Sorry, I've searched and searched before posted but I couldn't find the answer.
I transferred BTC from mt gox to my client and 4 hours later I've still not seen anything show up in the client. Yes I've emailed support but I wanted to see if this is normal or I should be concerned?
I appreciate the help.

do you have the blockchain downloaded. there are a total of 129745 blocks right now, 1 more every 10 minutes. so by the time you read this there will be more.

129222 and building - so does that mean I just haven't downloaded the full chain yet?
Sorry I've just always kept my BTC in the exchange or mybitcoin.com but decided it was time to embrace the client.

yep, once the block that contained that transaction is downloaded and read by the client, it will show up in the window.
Make sure you have backed up your wallet.dat file properly as well, put it on a flash drive and store that flash drive in a safe place, you may even want to have it on 2 separate flash drives and check to make sure they are okay every 2-4 weeks. buy separate brands to be safer.

^Fixed Remember that you only have 100 spare keys in your keypool that get backed-up, and that most outgoing transactions will use one of these keys.

This leads me to the question, why would an end user need more than 100? although your idea, making new backups would probably be better than just checking.

When you send bitcoins to another address, you get the change back (if any), to a new made address, so even for end users more than 100 addresses can easily be used (although all the older addresses will have a balance of zero).

have you tried temporarily disabling the avast to see if the block count goes up when you do? you may have to close and reopen the client after you do so.

I can confirm that version 2.22 does not come with preloaded blocks, so at some point you downloaded the blocks you have. have you tried restarting your computer?

It worked for a little while but now can not connects again. I've restarted, turned Avast on and off, shut down the client and restarted- nothing will make it connect again.

I also uninstalled and reinstalled the client, and played with the options a fair bit to no avail.
