It is appropriate, it is the right way to tell someone about bitcoin. By learning from those already experience will be very easy to make them understand and are interested in bitcoin.

it's just to get someone interested with bitcoin. while the OP asked how to teach someone about bitcoin.
but you are not wrong, after people interested with bitcoin, it might be easier to teach someone about bitcoin

Yes tell someone about bitcoin aim should also be to make them interested. If they are not interested they will not want to use bitcoin. If interested they would be easily taught and directed to use bitcoin properly.

These are certainly good ways to teach someone; but we should remember that experience is the best teacher. A good way for someone to learn is ways to obtain bitcoin; beginning with faucets, then as he realises that it’s a slow method of obtaining it; new ways are open to them like mining and signature campaigns. They would certainly develop that interest and eventually being investing in Bitcoin.

GIVE HIM 1BTC THEN INTRODUCE HIM HOW TO USE IT Roll Eyes

Giving him that much would give him the impression that you can earn that easy and fast when it comes to bitcoin. Guess what? It's not like that. It's really hard to get 1 BTC unless you buy them. And also that advice does not apply to everyone, what if the mentor himself doesn't have 1BTC?

If you give him 1BTC, he'll probably just end up being a victim of one of the ponzi sites out there. Or he'll probably lose it all from gambling by reckless betting. If you want to teach someone how to fish, you don't just give him a big fish and then he'll learn how to fish. You have to show him the way, guide him in every step of the process. Just like if you want to teach someone about Bitcoin, you have to teach him that it actually takes time, effort and knowledge in order to earn some bitcoins.

Yeah, that's one way that is quite interesting. We can provide the knowledge of the Bitcoin which gives an ease and a much better security. All that we can give in the chat when we show the bitcoin can be converted to the original money

Knowing that Bitcoins can be converted to another currency is not enough knowledge. Yes, you can make money out of converting USD>BTC from time to time. But that's only when the price of BTC moves. The process of waiting will be for days or more. Better give him more information about how to earn bitcoins because he'll probably get bored if the only thing he does is convert BTC>USD and vice versa.

I advise that after familiarizing the BTC>USD conversion, you should also introduce him to trading of alt coins. He can make money out of this much faster (by doing short trades) than  converting BTC>USD. There's a lot of guides, and tips about trading in the Internet. And he'll probably won't get bored trading altcoins because he has to watch different alt coin charts everyday.

Explain to them that is an asset. Like gold, it can be traded, bought and sold. It can be found, and more and more gold comes into existence each day.

Unlike gold, it does not have a physical manifestation (not collectibles, either.)

We should show them the benefits that it is providing, like it can be used for online shopping, online transfers with minimum fees and we should also tell them they can earn it too.

Yeah its a best method, but people won't understand and accept it as we can't explain it with its physical form. So better is to ask them to try earning as it might grab attention easily.

Whichever method you use, at the end of the day, it'll depend on the person you have in front of you. If they're not interested, it's not gonna matter how you go about it. Usually within the first few minutes of talking about Bitcoin with someone who's never heard of it, I can tell if it's a lost cause.

Introducing is the only needed, no more follow ups teachings.

After that, like the above poster said and also I stated this multiple times, if a person really wants to involved in bitcoin, it automatically drag themselves into it.

perhaps the best way is to say that bitcoin is a business that can make money in a short time, maybe they would be interested if you hear it, and you can teach, especially for the unemployed

Bad idea trying to teach someone about bitcoin, self education is always better, a lot youtube videos and different forums created for newbies. Just waste of time.

Some great ideas on this topic already....

Here are some things I do to help businesses understand bitcoin.  Feel free to add to this list.  I would love some more points.

If the person I am talking to sells anything and accepts credit card, paypal, etc...
a. explain they can save by adding bitcoin as a payment option.  Bitcoin has considerably lower payment processing fees for transactions.
b. explain the possibility of eliminating charge backs from customers who have paid with bitcoin
c. Bitcoin price volatility issue - explain bitcoin payments can be converted to fiat currencies very quickly, and fiat can be deposited automatically into a bank account
d. Integration of bitcoin payments with popular accounting software and ecommerce platforms exist.

Depending on the person I'm talking to I may avoid discussing things like
a. how banks may be as common as telex machines and land lines are now days.
b. some banks have been trying to duplicate bitcoin completely, or parts of it.
c. some banks do not discuss their security breaches.
d. some banks hurt some customers with their insane fees.

I would like to add some stats though.  So if anyone has info on how bitcoin and paypal compare in terms of daily/total volume and number of transactions that would be awesome to know.

You just need to show them practically how can you earn with it it as no one believes in online money as they have feeling of getting cheated.
