Im interested to know how many people are actually now involved in the bitcoin world, Is there anyway to find out a rough idea of the user base so that we can come to a conclusion on what kind of adoption we are currently at? It seems difficult to gauge since this forum alone has several duplicate accounts from the same people.

. /r/bitcoin has 180k subs to it so would it be safe to assume if we included all miners, users holders and whoever else that we are still at under 1 million users? If this is the case then we still have a long way to go.

Does anyone have any more accurate guesses or way to determine the market?

Even in the event that an attacker gains more than 50% of the network's computational power, only transactions sent by the attacker could be reversed or double-spent. The network would not be destroyed.

I would say that the amount of people that use Bitcoin probably numbers among 1-2 million total, and yes, we do have a long way to go.

The thing is Bitcoin, as it is right now, is still too technical for a lot of people, and a lot of the things we find obvious or easy simply aren't easy or simple to a majority of other people. I know it sounds dumb, but that's how it is.

My theory is assume that 25% of /r/bitcoin users also use this board, and assume this board is ~30%-45% representative of the total population of Bitcoin (e.i. user number multiplied by ~0.75 to account for multiple accounts) and then assume it counts for ~40% of the entire count of users, multiply the numbers and get your answer.

I also pulled that theory out of my ass so no guarantee is means shit.

blockchain.info wallet claims they have over 7 million users, right on the wallet homepage.

As you already told, one person can have several accounts, but I believe it is safe to assume at least 3-5 million users tried Bitcoin for short amount of time. Coinbase has at least million accounts as well, and these are verified by government isued ID - so pretty much these numbers represents real people.

thats quite interesting to know, I never thought of coinbase or anything like that. If we are only at 3-5 million (higher than i thought which is good) then you could truly class anyone whos buying into bitcoin now as early adopters. All we need to do is spread the word and get properly mainstream, And hopefully with the rising price due to the halfning we get more tv spots on the news etc to push us that bit further forward. 2016 and 2017 might be more interesting than you'd think.

I think it is asked few months ago also and most of the members including me have answered no we can't even get data about total bitcoin address exist or created till now. So finding no of people involved in bitcoin is not possible.

Predicting depending upon the situation now, at least 60 to 70% of the people in this forum, would be holding their BTC for now. The value is really getting high. I am sure, looking at the price hike, you have posted this question. Compared to other years, the price is really up and being stable. More numbers in head, would peep into this forum very soon.

Your argument is flawed, if you base the total user count on forum membership. You see sock puppet newbie accounts popping up every day on all of these platforms, so it's in no way a indication of

what the adoption figures for Bitcoin is like. You should contact some of the regulated exchanges and ask them what their total user base looks like... they do publish figures now and again. These will

give you more accurate totals, because members of these exchanges have to verify their identity to adhere to KYC/AML regulations... So every member is linked to a true identity. This will be more

accurate than counting forum membership.  Roll Eyes

I have no idea but im sure im one of them  Cheesy  Seeing bitcoin value soaring high means there is a need to hold. Who knows maybe for the next quarter BTC might double in value.   So maybe I'll wait and watch when to sell my BTC.  (Yeah holders need to watch because bitcoin is still  volatile we don't know when it will crash so better updated!)

But it was a good theory  Grin agree with this, alot of exchange users don't use the forum, and there are also coinbase users that don't even know this forum exists. Basically, given the difficulties of Bitcoin for the average user, there are a lot of users that use the protocol without actually being involved in the ecosystem. Via hosted wallet services.

I also thought this but honestly this cannot be really measured in my eyes due to the fact that is just so difficult to see if you are asking.
Overall there are a lot of users but how many .. I really do not know.

according to me he user and holder of bitcoin in 2016 are more than any previous year. in 2016 the popularity of bitcoin is much more than previous years. more and more people are entering in the world of bitcoin. they are now understanding the reality of bitcoin. most of the people are now investing their flat money in the bitcoin. i am sure that after halving if price of bitcoin remain constant, bitcoin will become the kind of the crypto currencies.

By what time? I hope you realize that it's halfway through 2016 already. Roll Eyes

I also pulled that theory out of my ass so no guarantee is means shit.

No one can predict the future, so it's likely that yours is as good as the next. However, assuming that 75% of this forum's userbase accounts for the people that use it is probably stretching it, taking people with multiple accounts (as in 4+) and accounts created by bots in consideration. I'd say it's more like 40%, if that. Also, I doubt that 30-40% of bitcoin users use this forum.

But other than that, it sounds solid. Smiley

it's very hard to know the actual number of people who use bitcoin. if you track all btc address it won't be accurate because one man use more than one wallet. if you can track all IP you will know but it's very difficult to do. but, as long I know and found on Google In 2016 survey found more than 100million of people use bitcoin.
