of all transactions in a block. I'm just explaining why some sites have gone for the 'one shot' deposit option. It's easy to implement. There are other ways of doing it. For example every 10 minutes looking at 'listtransactions' for an address in the deposit list. For my site I'm still exploring the best ways of doing this. Lucky I don't have many users Smiley Yeah I plan to switch to UTC. I thought the server was UTC already but forgot I'd set it up with NZ time.

Well, pools send out a long polling notification on each new block - until you figured out how to do this with bitcoind, you could just listen to a few bigger pools and if all of them send a long polling notice, recheck your balances. A little dirty hack, but should work...

Is Tradehill referring to Bitcoins as currency (like bitcoin.org does) or goods/commodity like MtGox does?  It makes a big difference with regards to financial regulations and money transmission businesses and AML and KYC rules and required bookkeeping records.

Calling your Bitcoins that you buy/sell/(trade for goods) a currency is stepping into a legal minefield in my opinion, as the financial industry is regulated by numerous laws beyond the scope of this posting, for legislation administrative rulings see http://fincen.gov/

Is calling your Bitcoins that you buy/sell/(trade/barter for goods) a digital P2P crypto-commodity not maybe more accurate and legally acceptable if it is traded/exchanged/bartered or bought/sold not within the scope of financial industry?

It seems like Australia and the United Kingdom's tax offices view Bitcoins in the latter manner.  see http://www.theregister.co.uk/2011/06/08/bitcoin_under_attack/

UK considers Bitcoins legal and taxable unique intellectual property assets? : "... quoting Her Magesty’s Revenue & Customs as saying that turning Bitcoins into currency could make transactions taxable..."  (turning Bitcoins into currency = Bitcoins not a currency, but a digital good?)

Australia considers Bitcoins legal and taxable unique intellectual property assets? : "... If traced by the Australian Tax Office, Bitcoins would probably get the same treatment as “barter” exchanges, with tax assessed on the value of traded goods or services. ..." (barter of digital goods?)

Also MtGox has carefully worded their website as well as to proclaim that you can buy or sell the internet commodity known as Bitcoin.  Unlike bitcoin.org proclaiming it to be a currency, for some unknown reason?

Disclaimer:  Applies to all posts of Cloud9.  Posting is only an opinion.  On a forum like this we do not need to give you permission to have your own opinion.

I see USD in my account from selling bitcoins AND referral payments, so I can confirm that referral payments do work.

Haven't tried withdrawing any USD yet, but everything looks awesome so far.

I think more people have been using my referral code (TH-R1168) because it gives you extra luck with the ladies in addition to the 10% discount Smiley

Referral Benefit is the amount somebody saves when he uses your ref link to register. Referral Rate is what you get when somebody uses your ref link.
so its advantageous for everybody to use a ref link...preferably mine of cause  Grin

I already emailed them about this. They said they would do international wire transfers with me through HSBC. They will also be opening CAN accounts this week (unless delayed) for Canadian users. I was very pleased by all of this.

Hmm. Referral commissions are paid in USD rather than BTC! Isn't it what may be called a sneaky business practice?
Come on guys, make it right, pay out in BTC. It's a Bitcoin exchange or what?
Not only this is unfair to your partners but also not very good for BTC economy. (as BTC use is not encouraged in this case)

Why does tradehill.com look just like mtgox.com?

Namecoin just seems to be an attempt to recreate scarcity in domain names.
Well, it has a mechanism to try and mitigate a "gold rush" of sorts, but that's not the problem it tries to solve. Rather, it attempts to provide domain names in a decentralized manner such that people using Namecoin domains don't have to worry about authorities coming along and revoking them.

One more valid reason to make referral payouts in BTC. Otherwise we'll end up with a mixture of small amounts in different currencies.

Ok kids, my experience today with TradeHill. Signed up last night and sent some coins, which showed up fairly quickly. Got up this morning, did a quick sale of 5 of them. I immediately turned around and requested a withdraw via Dwolla. Since I was getting ready for work and not paying close attention I forgot to put in my Dwolla account #. About 20 minutes later (7:45 am) I emailed and explained the situation and included my account # and the amount I had originally put in for the transfer. At 2:30pm it posted to my Dwolla account. I did not get a reply email, but to be honest, the transfer is reply enough for me Wink

Overall I am pleased, the plethora of withdrawal options looks interesting. I can't wait to see how they do options and margin trading.

UPDATE: When I got up the next morning and checked, the Dwolla transfer to my bank account had already went through. So Less than 24 hours from the time I sold my btc to when I had cash in my bank account. Not bad.

I suppose nobody asked this questions yet:

1. Why isn't the site listed on Bitcoin wiki's Trade section ? https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Trade
2. Does the owner have any representative on this forum ? (i especially mean a representative with some reputation)

Sorry, it just doesn't look like a service i would trust.

Nobody's saying they got ripped off yet, are they?  All of the feedback I've been reading has been reasonably positive.

I've always wondered this about MtGox or any of these exchanges.
What happens if there is a run on bitcoin? if the market panics for some reason and dumps? how will these exchanges have enough government issued fiat to cover withdraws?

Since you can ONLY trade money that has been paid into the exchange before, there should be no issue. This is only true, if the exchanges really keep all the money in the company and not take let's say a percentage of it and put it on stocks or something.

Not only this is unfair to your partners but also not very good for BTC economy. (as BTC use is not encouraged in this case)

It was easier to code that way. We're going to implement it to payout in BTC.
If you want BTC you can just hit instant buy and convert you BTC over until that feature is implemented.

Honestly we're receiving so much volume we haven't been able to communicate like we want to.

When we've got some time (hopefully in a day or  two) we can put out a lot more information and answer every question and participate in the forums more.

Honestly I personally was looking most forward to that point since I've been with this for so long but transactions are taking priority like I believe they should.

Guys, I'm having a issue withdrawing my funds.

I have 31,82U$S balance in my account and when I try to withdraw them by LR, the following msg appears: You do not have enough LR available to withdraw 31 LR! Only 0.0000 LR available.

How can I transfer the money to LR? Does anybody know?

Thanks!

Edit: Wow, I got a response in just a few hours. I'm delighted at how fast their service is.
