one year is enough for us to hold our Bitcoin. You can sell it and start another holding process by buying Bitcoin when the price is cheap. Many people have succeeded with this way and I doubt that you can fail. Only hold Bitcoin in more than 5 years when you have a good capital.

Let's say you bought 1 BTC last january 2014, you would have paid around 620€. One year after, your BTC dropped to less than 200€, not a good deal !

Point is that you only lose when you sell your coins at a price lower than where you bought them at. If you don't sell you don't lose anything. If you know what you do, then in your given example the best option would be to use that €200 price to start buying as many coins as possible to average down the buying price of your initial investment. Only noobs cash out their coins with such insane losses as result....

At least 5+ years and also remember successful trades are not only holding but also buying regularly in order to smooth your potential losses.

This is a very long time, real long term period and it's very hard to predict how the bitcoin will stand in that period, anything is possible. One year is enough time to hold and make decent profit and it's much more easier to watch the situation and react if necessary. But it depends also how much coins do you have.
One year is not enough to get real profit because there is a lot to wait for the real income to come through. If you want real income then it is best to hodl your bitcoin and save some bitcoin as much as you can for 5 years of long term investment and saving and after that you can harvest your ripe investment and taste that great profit by just doing nothing except saving Roll Eyes.

In 2014 everybody knew bitcoin was going to go down all year, sorry but those who bought at 600+ in 2014 needed to do more research or hear their feelings before purchasing... even at 400 usd it looked still expensive to me.

geez its too long for me too hold bitcoin but i am sure it will give best result and will make us make big money, but i think if i can make it for at least in one or two years, then i will do for one or two years and i will save the other bitcoin for five year. i don't know if i can wait until five year or not because for now i don't have main job and only work with bitcoin but if i have other main job, then i am sure i can hold it in more than two years.

In bitcoin long term were at least above 2years. I won't prefer long term investment with bitcoin as their is no assurance of future happening. I make investment depending upon the price fluctuation taking place.
To me though bitcoin and crypto currencies as money is at its infancy compared to conventional fiat and bank system. 2 years long terms investment might not be realistic. The historical value of bitcoin shown continuous price upward movement from 2008 till date so to me anything from  five years upward like other assets is worthwhile.

Yes its very very long wait and you will need a long patience and strong discipline into yourself because if you dont have these traits you will sell off your bitcoin on shorter periods of time when the price tends to increase. Thats why long term and your patience would really be worth when price of it would come to its peak.

In traditional investments, long term is most often considered to be a minimum of 5 years. But bitcoin seems to live its life in hyper drive, hence the question to the bitcoin world, what is long term to the average bitcoin investor?

Investing bitcoin in long years is sure profit. Bitcoin is high up to 100% per year so if you invest it in 5 years your capital will be times to five,,

I think its evident enough that people who invested on a long term basis while bitcoins was still in the startup financing stage trading below $10 are now enjoying profits but if you are a daily trader you can still make more profit in a short time frame, though 5years is a long time to wait.

5 year investing time is too long for me so that will be enough. But that is for different investment not with bitcoin. Here I am buying and selling trying to enlarge the capital that I have deposited.
It started when I want to have more knowledge with it. Thinking there is real profit and have experienced it once I just continued it up until now, somehow it made profit. The losses will always be there also.

what do you mean by "startup financing stage"?! bitcoin never had something like that. I think you are comparing it with altcoins with ICO!
bitcoin was released and from day one was supposed to be used as a p2p digital cash first as it is mentioned in the white paper too. and it was released this way and everyone could use it and mine it from those days.

and also you don't have to be from those "early adopters" to make profit. you can still get in and make profit. I got in not so long ago and I have made a very good profit.

this is an example for some visual aid:

You really cannot predict the long term future of bitcoin .But looking at the distant future it is bright and the chances of another bubble and a bull is there and it all depends upon the current development and approval of ETF and if that is approved the price might peak to new levels .

Cryptocurrency or a blockchain is technology which is still in the beta mode so any activity or project associated with it should be considered as an experiment. Thus any investment is also a high-risk investment and as a rule of thumb, high risk gives high returns. Any investment irrespective of short term or long term is a high-risk investment when it comes to cryptocurrencies.

This refers only for the investors who buy bitcoin then hold it for a long terms it depends on them on how many years. But if you have a strong belief with it, you will surely get the reward of your fruit of labor someday.

Certainly, as you believe that the market would perform very well, it would certainly helps you to have a positive thinking which is the characteristic of a successful investors wether it is online or not.

A long term Bitcoin investment for me could be as little as 10 years or as long as 30 years or possibly more. In 30 years, if Bitcoin survives, it could be worth $50,000 to $100,000 per Bitcoin.

I would only invest long term in them because I believe that the opportunity for gain is far greater than the risk of loss in more of a long-term setting. It's a roller coaster of ups and downs in the short term. Just buy them and hold onto them for about 5-9 years (This is just my opinion because the algorithm that controls the supply is set to cut in half 3 times within the next 9 years)

Yes long term is always the best because of its opportunity since there is a halving event where it lessen the supply of bitcoin and help the price to be even more expensive than before. Buying a lot of bitcoin now is a good idea and not a loss because you can double or even triple that capital just after a few years of holding.

If indeed bitcoin can last up to 30 years surely it would be great. And if someone invests during it would be very profitable and will become rich. I do not know whether bitcoin could survive for it or not, but investment in bitcoin for 30 years maybe worth trying. It could be for retirement savings. But I think the average investor bitcoin does not invest during it, I think they are investing around 5 years like a investment in general. It was a good time I think.

But keep in mind that over 10 years, the prediction actually become like impossible. For the other thing, if it survives, the price between $10,000 and $50,000 would not be a surprise.
