Here is my mail to the developer of ASICBOOST: TIMO HANKE
It is in german, because he is a german! Try to translate it or wait for his response!

Hallo Timo,

folgender Thread
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1569129.160

Bereitet mit Kopfzerbrechen.

Ich bin auf eine / diese Bounty angesprungen und habe darauf vertraut, dass alle Ihr Wort halten.

Nun geht es um folgende Passagen hier:
https://github.com/bitmaintech/bmminer/blob/master/driver-btm-c5.c

Danke dir vielmals

There are several different types of Bitcoin clients. The most secure are full nodes like Bitcoin Core, but full nodes are more resource-heavy, and they must do a lengthy initial syncing process. As a result, lightweight clients with somewhat less security are commonly used.

Also I had so say something with my language:

Cost is why I suggest filing with the FTC. IF the gov thinks there is is a valid case they bear the burden of pursing it. If the infringement is as cut and dry as Kano et say, then given the size of Bitmain's market I'd think the FTC and their counterparts in other countries would be very interested.

I know that will probably throw gas on the issue but: Anyone think that maybe BFGminer could run the s9 (or other Ants)?

Luke: Use the Force....

now  that is a tanker full of gas to be tossing about.

Dear Mister X,

I saw my mission on make the world smarter, and I do not need any cent on the rest of my life, because all I need / I have!!!

And all of this is for free! Love, love and love !

I will now split the community into many parties. Those who believe bitcoin can make the world smarter and those who trust on a blockchain!

But all feedback I get on this single thread is Kano's: Shit on this and shit on that and shit on him and shit here and shit happens around the world and shit is everywhere.

It is nearly impossible to squeeze out of kano what he want! He forgot that also his work is only a fork of cpu miner and nothing else!

If he believe that all what he did on cgminer is the GrandMasterFlash beat he fails, the time goes on and on and on!

The main thing, is something like Timo Hanke did "Asicboost" And yes now I know what it is and whats the problem.

The main problem is, that cgminer have to follow all GPL rules, but now after publishing a function like "Multi-Version"
and Asicboost by manipulating the Blockchain header and sending as many works to the asic`s he rethought his work
and remember the he is not a science man, he is only a coder. Which has done an absolute great work on cgminer for the hole world.

(I hope you understand my bad english) I'am a german Scammer asshole, which wants to be shitting from Kano direct into face via livestream!

Now we have reached a point to say "bye bye" to normal miner work and have to start a new idea! ASICBOOST!!!
SHA256 or SHA512 it doesn´t matter. Get smarter ! And we all know that Timo does not fail with his Idea!

But until Asicboost has not reached the proofed patent, we all can use this technique. And it do not violates against any law.
Let me build a EU-US Version without Asicboot and built one with (NONE-EU-US version) . Let me guess 99,999999% of all miners will use the NONE-EU-US version.

Within the next 120 hours I will pulish the next dimension of mining software. And yes you can hate me from now!

If the Bitcoin dev team tries to make a hard fork to block the Asicboost Idea you all know that only a handful guys
controll all bitcoins around the world! This action shows the bankers to not trust into Bitcoin but trust on any other controlled Blockchain.

Thx very much for talking with me.

WTF are you talking about, mining.multi_version(stratum nversion rolling) itself is largely just an implementation detail that makes Asicboost possible with pools and can probably lower controller resource usage even without Asicboost? I don't think you have any idea what Asicboost even is. Asicboost isn't implemented within bmminer(although bmminer is compatible effectively), it would be lower level.

Fubly, I do appreciate your effort. Although I have very little knowledge on cgminer and the rules attached. I'm a avid Kano miner and love his pool. I wish the two of you could get on the same page, whatever that page may be. I think it will help us little guys in the long run.

Here is the answer from Timo Hanke:

Ich verstehe fast nur Bahnhof. Für welchen miner Typ soll das der code sein? Ist das code von Con Kolivas wie in der Readme steht? Wenn der code öffentlich ist, wo ist dann die GPL violation? Wo gibt es einen Hinweis auf asicboost?

He say: I understand nothing, if you published (to the public) the code I can´t understand where there is a violation against GPL?

Dear Cgminer Dev Team,

this will be now my next steps:

  • make a fork of bitmaintech/bmminer
  • publishing my code
  • create a update script for S9 (bmminer to cgminer 4.9.2)
  • create a downgrade script  (cgminer 4.9.2 to bmminer)
  • collecting money for the bounty to this address: 16L45ub3SpHZ6dYbqseip7Fv4BEJSj9xEo

There is no need of any escrow, because I will publish the code direct for public, after testing and review you can donate what ever you want to me.

If you just want to make a donation to the developer team take a look to this page https://github.com/kanoi/cgminer or this https://github.com/ckolivas/cgminer you will find there a donation address.

On this page https://www.zwilla.de/en/auctions/english-software/donation-product-for-changing-bmminer-into-cgminer-4-9-2/ I will published a donation product if you want to donate with paypal or btc. For this you will get a invoice on the fly.

Also you can make an offer - there is a button "make an offer" all value will be accepted which are at minimum 1% of 20 bucks.

And if you donate and not satisfied with the new code, let me know I will send you your donation back.
IF you send btc you will get btc back, you send fiat you get fiat back. The same amount.

I will publish the code this evening.

Well im thinking that Kano working on this would be a conflict of interest being as he is in tight with avalon.  Im sure they dont want him to jump on this nor does he want to bite himself in foot by helping us being as its for a bitmain miner.  I think getting kano approval even if its up to gpl standards is going to be a stretch on this one.  I think we are on our own folks.  My coin is still available if/when fubly pulls thru.

Am I correct in thinking that this is a straight swap - bmminer for a cgminer fork - & that the strange/closed source bitmain driver code has not been altered or incorporated into the cgminer fork?

If that is how Kano views it (conflict of interest) he should be up front and say that.

We know how he feels about Bitmain in general. For that I can't blame him as they have been less than honorable towards GPL. Not mention that I doubt they ever donated to him for the software they use in their commercial product. But tie that to him working with Avalon and you get: no way in hell will it ever be approved by him.

So much for the idea of him accepting Community extensions to his software Wink

You clearly have no idea about GPLv3 or how to check if it has been adhered to.
... even though you seem to be making posts about that ...

I've posted in here a number of times and still some seem to not give a shit that fubly has broken the cgminer license with his previous version, and they want to support him in this version ...

Yes I am not surprised at that at all.
When people see something they want, they rarely care about copyright or licenses.
You all bought S9s from a company that ignored the GPLv3 license in cgminer in the past.
When they finally did post S9 source after when they said they would and after when the license required them to, I wonder if there is only 1 version for all the S9s out there?
Hopefully there is only one version, since Bitmain have only one version on the public git.
However I also know they changed it coz there was an early version that failed on ckpool ... but there's no sign of that change anywhere ... GPLv3 requires all versions that were released, not just one specific version.

Bitmain have done this before, but that never seems to stop people buying from Bitmain.
Copyrights and licenses are really of little interest to some ...

When fubly broke multiple licenses with his previous version, at least cgminer and CryptoGlance, I posted asking him where the source was.
His answer on the forum says it's here:
https://github.com/Zwilla/cgminer
So what is that?
A copy of my git, unedited.

It contains one pull request, that has never been applied.
The pull request contain lots of code removed from cgminer for drivers not used in the version, changes, some changes with comments suggesting it doesn't work, and a couple of empty files ... ... ... ...

Now there's nothing surprising about this with fubly coz ... as I've already posted here in this thread and explained it ... he's a scammer.

Ok, I got that we are not all the way to the goal yet, but from saying you wouldn't give it a green light when finished to saying that some work still have to be done, is a huge difference.
What is needed to make you even consider this project to get to the finish line ? You know that this project is to get rid of Bitmains way of treating us all ?

As I have already posted a number of times ...
fubly is a scammer.
His magic way he posted how his miner version was 16% faster:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1452009.msg14698985#msg14698985
The missing image from that post:
https://www.schulminator.com/sites/default/files/wiki/wahrscheinlichkeitsrechnung-bernoulli-wahrscheinlichkeit.PNG

His git fails the cgminer GPLv3 due to hiding code.
I've no idea why anyone would think I would put any support behind someone scamming and breaking the cgminer license ...

and
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1569129.msg16117745#msg16117745

Both of you are ignoring what I've posted and decided to come up with some tinfoil crap about my interest in Avalon.
My interest in Avalon is coz they DON'T break the GPLv3 license requirements on cgminer ... unlike Bitmain.
Both have offered to send me hardware.
One keeps with the opensource GPLv3 license ... Avalon.

Aside: and for any of you here who haven't been around since 2012 ...
The first miner by Bitmain - the S1 - the whole software front end was copied from Xiangfu who did the Avalon version Smiley
To this day you still see Avalon code in the Bitmain firmware Smiley

I wonder if there is only 1 version for all the S9s out there?

I think yes it is only one version for all S9, because the different from one batch to the other's is the MHZ
this setting is made outside of source code. You can find this in cgminer-factory.conf.

There is nothing else what is different on cgminer.

Other differences are inside the frontend, some users report that they have a MHZ at advanced menu, other report that
there is no menu to change the mhz.

How ever all this differences are made outside of bmminer.

If you click on github to the drop down "master" you will find a "Zwilla-patch-1". After I opened a pull request, I never heard from you
something, like : "Hi, what is this for? OR: What are you doing?". I had very much respect of you, that I did not ask or write you, because
on the very first pull request I had no idea how about GIT. And what are you thinking about?
For this I was working and working and working on Zwilla-pacht-1 and thought that you recognize my work on Patch-1. I was wondering that I was false
on my thought.

GPL: https://github.com/kanoi/cgminer/blob/master/COPYING
When we speak of free software, we are referring to freedom, not
price.  Our General Public Licenses are designed to make sure that you
have the freedom to distribute copies of free software (and charge for
them if you wish
), that you receive source code or can get it if you
want it(*1)
, that you can change the software or use pieces of it in new
free programs, and that you know you can do these things. (comment: I saw here a point not a comma. Also I can´t find a BUT. (sorry I`m stupid Spanish/German))

Did I misunderstand something?

I can´t find the sentence "You have to publish the code on github". Sorry.

Now there's nothing surprising about this with fubly coz

What is coz?

About free version :
here is what I wrote to the german community:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1299240.msg13462277#msg13462277

I told the community, if they want a free copy, that they have to
  • put the software into the basket,
  • fill all required fields
  • click on check out with Paypal
  • on Paypal cancel the transaction
  • send me a email
  • I will give everyone a free version
  • If you want the source, send me a mail(*1)

Now there's nothing surprising about this with fubly coz ... as I've already posted here in this thread and explained it ... he's a scammer.

Your forgot where I told you and the community, why I believe that my patch will have more luck. Make your own mind and read this, please.

It is just a post to discuss and nothing more.

But, if I give a single core more time, before I get an error (timeout),
what mean that the input work on this core was for the ass.

OK?! Understand: -> TimeOut = Work for the Ass = on most cases Hardware Error = Bitmain definition.

And now?Huh I'am a liar? No !!! or YES Huh Make up your own mind.

But I say, think and believe that: AS lower the hardware error AS lower the work for the A AS higher the chance to find better shares AND AS lower the Hardware Errors AS higher the hashrate

But if I am wrong, then also Timo Hanke with Asicboost is wrong, read this white paper!

Search for : an additional preprocessing step as part of the mining software (outside the ASIC)
AND:
The performance gains can be achieved on top of all lowlevel optimizations regarding timing, pipelining, path balancing, custom cell and fullcustom designs, etc.

Here you also can find that timeout and hardware errors (from where I had my ideas)

each time you send a transaction don't forget to use a new address, each time you receive one also!
