blockchain.info is one of the oldest bitcoin wallet, but now it is not secure enough. I saw some peoples was complained that they lost their money on blockchain.info. and blockchain has a new wallet now which is more worst then old one..
for a newbie safest wallet is electrum and multibit of course, but use all security methods to secure your wallet, add password for sure.
From what I know people who lost coins while using blockchain.info's wallet are the ones to blame. I never heard of any organized successful attack which needed up with coins being stolen from blockchain's wallet.
The scenario is always the same - usually user's machine is infected with malware, or hacker somewhat receive access to victims credentials then log in and transfers btc.

But with new version of blockchain wallet and 2FA implemented I think it will be much harder for thieves to steal your coins.

I am using both blockchain.info online wallet from start but i put much of my coin in electrum wallet as they store private key in our laptops rather than in their server.

Blockchain is understood about this problem, I'm certainly blockchain will make a step to increase their securities. we can't assume blockchain is not taken any steps on this incident. yeah, you're right with enabling 2FA I think it's will make a more secure on your wallet.

There's really no telling which of which are the 'safe' wallets because there's a tiny hole/bug that exists in each and every code that can be exploited. However, there are some that highly recommended because those 'holes/bugs' aren't easily found from them.

Blockchain.info - online wallet, never store more than you can bear to lose.
Multibit - standalone wallet, this wallet has a very good reputation and you can actually see it from other users' recommendation too.

The best wallet for a newbie is probably Coinbase.com (they are insured against theft from themselves and are also very reliable and secure).
Blockchain seems to be reported as less secure than Coinbase.
Bitcoin core clients have to download the 80GB blockchain, which is a painfully slow process that takes several dayseven with a good computer.

Coinbase also covers the transaction fees fom transactions so it is cheaper to send Bitcoin.

I think the Blockchain wallet is a very good starter wallet for novice users of Bitcoin. Actually they have revamped it and a new, updated version is available with a lot less clunkly, modern user interface. BitGo has a very minimalistic user interface as well and for me it is even more user-friendly than the Blockchain wallet. If you don't have a lot of coins at your disposal using online wallets doesn't present a threat to your money because they are as safe as they can be. Just don't keep any substantial amount of Bitcoins on the exchnages because they have a tendency to get hacked into. As for locally-based wallets on your machine or mobile device you could try any of the most popular wallets like Electrum or Mycelium they won't fail you whatsoever.

I would suggest getting Coins or bread wallet as they are very user friendly and ideal for a newbie to learn how wallets work. They both have a lot of options available that you can turn off if you want (so you don't do anything bad for your safety and your coins)and turn back on once you get alittle more advanced in their use.

I am reading the forum daily and am registered here a few days ago.
What do you people suggest for a safe wallet for a newbie, I am not that tech guy , just the average joe with computers.
I have read that Blockchain.info is one of the best wallets, but I have also read that there are a lot of other wallets that they call local wallets like Bitcoin core Multibit Electrum and Armory also phone wallets. Which is one you can sleep safe at night ?

It depends how much bitcoin you are planning on storing in those wallets, and what exactly you are looking for.

If you just want simplicity, I would recommend Coinbase and Xapo because they pay the transaction fees for you, and also they are simply like an online banking system with bitcoins. No technical experiences are necessary. If you have a bit of experience with bitcoin, try blockchain.info. It's safer than coinbase because you control your own keys.

I think using the exchange as a wallet is something risky. do not believe the third person. because man must have a bad side. I'm afraid they become scam and money missing

For the safest wallet, you will need to read a lot on Bitcoin security. For beginners, I'd recommend Multibit or Electrum. It is a desktop based wallet and as long as you keep your desktop and keys safe, you have no worries. If you would like something fast and can be used anywhere, I'd suggest you Mycelium. I've been using Mucelium for about two years now and I have never encounter any lost of wallets or coins.

So sad! This profile does not appear as the #1 result (on anonymous) Google searches anymore.

there is no such thing as "safest wallet". a wallet can be safe or unsafe depending on what you do for creating it. a paper wallet can even be unsafe if you for example download the code for making it from a malicious site. but in general any wallet that is created offline and stays offline can be the safest.

Breadwallet for IPHONE
Mycelium for ANDROID
Trezor for HARDWARE

Great list! I like breadwallet too. It is standalone which connects directly to the bitcoin network. NO server hassles. I would also recommend others on the list.  Smiley

Try using Xapo wallet, its very easy to use and many faucet and apps are affiliated with this wallet, Try faucet apps in xapo its better than the regular faucet site

If I may add, the other reason why Xapo is good for new users is because they have free transaction fees feature which would help new users to learn about sending btc around freely. Though Xapo help desk is quite poor (or so I heard, never had any issue with my account)

Other wallet I recommend for newbie (security reason aside) is ipayyou. Never tried this wallet so I have no idea about how safe this wallet is, but they said it has a cancellation feature which would helps newbie to familiarize himself with transferring coins and can cancel the transaction once the transaction goes south (like entering wrong address or wrong character).

I personally use electrum and blockchain.info of you want a online wallet then blockchain is the best but for more security electrum is better as the private key of your address remains only on your Pc. Other desktop wallets are also good, IMO the most secure wallet is bitcoin core.

i have been using electrum so far and i am very happy and satisfied with it specially with the small size (it being SPV wallet and all).

you can even use blockchain.info with 2fa and still be happy, although less secure.

For first learning about wallets can make you interested in it, next, you can see the various feature  offers to you, You can try to use bitcoin bitcoin wallet can make you interested. finally, you can assume and choose the best wallet for you. but choose only wallets to have a 2FA will make more secure for your money.

In my another perspective, the best wallets are online bitcoin and altcoin exchange websites. I have used sites like btc-e for keeping my BTC , though they charge a fee of 0.001 on each transaction, but at least I am safe Smiley

I think it's never safe to store bitcoin. let alone store in a third party? instead it will increase the risk of loss. because the human person may have a taste greedy and took all the money belongs to the user be careful with it. I think that is pretty secure is a desktop wallet. do not forget to add authentication

I would say that it depends on country where you live in.Here in philippines we all use coins ph wallet because of its reliability. It is a portable wallet which we can use to buy  steam cards, mol points, buying prepaid load and even encashing it to real money insantly. For me this is the safest wallet for us.Every bitcoin wallet is safe it will just have problem id the user will fail to protect his/her account
