Part 2? Here's an address:
1HTKMvmC2qS8cPsaHYUyzahtUEUELc7fw5
This makes me feel that this giveaway is legit!
Just because a staff member left an address in the giveaway that does not mean that it is legit. We can't really know whether anyone is going to actually get 1000 BTC and whether that user isn't an alt of OP (unless it is someone that is already known/trusted). What we do know is that:
1) OP is the owner of that address.
2) OP has given away some BTC to a few people via IRC.

we can expect a lot of puppet and alts participating, same even if he randomly select an address.

He didn't claim any participation restrictions but who says he won't filter it out. There has to be at least a few people with at least several hundred alts to their name.

If I were to win any of those funds i'd mix the shit out of it and slow bleed it into cash over a 10 or 20 year time span. Probably live on the reservation for a while too.

True. But for much smaller amounts, people usually ask for escrow. Considering this guy easily throws away $16k in Bitcoin, I am willing to give him the benefit of the doubt here.

I guess the 3rd option is the most likely to happen, so I don't either join the giveaway.

This Thing is crazy!

Why would someone giveaway 1000btc... is a monster amount.

I'm really curious to see how this is going to end.

I'm not sure if i'll post one of my address.... I still need to think about.

Anyway, goodluck everybody.  Smiley

His e-mail on slack is: ethereumdefense@yandex.com

So the plot thickens.. Is this hacker an Ethereum Maximalist trying to destroy Bitcoin?

Let me guess, next thing the Ethereum Maximalists are going to hard fork Bitcoin with all hacks/thieves addresses blacklisted and pump all their ETH into BBTC (Bailout-Bitcoin) to pump the price and hurt the Bitcoin price?! Damn Ethereum Maximalists.

This might be true !

He means to say the guy who is giving away 1000 bitcoins in other thread might be a hacker of bitfinex and hence he is holding such giveaway where he posts any other entry with his shill account and then declare it as winner Doing so will remove any pressure from him as he can simply tell others that he got the 1000 btc from giveaway

great idea op ! this might be true

So, TradeFortress is trolling.

Well, if I had a shitload of coins I might have some fun like this also. Cheesy

Most probably yes, but he sent ~30 btc to some users (also 2 bitcointalk.org mods that didn't post their btc address).

Well, he still owes me 0.4 BTC from a signature campaign advertising imputs.io. Cheesy

Yes, I remember he was quite fair and generous with his dealings here in the forums.

So you also think he is TF, right ?

What makes you sure that TF =! bitfinex_hack

Well, there's 0 evidence that TF is involved in BFX hack, I think it's more probable that he is the one trolling with the giveaway than the guy who hacked bitfinex wants to give 1000 bitcoins that he already had and not connected with this theft.

1) The coins come from a 2013 address, not linked at all with Bitfinex. SOURCE
2) That address is very probably linked with the inputs.io scam/hack. SOURCE
3) The person who declared the giveaway will post an address himself and send the money to that address
4) He will then be able to claim he got the money from a giveaway and not from hacking/scamming

EDIT: in case it's not clear I'm speculating on what's happening in this post.

Very interesting thoughts.
Of course, everybody will post the address there because there's nothing to lose and there's still a tiny chance that somebody with too much money (legit or not) wants to make a random guy happy.
I still fail to understand the ones that keep making new accounts to join that giveaway, anybody will reject them anyway.

However, it's good test on the forum software, let's see how big the thread will become and how it's going to be handled Smiley

we can expect a lot of puppet and alts participating, same even if he randomly select an address.

He didn't claim any participation restrictions but who says he won't filter it out.

Not having such a restriction is necessary for him to get more participants in the thread so it becomes next to impossible to spot his alt as well as gives him the ability to claim the prize with a low rank account / makes it appear more legit if he claims the prize with a high rank account.

This is also why he won't be splitting the prize among more than one winner.

What if he is only trolling us? I know he already sent 30 btc to be more credible (10 to a burn btc address) the remaining to some users- and 2 bitcointalk.org mods

I for one think it was a good idea to start this thread so to get the bottom of this mastermind's giveaway if it even has any substance at all!  Undecided

Posting any question on the giveaway thread does not bode any results because it just gets bumped off in a matter of minutes. The post count on there is now 37k from mostly brand new accounts and alts.  The membership of this forum probably rose 25% in the last 16 hours that this giveaway has started.
So let all the experts here put their great minds together and figure this out and in one week we will get our answer and debunk any doubters if this is fact true, which we are all here to figure out in this thread. Smiley

Could be. Grin He sure is enjoying it. Smiley

We are apparently discussing the logical motive behind the giveaway.
If I had 1000 BTC to giveaway, this is not what I would do. This makes it very likely that there is a different motive behind it.

There are many possibilities, which only makes it appear more convincing.

so it becomes next to impossible to spot his alt...

Once the prize is sent, we'd know who the alt is. (what was I thinking when I posted that?!)

What I meant is, you know the difference if the thread gets only 1 reply versus the thread gets 10000 replies. As well as the fewer replies, the less convincing it is.

The membership of this forum probably rose 25% in the last 16 hours that this giveaway has started.

 Shocked

Edit: lol just noticed the 'probably'

Why would that matter to him? Turning stolen bitcoins into "stolen but donated" bitcoins doesn't make it more legit to use, right?

There is a plot twist:
I see many repeated messages, and I think this is should be honest lottery so I decide that the winner will be selected from Addresses who sent 0.001 btc  to this Address: 1FvCk1jTsy7AvmnpeKnrfHSJnfX7om7fNM
So after throwing away 30 Bitcoin he's now asking for money? This makes it even easier to apply a lot of times.

Or did the rekcah's account get "kcah"ed?

So far he has collected 9 22 34 70 103 173 198 258 264 360 526 bucks.

Let me speculate a bit Cheesy
If I get arrested / blackmailed / murdered , then this signed raw transaction will send 1000 BTC to 1BitcoinEaterAddressDontSendf59kuE

This tx will be valid at block 425000

Code:
01000000010b05fdf5fe9dd5c1edc0c37bbd939d6a96dacccea398cdf9aae873c62b583ecc010000008a47304402204506f42bc2ed8920e719c7f5da77f01c81dfa0e0873869d9be067af12706f00602206967c1018bd33528e73438c13ac2664eec7c7e1d6a743652ec96681897017f25014104c5eb97c372d1666166497a9f8937c7f351fe679977e0b04ff304596a4f1f984c95b1458fec741e1b414dc5c3a6adb6c75fc4a370952d08e59197e94e7eced185000000000100e87648170000001976a914759d6677091e973b9e9d99f19c68fbf43e3f05f988ac287c0600
What if the real rekcahxfb is gone? He listed it as a possibility. His Bitcointalk-account got taken, but the guy himself is gone. That means we are 1332 blocks (just over 9 days) away from transmitting this transaction, effectively destroying 1000 Bitcoins. Assuming this transaction works on his address, I don't fully understand the decoded text.

If this happens, he'll be a mystery forever!

Is the hacker.. hacked?

1. Password change.
2. His English skills seem to be terrible now.
3. Asking 0.001 entry money.

Do not trust. At minimum he should sign a message with previous address. And still I would question his intentions

Left negative trust for now.

Very strange plot twist.

TBH if he signs messages from 1BfxSux... addy again, I might remove negative trust. In the end if people want to join this very risky "lottery", that is their own choice. But those 3 "changes" do seem really strange indeed.

edit: TBH I really think he used some throwaway password and got hacked.

Quote
Deductive reasoning suggests that you're more likely to hear it from bitfinex than the attacker because the attacker doesn't want to tell bfx anything it doesn't know, or help them expedite their investigation While bfx wouldn't want to shrae their hand to the attacker, they face brand repercussions the less information they disclose.
Yesterday in Slack he was saying things like above.. which seems like pretty good English to me. But now he talks like this:
Random select 1 address from unique addresses list.
Really? Nah.

Also on Slack:
Quote
I have not provided any evidence I am the bitfinex hacker. Please do not trust random people. Even if they throw around a thousand BTC.
There are scammers already and there will be more. I will NEVER ask you for money.

How did you link it with inputs.io hack?

The originating address (13tikBdmMVkyuykDVNmv3tTr8YkVN3Xrut) has been linked to TradeFortress multiple times in the past. Search the forum for it.
