A great post thanks I am sure it will help a lot of people. My first sale of Bitcoin was 3 BTC and at the time it was around £1000 per coin I arranged to meet in the cafe of a major supermarket (free WiFi and good coffee) and had someone sit at a table discreetly nearby.

My tip is to meet at some sort of table and set up a camera to monitor the transaction. This is a really good piece of advice, strength in numbers. Mentioning a second person could also help deter potential muggers who won't want to deal with two people. and, like you said, simply having a friend sitting a table away can help if a dangerous situation arises.

Personally until I know the buyer, I always do the transaction in either McDonalds or supermarket cafe (free wifi) no need to take a camera as they are usually well covered anyway with cctv, also have a friend sat a few tables away having a cup of something so they are not obviously with you. And if I have received a large amount of cash I go to the toilet and pass the cash to another friend that way if I get jumped they don't get anything. I know it sounds a bit James Bondish but better safe than sorry.

Yea thats correct to deal a person who are in front of you that is really less risky. You gave good advise, I also try to buy or sell through local exchanger or person hand to hand so no risk .

This is really very good piece of advice: strength in numbers. I would personally disclose an additional person to the other trader (either in advance or during the meeting), but that's up to the discretion of the trader. I certainly don't see the harm in keeping it quiet, since it hopefully wouldn't be a sour trade in the first place.

I had read your post a while ago. It really help me to start. Especially, newbies in trading. It really gave me tips to secure my transactions using btc and of course using personal money.
Hope you can still sending tips on how managing time while you are working.
Thanks.

I recommend meeting up because first it's more legit and more social, and if your transaction is far from you find a guy who is near you and stick to that transaction but if none. always check that guy if he is trusted or a friend of yours introduced him.
Meet up is an old way of doing business becuase I believe that is in aligned to those who were not able adapt to the development of the world. That is the same reason how crypto currency got an impaxt to a specific please! We have to be aware what is hhappening to the word and also to your environment.

Did you guys be too paranoid? I often do bitcoin transactions met physically with the buyer and this deal is always safe there is no crime whatsoever? as a seller I always ask for money first then send the coins, if you're a buyer better buying on a trusted person first (it's mandatory), I think maybe a bad thing happened like fraud but I never experienced that but it's okay to follow your tips. to reduce risk

I often do deals with people in my city, I know that whenever evil can happen right ? let alone bitcoin is still illegal. ?I cannot report to the police if I lose money because of bitcoin? so I always be careful when doing transactions with people that I don't know. I agree with the tips of the OP. at least you should do transaction in public dude. I always do that and never have a problem

The other threat to your safety while performing a local trade: United States Department of Homeland Security"On Friday Feb 9, I was arrested in my home by Department Of Homeland Security over a #Bitcoin transaction from nov 2016 and am released under a personal recognizance bond. I am being charged with: 18 USC 1956 - Money Laundering Instrument" https://twitter.com/NODEfather/status/963860385336999936They also confiscated his devices in which he holds cryptocurrency funds.
