They will probably accept ETH before bitcoin.

That's a good joke.....WAIT.....you're being serious?

Amazon will likely accept LSK before ETH.

Perhaps the Amazon market specialists have analyzed the Bitcoin market and found out that the demand for Bitcoin payment options wasn't that high so there wouldn't be a reason to implement Bitcoin payments right now because that wouldn't affect their revenue stream much if at all. If the Amazon customers had clearly demanded that Amazon should add Bitcoin to the platform and the transactions would account for a substantial amount of their revenue I am pretty sure Amazon would have done this already.

Is it a business reason? Or perhaps the complexity of bitcoin accounting creating potential issues?

What do you think?
Amazon is a huge website and reason why Amazon is not accepting Bitcoin is just because Bitcoin is not on that level yet. It is true that Bitcoin is becoming bigger and bigger but Amazon does not need Bitcoin. Amazon is already successful.

One reason why Amazon is not adopting bitcoin just yet is because it's not meeting the demand it needs to have on Amazon. The people using their platform just doesn't have any issues with fiat and does not demand bitcoin. If the people demands it, they will adopt. Or at least they probably would.

I assume them getting afraid of how to handle refund claims but they may implement built in escrow feature in their platform later on to start accepting bitcoin payments and easily handle refund claims just like they do with paypal transaction.

Why would anyone care whether Amazon accepts bitcoin or not, if we already have Purse.io?

My fear is that Purse will fold if Amazon ever does accept bitcoin. I've gotten hooked on saving 15-25% off whenever I need to get something from Amazon via Purse.

I dont think amazon need Bitcoin payments right now, amazon is big enough already and they dont mind loosing few orders which integrating Bitcoin could bring. So I guess not worth the effort, especially when you can use purse.io to buy amazon vouchers instead.

mainly because people would try and take advantage of the bitcoin price volatility and get products for cheaper. people would buy tons of stuff when the price is max. and amazon would be stuck with a low amount of btc.

You bet. I've heard Amazon have a team of 2500 people who monitor the alt section on here so they can add new coins before they go down the shitter.

Bitcoin is still a shady business to many people. They probably don't want to be remembered anything related to a "shady business".

We all know you can buy every kind of drugs with bitcoin like we also can do it by paying US Dollars but you gotta admit, we also like bitcoin because it is not a god damn government invention. We like it because it resembles "bittorrent". (name and use wise)

We like it because we don't wanna pay taxes. (at least, most of us)

That's why they don't like it.

What about Microsoft, Steam, Overstock and many others? They clearly don't believe that or care.

Among those companies, Micrsoft surprised me the most by accepting bitcoins. Steam is a geek company just like us, no surprises there Smiley I don't know much about overstock, in fact, i just heard it thanks to you.

Yeah those companies don't believe that "shady business" thing which is a good thing for bitcoin. I never denied that. But it is what it is. Many companies still don't like bitcoin.

Dell, Microsoft, Overstock, Steam. I wonder are huge Russian e-commencement sites are accepting BTCs? Non-Russian speaker here. I am unable to find out. Smiley

actually steam accepting bitcoin was so surprising to me. because they didn't suddenly decide to accept bitcoin overnight.

there has been so many requests from their users asking them to add bitcoin payment method and it took them a couple of years to finally accept it.

you can still find the topics on steamcommunity forums of people asking them to add bitcoin back in 2013 or even older.

The main reason behind not accepting bitcoin as a payment alternative is its dynamic price.

bitcoin price is changing every moment and it is hard for a company big like amazon, to take exact price for a product with this dynamic environment.

Also it is not good for the buyers because, they might end up paying more for a product. My suggestion is that, hold your bitcoin. Don't buy silly things using it.

What do you think?

Could have several reasons. The negative image of Bitcoin for instance.Or maybe they are waiting for a scaling solution.
Another possibility is they just could create their own coin or accept one the planned bankcoins.Sooner or later we will know in which direction amazon will go.

An amazoncoin or a bankcoin will never work, a closed centralised ledger with no real value other than that assigned by the organisation is not what people want.  They are probably holding fire until they see how this whole bitcoin thing pans out.

I am guessing gamers have kickass graphics card and computer systems for them to play games and they use their system to generate bitcoins when it was way easier in 2013. It's a natural progression for them. Hey, gamers probably hold a lot of bitcoins.

Perhaps they are afraid of bitcoins, the volatility of its price especially in my view, a small fall or rise can have serious consequences on their income, especially for a site like Amazon.
But if the Bitcoin grow, and they see that their competitors have accepted it, they probably will accept it.

Interesting question. I bought a lot of things from Amazon. I always use giftcards purchased using Bitcoin to shop at Amazon. Last year, in a thread similar to this, I said that Amazon.com should probably be accepting Bitcoin in the coming years. Well, I do really hope that what I said will be true. Paypal, Credit card or whatsoever payment method is just too bad for online merchants - at least from my perspective.

So sad! This profile does not appear as the #1 result (on anonymous) Google searches anymore.
