Actually it would be better if we both gamble for fun and profit, however it's just really hard to achieve that kind of success.
When I gamble, I usually start with a small amount but when the losing streak strikes, I cannot control myself because I do not want to stop losing money.
Sometimes I regret and say I will quit gambling, but it never happens.

People are aware that they will lose money but when you are short of money, the temptation to win some money will trigger you to gamble. I agree with what you said in terms of making friends with people that don't have gambling habit and spending time doing out door ctivities like gardening, fishing can also help but ones need to stay away companies that could make you back to or do gambling.

To leave gambling in the good way while we already addicted will be hard and almost impossible. Usually gambling addict will leave they habits after faced a very bad loss that make them unable to continue their hobbies. The game forced them to leave the game, which isn't the good way I guess.

If you find it satisfying, I don’t think you’ll ever be able to quit gambling for good plus it’ll be frustrating to adjust to the changes. Although, if you do want to quit, I suggest you block ALL the sites, connections and never go to the places where you gamble. It’s a small step but it’s a pretty big one if you’re a certified gambler.
