We've had to stop the faucet payment system, the faucet will go into full maintenance very soon. We appreciate that the system has degraded recently and a key team member has been away - its got to a point where we can't keep it going so it has been decided to pause it for at least 1 week so that we can adjust the system to be more robust. As the faucet hasn't gone into maintenance yet @clemahieu will run the payout script once it does to allow the backlog to be paid and then it will pause.

More importantly for the RaiBlocks ecosystem/economy there has been loads of work on improving the wallet - this is vital for success and actually we hope will help the faucet, a more reliable wallet means that people can collect their own xrb rather then rely on online service (the dreaded pools). As has been reported in the newsletter the wallet has made lots of progress, its being extensively tested and will be here soon. While the faucet is in maintenance some of the focus is going to be on getting this release out.

this would be a much better way to improve focus with wallet and then allow the faucets to be as easy as it is like before hopefully after this improvement we will see more interesting idea from the team not only the free claims but the stability of the wallet version.

Thank you for advice about the faucet maintenance.
We really was having issues.
I have monitored the network latency between verification and receive of new captcha and it is about 30 seconds, some times 1 minute.
It is too slow.

Just my one cent to the pile:
Maybe it is time to drastically change the distribution model? Just like most other altcoin airdrops, go with registration and 1click for everyone to receive fixed amount every 24h or so.
No more farming, no more abusing, bots and "illegal" pools.
It works for others than why not for Raiblocks? Yes, its super ordinary, in fact one may say its boring but you can see for yourself where competitive model drove all of us...
Either way, good luck and try to make Rai interesting and fair one more time pretty please

Maybe raiblocks only needs a real time scalable server, like Azure says be, then solve the network latency issue.
