0.5 btc is a decent amount as JJ said--I would definitely not risk that much trading shitcoins or even speculating on the price of bitcoin.  I'd buy and hold, but there are many different birds in the forest.  One of the great things about these exchanges, like Yobit and Poloniex is that you can start really, really small.  Like a few cents is all you need.  Try doing that in the stock market with $10 or more commissions for each buy or sell order.  Forget it.

So anyway, good luck.  But as others have said, trading anything crypto is super risky.  Be careful.

I will be using LocalBitcoins, if I have 0.5 BTC I can sell up to 85% of that in my own advert then the rest on another person's advert. Is there a way to make a profit this way? Or is 0.5 simply not enough to start with?
I think 0.5 BTC is not enough if you wanna trade on localbitcoin, because you will trade bitcoin to fiat money only, need much time until there are people trade with you and velocity of money is slow. I think if you wanna still trade on localbitcoin you need 5-10 BTC minimum.

I think 0.5 is much enough for starting trade at there, if there are problems with local bitcoins then he should have to try some other exchanges for selling and buying bitcoins with fiat and altcoins, one of my friend has started with about less than 0.10, and he is successful with that.
You must share more informations about  your friend who has be successful trade on localbitcoin with capital less than 0.1 BTC, are like payment method who be used, management of fees, how much rolling money every days or weeks with capital 0.1 BTC only, it will become more helping for the OP and another else too.

best advice for stay in market and make profit in long time, is to use maximum 2% per trade (open position) of total trade amount . And is possible to trade stocks, indices, gold, oil, without commision. you can use link in my signature.
( beginers trade with extreme cautions with leverage )
at first place, Patience
second place, Patience and learning and research
...
...
99 place is Patience and learning and research
for trading is essential to understand MA, MACD, trend, reading charts, volume, etc...

Yep another good thing you can have profit in just a minute in any exchanges if you know how to use carefully the short term strategy. If you can find better coin you can hold it for long term and earn for it morethan double but make sure that's the coin have a potential before hold it for long term.

The best minimum amount to start with ,is whatever you have . no amount is too little though a large amount means big profits ( if u win the trade). Its also good to start somewhere. i started with 0.1 BTC, i'm well over 2 BTC in just a month. Also it depends which coins u trading  and your strategy

I think the minimum amount to start trade is 0.0001, as I am doing trade on yobit and there I can use a minimum of 0.0001 for buying and selling any of the available coins. but the bot can trade with a more lower price, I don't know that these are from users or from the site itself.

More realistically... the starting sum depends entirely on what you are trading. Not sure if you can spreadbet in your country, but you can start spreadbetting with an equivalent of  $200r. You can also trade FX with these kind of amounts. You won't get the kind of money you are after from this though! Not for a long time, and that's assuming you are good! In your first year you should be aiming to just not lose too much. At the beginning, survival is the key. In order to survive you need to be able to withstand a string of losses. Hence, although you can start with $200, i'd recommend at least $1500. And take that as a training fee- don't expect to make money.

I think 0.001 is enough to start trading. The Poloniex has a limit of 0.0001. So you can start trading in the Poloniex.

To that amount I will not call it as a minimum amount for the trade but it is a bigger amount for starting trade you can invest them in some good assets and can earn some good amount, but take care while investing as there are a lot of scam coins also on exchanges.

I think that it is the amount of 0.5 BTC very much for a beginner. I think, if you really want to play trading, you can start with $ 1 or BTC is equivalent to that amount, and then you just need to work hard to figure out all of the system

I think 0.5 is a decent begin and i think you can make an expansive benefit with that sum .. neighborhood bitcoins is one of the business sector that you can offer your bitcoins individual to individual..

You can likewise utilize it for altcoin to exchange. to make more benefit

Don't worry 0.5BTC is enough to start trading bitcoin to fiat or also altcoins to bitcoins.

I consider more stable trading fiat to bitcoin and vise versa because the price is more stable comparing with the altcoins which the price or will go much higher or much lower.

By the time you will understand the concept of trading and tips and tricks, and gradually increase the amount of bitcoin and you will get good profit.

It is more than enough to start trading.  but make sure that you know the basic of tradings, the do's and don'ts of it.  Trading isn't as easy as saying buy low sell high, there are lots of factor to consider especially when reading the troll box.  Lots of information there are misleading and they are doing it for their own benefit.
