One of the Dao based coin claims itself that it raised their ICO estimate in just 12 hours of opening the fund raising campaign. How well that coin is different from slock.it?

yes, digix, a gold-backed DAO that was.
remember, any company can be a "DAO"  decentralized autonomous organization.
this DAO ICO is for Slock.it
which im not sure if your familiar with but has been a talk FOREVER, it's a real cool idea
https://slock.it/

Well, let me take a look at the website and try to find the difference between DAOs. But still if I get some more references to read more about DAOs that would be helpful.

THE DAO is essentially the SLock. It DAO

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

The DAO’s tokens:

Allow the holder to vote on any expenditure The DAO could make
Are fully transferable. They can be traded peer-to-peer or on an exchange
Represent a relative portion of The DAO's crypto assets at any given time

More info:

The way i understood it, it is a DAO that can fund nearly everything it's shareholders are voting for. Slock.it is only the biggest(/first?) real project.

Yes, hence the use of the word "essentially" in the original post......

Slock. It for whatever reason didn't want it to be an ICO but instead a DAO and "The DAO" was created to that end......

But, yes, apparently,"THE DAO" is essentially an entity that will use the ETH under its control to fund projects that will bring profit to its participants and having tokens within the DAO entitles you to a say in what projects to fund and also entitles you to some dividends from successful projects......

Disclaimer: This is the way i have understood it to be.....do your own research and don't just take my word for it..........

The DAO is not the same as slock.it, the DAO operates more like a hedgefund. You can read more on: https://daohub.org/

Sounds to me in essence like shares in a company. The shares give you voting rights for the company to do projects with its funding from the shares and profit is then distributed to the shareholders. Is this a fair comparison?

my thoughts too ;\  have to use ether, and can't use an exchange. there's no lite wallet for eth afaik so that means a 50gb dl just to invest?

yupp. they sell as shares, and we hope the company becomes more valuable and therefore our shares become worth more Wink

This is not really correct, the DAO in essence has no link with slock.it, slock.it is designing the software, the DAO is a seperate entity entirely. The DAO will go through the process of hiring slock.it though, you need to read all the information to understand how it works effectively.

Look like cool project, smart contracts are actually seems to be functional now. I have heard that we can use DAO to vote on company plan or something like that. Or Holding DAO will be like holding asset of company which will adopt DAO. Is this true?

If true will throw some money in this crown funding.

Don't worry, yes, it's very confusing since it's a new concept, it took me a few attempts to work out whats going on with it.

Created Once. Endless opportunities.

DAOs will be at the center of many economies going forward and intend to be at the forefront of supporting innovative and promising projects, products and services in order to become 'The DAO': A flexible decentralized autonomous organization leveraging the wisdom of the crowds to benefit the DAO Token Holders.

Profits. Ethics. Technology.

The DAO is a for-profit DAO that will diligently use the ETH under its control to create value and provide benefits to its members while collaborating and improving the decentralised ecosystem as a whole.

Multiple Projects, Several Contractors

While there is a particular interest in the sharing economy and IoT applications of the blockchain, The DAO is not limited to these market verticals. It is open to exploring any and all new markets unlocked by blockchain technology.

The DAO’s Token Holders debate the viability and profitability of Proposals on or off-chain through its forums.

Controlling the DAO
We currently have a centralized organization of "Curators/Rulers". We use these people as a fail-safe mechanism to directly prevent anyone other than ourselves from receiving the funds. Later on we will allow the DAO Token Holders to vote on these people. Rulers control the whitelist, the list of Contractors authorized to receive $ETH from the DAO.

View curators here: shown here https://daohub.org/curator.html

Do you have an idea for us to whitelist?
Submit a proposal: https://daohub.org/proposals.html

Is it weird that there are people who control what the DAO can do?
