Most are out of the stock. It seems the RX 480 is very popular. That could make the mining difficulty rise again.

Running a test rig with 1 Sapphire RX 480 8 GB connected directly to H81 BTC Pro motherboard w/o any Molex to the MB. It's been stable at 28.5 MH/s at 2300 MHz memory clock for over 24 hours, no external fan. Rest of the controls are grayed, perhaps a new version will allow undervolting. Noise wise it is not more than 390 running at 70-80% fan speed. It is going to a 6 Sapphire 8 GB rig once I build a wooden frame. GPU only power usage 170-175 watts at the wall, I am sure it will be better when I use quality PSU. Running Claymore's miner in ETH only mode.

Hardware: Sapphire RX 480 8 GB, H81 BTC Pro MB, 4 GB RAM, Celeron G1840, Win 10 pro, using a spare 1000 watt Antec Gold PSU.

I spent several hours yesterday installing Linux and then the AMD driver; then Windows 10 and the AMD driver both of which continued to fail.

Eventually I plugged one 480 directly into the mobo and found it to work correctly.  Hopefully the July 5th driver will enable more power from the pcie.

I just got my second 480 to work with a riser by plugging my PSU molex directly into it.  (You must have a riser that has an actual molex connector to do this)

Hope this saves some members from making the same mistake.

here is a set of photos with me trying sapphire trixx on an r9 390

1 r9 390  and the rig pulls 216 watts   the rig drops to 32-34 watts  once I turn the mining off so  182-184 is for mining

I am impressed with sapphire trixx

I am doing a -163mv  undervolt

tiny gpu overclock 1023 vs stock 1015

memory  1000MHz which reads as 4000MHz

fan at 40%

gpu temps are 61c  and vrm = 73c

quiet    pulling 25.9   hash rate

i thought this was a 480 thread? anyeays ive never seen an undervolt that low
hard to belive thats stable

Feel free to throw your money to new gpus. Just trying to help fellow mners.

throw my money ? you mean spend my eth mining profits and the 15k i got from parting out all my 390s and 280x
390s mining at 25mh is a waste when a 480 mines at 27 uses less power and costs 30% less

Yeah I am surprised its stable with that undervolt. Its almost like an rx 480 pretty much.

Well I had   nine     390's  this was the best one. it is in an open rig and quiet enough to watch tv fans a7 40% keep it cool enough.

And the 212 total watts of  heat keeps the den a little warmer.  it is usually too cool in the summer due to ac.

What I like about eth is I am fully roi'd . this rig earns 68.50 bucks per month before power  my summer power is really high 18 cents. I spend 28.50 in power

So I net  40 dollars  with little or no sound and just the right amount of heat.

I will be adding the 4  480's over the next 2 weeks.  but I have to say I love running this r9 390 as a time filler for now.

Still running for about 12 hours.

I need to do a caveat  about pc's  .

 I have an
iPad  forgot the os  but it is a mini three with and older os
 3 mac minis  last 3 os's
an i5 intel tablet window 10
 a lap top windows 7
a linux pc
2 rasp pi's
6 pc's ready for video cards
parts for at least 2 more pc's.

so when I run a pc it does one thing mine on windows 7 with under volt and under clock this makes very stable cards that don't burn die or crash much.  keeps heat and noise down and less work gpu mining. I also use better cpu's  model t's when I can find them.

i-5 2500t
i-7 3770t
i-5 6400t
i-5 6500t
i-5 6600t
all good low power cpus.

others go for  a few  6 card  rigs  that pushes the limits  that can be okay and work out.  but at 59 years old I just say  fuck it my way at least feels a bit easier.

LOL I totally hear you there.  The rig I build on Windows 7 stole about 30 hours of my time to get it to recognize all the cards and to hash.  Of course I ran a Windows update and it was all over but the memories.  It would only recognize 2 of the 5 cards and sometimes wouldn't boot up at all.  Eventually gave up and went with Ubuntu and that took me another 30 hours or so to get that going right and knock on wood that system is running stable now.  Not optimal, but at least it is hashing away.
