Yes, bitcoin is the new era of currency, its the future. Bitcoin was the first, as time passes by the technology will improve and people all over the world will start accepting it. Right now there are a large number of stores which accept bitcoins. If you look at history, we came from trading precious metals/stones to paper currency and from there plastic currency (credit cards) and now the time if of decentralized cryptocurrency.
