I've been actually kind of thinking instead of sex workers needing bitcoin... That maybe bitcoin needs more sex workers.

The number one reason why smart, revolutionary people I know don't use bitcoin isn't because the tech is bad, it's because the social dynamics are. Progressive people don't want to take shit from privileged folx who roll around not being aware of that. Most of my interests and hobbies include people who can have layered conversations around intersectionality *except* for my crypto circles. It's amazingly behind the times in that. Literally whole forums full of $@#%^%...

Sex work is often a place where marginalized people get cash when the system messes with them. It's easy access and you always have your body. Part of being a marginalized person includes reading social situations around you to keep yourself safe. You learn to attune yourself, so a lot of sex workers are super emotionally intelligent not just because it helps with the job but it's a serious survival skill.

Privileged folk on the other hand don't have to develop this because their privilege shields them from a lot of day to day turbulence in different areas (depending on what their identities & experiences are.) I think a lot of people involved in bitcoin could learn from these skills.

A lot of creativity and tenacity happens on the fringes, and that includes people of colour, people who are transgender, people who are sex workers. And if you've been paying attention to fintech, you might even have noticed a few stirrings of a coming storm not just from bitcoin but a different wind.

People in bitcoin and other decentralized tech will have to make space for these identities and learn how these social dynamics affect social adoption.

They need to make sure that transaction is accepted with at least 3 to 6 confirmations... That's a long time of 30 to 60 minutes. Can the customers wait that long?

Alot of people accept transactions with zero deposits, also, if they run their own local node, it will be safe to accept confirmations without deposits

If its a small transaction, like getting a coffee, its fine, but if its something expensive, there shouldnt really be that much of a big deal either way. Its not like you need to walk out with your new car right this second, you need to fill papers anyways.

Also sellers can deal with a payment processor instead of accept BTC directly to their pocket, which does the job of checking for double spend risk and that is also covered for fraud.

I'm guessing you never paid for any service with bitcoin ? If they use bitpay , it will be credited immediately, atleast that was the case
each and every time i was ordering something from merchat that was using bitpay. Bitcoin can be used everywhere and for everything, period.

LOl.. that is the biggest problem with Bitcoin payments. As an alternative, you could use a Bitcoin-based payment processor such as Bitpay or Coinbase. But the issue here is that Bitpay is famous for turning down "risky businesses". Previously, they had refused to process payments for recreational (legal) marijuana sellers in Colorado and porn sites based in California.

More like becoming paypal to which they also turn down adult industry and so Paxum exist. Maybe someday a bitpay alternative will also sprout.
And maybe even better that don't only process bitcoin but also some major altcoins.

There's another very similar thread but I think it was only referring to prostitutes or escorts. I always thought Bitcoin could appeal a lot more to the Porn industry as a payment method since it's much more anonymous and easy, no need to enter credit cards info, etc, you don't even need an account. I guess as there was not a lot of adoption or success no one actually pay for porn then?  Roll Eyes

When will this type of thinking disappear? You don't need 3 to 6 confirmations on normal transactions. Nobody will double spend a transaction for anything less than hundreds of thousands of dollars because the recources it requires are too big.

Also, even exchanges accept deposits in 1 confirmation. If they can do it, with generally bigger valued transactions, surely a sex worker could do it. Make payment, go for it, and before leaving the transactions is checked. It will have atleast 1 confirmation by then.

since bitcoin is more of an online money, escorts are not going to use it instead of cash any time soon. but as i said since it is more of an online money there is many places that bitcoin is being used as payment for NSFW content, like on some subs on reddit people tip for those content in bitcoin. also there are websites like xotika that are dedicated to only bitcoin as payment.

You may have some points here but I'm going to disagree with you on two things. Firstly, sex workers (online one's) need BTCitcoin more than the other way since it's the only way for them to cover their true identity. Secondly this only could apply for those who work in front of cameras only and not those who work as real sex workers (in person) since they will go for cash (any time of the day all day long) mainly to get rid of the hassle of exchanging it to cash in the end.

How smart and revolutionary can they be if they reject technology based on "social dynamics?" That's like refusing to get a flying car because too many jocks have one - in other words, the opposite of smart and revolutionary.

Tell these precious snowflakes that they can run the technology without having to interact with the community.

It is true that I have not seen transaction with at least 1 confirmation being rejected subsequently. However, why is Coinbase insisted on 6 confirmations before you can spend the coins you have received? Maybe there is be a valid reason?
