in my view long term investment average is 1 year more but in every investment we should not look on a single viewpoint but rather look at the situation when the price has gone up a lot in less than 1 year, then you have to sell these investments to get a profit.

In traditional investments, long term is most often considered to be a minimum of 5 years. But bitcoin seems to live its life in hyper drive, hence the question to the bitcoin world, what is long term to the average bitcoin investor?

For me, long term buying is probably looking into the very long term future. If I was buying for long term, then I would be buying for when bitcoin becomes a global currency. And that's probably minimum half a decade.

But it seems like you're just promoting your site here.

i vote for 5 years or more.
because i am holding bitcoin until the future when bitcoin is popular. and i am not only waiting for temporary rises for a quick profit.
i am waiting for the day to come so that i can see the real benefit of using bitcoin everywhere in the world.

i think a couple of years is a good period for keeping bitcoin and considering it as a long term investment.

this couple of years can start with one or two years and keep on going to the longer time like 5 or 6 years. when things have changed for bitcoin and it is more adopted in the world so it has a higher price

Long term to me means to hold at least for 5 years!
2 years I see more as a mid term investment.
And everything under 1 year is short term orientated imo.

The people who invest for long term in bitcoins can get a lot of profit as the price always increase from time to time.

That's not even considered long term. In fact, that's actually considered short-term.
But everyone has it's preferences and just like you said, that much amount of time is used for trading purposes and actually, most traders use even shorter time like weeks, days, hours even.

I think now there is no any down fall to the bitcoin, so we can consider the same long term for bitcoin also which we use for other things, and because of halving in  this year I will say we can keep our money to more than 5 years in bitcoin without any fear.

Well most of us are long term holders right? The believers will hold for at least 3/4 years but to me 1 year seems good to re-analyse and even redistribute my ssets.

Long term investing in cryptocurrency is at least two years for me. I rather do short term. Bitcoin volatility is good for short term investment.

Of course, for many other investment instruments 5 years seem a reasonable long term, but in everything related to technology five years is actually an eternity. I think one year is really a long time talking about bitcoin speculation.

In my opinion and case 1 year is what long terms to me,the price of bitcoin is changing fast in just a span of one year although holding it for a long period of time is very profitable because all this years the price is upwards..

Yeah definitely. For me, long term points towards the extremely long term. When fiat currencies have collapsed and the world is in havoc. And bitcoin will come and save the day Tongue

At least 10 years before that happens though. 10 years is long term to me.

Just over 4 years I can say long term for bitcoin. I think that 4 years is enough for investment because of halving. If you watched the last halving I think you can understand. The rate of bitcoin was big difference between before and after of halving. This time also same thing might be happening and also we can expect bigger than that also.

For Satoshi we know he'd vote for at least 7 years  Wink.  At least for the majority of his stash.

Long term for average bitcoin investor is 1 - 6 month. We can see in comments how much people like to earn fast money. Long term investment needs to be more then 5 years, everything before that is fast in my opinion.

Satoshi is millionaire for long time already, so maybe he is aiming more higher, to be billionaire?
