Danger when buying/selling BTC in person

So i was reading an article about someone who got robbed when he tried to buy in person 28000$ of Bitcoin

Personally i avoid dealings like this cause it is not easy to trust a random stranger.
How about you?do you buy or sell bitcoins in person?If yes have you ever had any bad experiences?

I've never sold or bought bitcoin's in person via LocalBitcoins or similar but if I was going to I certainly wouldn't do it all in one lump like that. Selling $28,000 worth face to face in one go is asking to be mugged.

I'd rather do multiple smaller face to face sales to avoid the chance of something like this happening.

I think it would not be so risky to sell/buy bitcoins in person if you choose a safe spot to make the deal.
The safest place for such a deal I could think of would be... a police station. Chances of being robbed inside there are low I guess.
I'm sure some nice policemen would let make the trade inside theit station. To protect and to serve is their motto. In this case they could do both.
If the other party would not agree to that, I would not make the deal.

Yeah, if indeed they are someone who is not yet known, so better do a deal which could make you feel safe. As an example of this is what you say. This is indeed something that is dangerous, but if we think well and not rash then it will not make a bad thing for you

Yeah i wouldnt handle in real life because you never know who you will meet most of the time. And handling bitcoins is handling money, and what does money attract? Criminals!

There are risk in both, when you do transaction by meeting the person you dont know there is going to be set up and its very dangerous to bring so many cash, doing in transaction online can be dangerous because if you got scammed it will really hard to track the person
but you can set up a safe place to do transaction, a mall or place near police station or somewhere near bank where they have cctv, so i think it is safer to do transaction by person

I agree but  it is much more better to be scammed but sound and safe than being robbed where there is a possibility that you will be harm.  But as far as i know bitcoin exchanger especially those reputable one will sure to deliver, even removes you of the many risk of carrying money around and get the attention of the bad guy.

There are always exchanges to exchange your coins for cash. If you care such a lot regarding anonymity that you go doing person to person sale, after you get the coins from the exchange immediately mix them in the best mixing services like Bitmixer or Cryptomixer. If you get cash just withdraw them to your bank account or credit card, you are not commiting any crime by selling bitcoins. Its really becoming dangerous selling in person to person , anyway for such sales its advisable well known coffee shops, restaurants and such which are always populated.

After the recent BitFinex hack I think next time I sell I'd rather do it in person, I trust my ability to look after myself in real life more than an exchanges ability to protect my coins. 

As long as you are smart and do it where there are any known people, you will be fine. I am sure often times both parties are scared for no reason and usually the transaction goes fine. But, that is not the case all the time. There are intentional robbers who might cheat you in many ways. Taking all necessary step are more important when meeting a stranger.

Be very careful if you meet someone you don't know. 
Pretend the BTC is cash, because it basically is. 
You are telling someone you don't know to come meet you, and that you will have money with you. 
I see stories on the news every week or two about someone getting robbed meeting someone to sell an Xbox, PlayStation etc.

There is some danger I have to say, You are going with money to meet a stranger "regardless of you are carrying USD or BTC", I suppose it's a must to meet in a public place like a bank or a popular store, There I think the risk should be minimum.

Right, to avoid any problem you must set a place where there are many people that you can turn on to just incase or have someone that will accompany you in transactions you'll going to do. its better to be careful nowadays because you dont know what kind of person they are.

it's much better if you take someone with you instead of relying on people in busy places to help you. people nowadays are just looking when something is happening to an other person. they either don't dare to help, or simply aren't interested. if you take someone you know with you, it's always better. because you know for sure you will get helped.

There are a few dangers with buying/selling BTC in person, and most of them are related to someone attempting to rob you or whatever when the transaction takes place, so offer to meet them at a police station or a public place and if they aren't interested in making the transaction there then don't do it, simply as that. Just have other bodies around you that can either be witnesses or helpers in case anything goes wrong. If the guy is legit he shouldn't have an issue with any of those things.

Yes no matter how small the transaction is do not ever take any chance to turn bad always use precautions and alwayd be alert

That is very dangerous to do trade with strangers so that is the reason I never buy/sell from unknown person, BTCitcoin has no charge back and that why it could be very risky to send amount first to strangers in this kind of trade, we have a lot of trusted source to buy with more safety features for our money.

It is very bad news, and the more bad is that the person without getting any knowledge started to hand over his money to someone else for buying bitcoins from him, as he can easily get with that amount from any trusted exchange, I personally do not like in person exchange.

Please, there are a many ways for avoiding getting robbed in the f2f transaction, make sure you are meet in the police station I think you will never get robbed. LOL
But in my minds, you're just making a troll because in this time is the era of technologies.

I have my personal btc dealer who is too honest gu, if I ever say something which is not legal then he will take me to right path you can imagine that my dealer can't cheat me.I just trust him more than girlfriend because he always shows me right direction in life.

You have to be very careful when dealing with other people especially with the stranger one. I avoid to trade with other people and I prefer to buy and sell my cryptocurrencies through an exchanger. But, even I do it via exchanger the chance to get robbed is still exist.

Yes it can be a danger if you do not know the person who buying/ selling btc because sometimes they can scam you. I experience that when i buy btc in one person in the fb he said that i pay it first then i sent the money then after i transfer the money he block me in his fb account. Nothing i can do my money is gone.
