Thanks for the reply. I agree with your comment, this is
the headline in a major newspaper which is over 200 years old, probably on the day the genesis block was created. This may indicate to some the choice is non political.
However please consider all these three factors together:
1. The timing of the genesis block, so soon after the November 2008 financial crisis
2. The Times article referenced in the genesis block
3. The below comment from Satoshi in February 2009
The central bank must be trusted not to debase the currency, but the history of fiat currencies is full of breaches of that trust. Banks must be trusted to hold our money and transfer it electronically, but they lend it out in waves of credit bubbles with barely a fraction in reserve.1
Given these three facts combined, I think its reasonable to assume the project was at least partially inspired by a degree of economic and political objectives. Not that I am saying this is negative or positive.
