i await to be pleasantly surprised, but this experiment in crowd investing has so much potential to become a complete disaster - The DAO and 'only invest what you can afford to lose' were made for each other.

You really can't lose that much if you split, that is if you were a long term ETH holder. If you bought ETH specially to get into the DAO at these prices (even at 1-100 ratio) then there's a chance Ethereum goes back to $5 or even less in the next months but that's the only real risk.

I personally think that ETH price will have ups & downs but it will eventually hit the $20-25 range. Maybe even this year or early 2017.

how many ETH will there be this time next year? pushing 95 million?

I'm really not sure how many ETH will be mined or created in the next 5 years, but considering that there can be 300-500 million for example and the DAO will have less than a billion (some tokens will be burned/split) there's a chance they will appreciate in value. Of course that will depend on the investments and proposals approved.

Interesting. And at the POS switch, they are going to greatly cut the emission down from 17 million a year to, I forget the number, is it 2 million a year or ?

Pay 2 ETH and make your proposal. The DAO may decide to pay someone for marketing. It may be a tough sell though. You'll need to get a quorum of 20% to at lease vote on the proposal and there seems to be a good deal of voting apathy ATM.

Not sure I understand this suggestion. I don't think you mean advertising the actual "The Dao" but more for actual proposals that pass?
You could advertise for the DAO but that would just be for raising token prices.

The real beauty and strength of the DAO is the proposals that pass and as a part of those proposals, of course there will be many times where advertising is needed.
Other times the product might just be for the internal community, but I think more of the former.
