If we restrict to 1 MN per 1 IP
and if we asume a VPS with fix IP rent cost at least 2 USD per month (or your own electricity and equipment pay off cost that at home and not that fix IP for home are also not for free)
that for everything below that value you are losing money.

Without the 1 MN per IP restriction it doesnt really matters if 5K or 50k however you will spend a big time starting multiple MN on a server.

To be an attractive coin it is recommendable to be able to run just 1 MN on 1 VPS with a profit and not a loss.
For those as heigher the MN colateral the better profit they will have

50k Example user invests in 1 MN (158 USD):
1 MN on 1 VPS -> 6.16 USD - 2 USD = 4.16 USD profit per month -> profit 2.6 % ! each month

25k Example user invests in 1 MN (79 USD):
1 MN on 1 VPS -> 3.09 USD - 2 USD = 1.09 USD profit per month -> profit 1.3 % each month

20k Example user invests in 1 MN (63 USD):
1 MN on 1 VPS -> 2.47 USD - 2 USD = 0.47 USD profit per month -> profit 0.7 % each month

15k Example user invests in 1 MN (47 USD):
1 MN on 1 VPS -> 1.86 USD - 2 USD = -0.14 USD lost per month -> loss of - 0.3 % each month

10k Example user invests in 1 MN (32 USD):
1 MN on 1 VPS -> 1.24 USD - 2 USD = -0.76 USD lost per month -> loss of - 2.3 % each month

5k Example user invests in 1 MN (16 USD):
1 MN on 1 VPS -> 0.62 USD - 2 USD = -1.38 USD lost per month -> loss of - 8.6 %  !!!! each month

And that's the reason why a low cost MN isnt good. Your cost to run it eats up everything you earn. And to my knowledge 2 USD per VPS with fix IP is at the lower end.

So that is where the 50K people are coming from and the reason why heigher is better for the situation now.
However as said keep in mind that when the BSD price rises in the future a MN cost can climb heigh and will hurt newcommers. (see old complains in dash about MN price)
But in order to be attractive enough you have to set a heigh enough MN cost or ppl stay out and you never get a BSD price increase except of course BSD has other attractions than POS like it established itself as a  currency somehow.

That is a great post!! We have current 400- 550 Masternode. You calculate with 1116 MN. But I think 25K or 50K is a good idea.

The wallet for https://chainz.cryptoid.info/bsd/ entered safe mode, and was no longer replying to RPC calls, but instead returns

Quote
"Safe mode: Warning: The network does not appear to fully agree! Some miners appear to be experiencing issues."

I have restarted the wallet, but it got stuck again, some developer action may be required to sort out a fork or bug.

(about safe mode see https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Alert_system#Safe_mode)

edit: now attempting a full resynch of the wallet

There is definitely a problem!! My wallet does not synchronize, but the much bigger problem is the Bittrex BSD wallet is in maintenace for hours now! This could cause severe problems (delisting).

Devs please have look into this... Thank you so much!

In the version 1.0.0.4 are over 21 hardnodes hardcoded. I think 2-3 connection in 20 min is possible.
