I dont think you should start trading with a small amount because you wont make any profit with just small amounts if you want to make money with tradings you need to deal with more.

Like how much is good enough to start with? How much should one consider a good profit with this minimal amount you consider big enough. and at what period of time. This could make one set a good target.

"Big enough" is always relative. But regardless of amount, there's ways to get around starting to trade with a small bankroll. Exchanges like OKCoin, Bitmex, 1Broker, etc. provide fairly high leverage so you're able to trade for example 20 times more than you have. Obviously the risks are also greater, but that's for you to decide how much you're willing to risk.
From personal experience, it can be rewarding if you know what you're doing, but i'd wait for a period of trending (in Bitcoin). You wanna stay out of this chop, or the chinaman will take your corns!

A very good  observation though,  i do agree with your statement regarding on  altcoin trading which  is somehow usually depends more on luck than skills  since the  price is  very  unpredictable,  if you do have the skills but  luck isnt there on  buying a  certain altcoin then  you would surely suffer  loss.  We could really start trading even  on small amounts though on  alt tradings.

Maybe majority of the altcoins has no potential future value and that is what you do on relying on luck but there are altcoins with good volume that might be successful in the future, you cannot just decide it base on luck because the market does not fluctuate hard, you need to study and do the right research.

I will never prefer to gamble my coins. my signature campaign paying me 0.034BTC a week. and I don't think it is low amount to trade. I can do trade easily with 0.035BTC..
and if it is not enough then I can wait for some more weeks to increase my capital but gambling will never increase your capital..

Gambling could never be a way of making money, in order to start trading with the very little amount, going for gambling must be complete foolishness. We might end up losing all our small investments with gambling quickly for sure.

If you want to trade with a very small amount then you have to trade assets which are of little value so for example buy the cheapest altcoins.

Its a normal to lose in trading but you will learn while you are trading and you will see or find a good strategy how to trade.. just like other traders they know how to make a good profit.. many people are starting in small amount until they made a good amount and grow there capital just dont spend your balance just to use it for trading until you reach your goal.

It depends on what size of lot you are choosing. When you are having small amount of capital you must stick with small lot size. But it differs on different type of trading. With the respect to bitcoin trading, when you are having very small capital, you must try trading only mBTC not big amounts.

Anyways OP, you just need to focus on the best available alternatives if you are to try your hands on altcoins as that's the only best way to get better returns, but it contains risks too and beginning with small amount won't make you much... But still, trying with it is a better idea if you are to do a rehearsal before entering into the actual scene...
