Is it safe to assume it's a letter?

I'm guessing it's a renown list of sorts, with the letters representing the first letter of the word on the list.

All the information needed to complete the sequence is contained within the letters, you don't need to Google anything, just use your noggin. There is more than one letter required to complete the sequence though. The 26 English alphabet letters are used, not a foreign language.

Yeah - guessed it wouldn't be that easy.

I looked at the idea of a repeating pattern so simply divided AKMNR into AKMN R and tried to repeat the AKMN pattern starting a R (wrapping around from Z back to A).

Hence showing the lower case letters. The diagonal route was where I was heading next, but nixed the idea after reading the above. I will be sad if the diagonal route proves to supply the answer.

So to make the puzzle, we put two sequences of inputs into the box:

letters S-Z:  ----->[MAGIC BOX]----> rest of sequence

When the criteria is "typography of letter includes a diagonal line", the outputs are:
letters A-R:  ----->[contains diagonal?]----> clue:{A,K,M,N,R}

If the puzzle was created with lower-case letters however:

Note the key word there in yellow. What does it read? Different. Correct! What if I were to say that somebody misread that word as difficult? Would that then make his argument valid? Thought so!
