My tip is to meet at some sort of table and set up a camera to monitor the transaction.
For extra security, have the camera recording to some sort of remote server.
I was writing this as a reply to someone else's topic and it got kind of lengthy, so I decided to make it into a topic instead. The intention of this topic is to help new buyers and sellers in the BitCoin community who are looking to meet up and trade locally. I've done a lot of local trades and sales over the years, so I'm hoping that my experiences can help beginners by giving them ideas on how to trade safely. For this purpose I've separated my advice into three sections: meeting for trades, advice for buying, and advice for selling. I've tried to format everything in a clear and concise manner to make this topic more readable. I'm open to suggestions for edits and additions to help make this guide as useful as possible. Hope this guide helps anyone looking to start trading locally! Note: Some names/locations I mention are US based, so I apologize if they're irrelevant for your location. The theories behind this topic should be fine regardless of country.

Encourage the seller to pay you that is what I think you should do, talk to him/her directly. You should always have an assurance to a person making a transaction with. I am not sure if you can report it with someone who can really help you in case of scamming you. All I can say is not to trust easily.

Thanks for this detailed article. It would help not only to newbies but also to the experienced ones regarding local transactions. Since bitcoin is free to use currency, I see a good sustainable growth of user base in near future and it is possible that local transactions could surpass international transactions in terms of frequency if major players like airbnb, local merchants starts accepting it.
So the chances of threat and loot will also increase with it and to prevent such cases, your article is helpful, thanks again. It deserves sticky position.

If you are deep into the cloak and dagger feel of it all, NFC would be the best lol. Or a radio transmit over short distance, like snooping those chip cards. Just wait for your confirmations, at least one, before walking away.

This things should be considered at all. I just remembered that guy who have been scammed trading bitcoin in the street. He should have read this first. First things we should be looking is security in the are if it talks about money. He didnt do that as if bitcoin trade is so illegal.

Thank you for this. I've been wondering on what are the requirements or guidelines for local transactions. What to consider when meeting up with a stranger. Will keep this and probably print this for future references. I think it is also good to bring a friend, at least. To make sure on your transaction. Especially if the location is far from your home.

This information helps me a lot to be very careful when it comes to meeting up people. Thanks for this. I haven't try yet but at least I would be careful when I'm on that situation. Let us all think twice our moves.

This is a very timely guide and information as I have heard many victims of unscrupulous buyers or posing as buyers but with an intention to steal and hurt the other side of the supposed deal. Yes, meeting in a public place like a popular restaurant can be the best idea as the place can have CCTV recording. And don't do it alone as much as possible.

I think we need to rethink the concept of local transactions, because when we are dealing with Crypto - even local payments involve a global component.
Take the concept of paying in store; even when paying in store you have to send data over a network, which is often connected to a global network, and the internet.
Knowing this, it is just as easy to a non-local transaction as it is to do a local transaction, since all one is really relying on is the network to process the payments. Consider the Alcurex exchange remote markets engine. This is just another perfect example of a local transaction on a bitcoin exchange that is happening instantly, while also accessing a non-local market, via Poloniex or Bittrex, so in reality, no transaction is ever truly local?
What do you guys think? Are transaction ever truly local?
