I am blown away to see my earliest coins going for that much.  It's crazy.  Had I ever known...

Mike - I bought a 1BTC casascius series 2 coin from someone at a stall at Defcon XX (2012) - was that from you, or from a reseller?

Will

I talked one of the vendors into reselling them right on the spot.  I was there.  If you bought from me, I was wearing a custom made T-shirt that says "I SELL PHYSICAL BITCOINS" (made by the shirt press next door to the vendor you saw my coins at).

For being one guy, I sold quite a few coins in the hallways, and made a healthy convenience premium over spot price doing so.  It was like $9 BTC at the time, and I was asking $20 for one coin or $30 for two coins.  NOwadays buyers are willing to pay more than that just to order them online, so I can only imagine how well somebody would do selling them in person at a booth at DefCon this year.

Any chance of getting a 10 or 50 or 100  btc coin made in real gold??

Bitcoin mining is now a specialized and very risky industry, just like gold mining. Amateur miners are unlikely to make much money, and may even lose money. Bitcoin is much more than just mining, though!

In light of this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/190818189201
I am potentially willing to sell three of these.

That sale has to be insanity, desperation, or a scam. I would like to buy one and I'm willing to pay up to 2 BTC for a coin, but $1075 is crazy.

I suppose if people are taking collecting my coins seriously, I might as well point out that the series 1 coins were made and distributed in prefix order, with 11xxxxxx being the first, 12xxxxxxx being next, etc.  The lower the number, the earlier the coin.
Can you explain this further possibly? Is the prefix related to the public key?

Yes.  The ones pictured would be the 1Axxxxxx range.

Simply look up the pub key on blockexplorer to see when it was funded/created.

Mike..  See what you started?  Grin

I didn't see you at DefCon last year, but I was keeping an eye out (I arranged the onsite Bitcoin meetup - we missed 'ya there).  I saw the ones for sale at the Unix Surplus booth, but I told them it wasn't the same as buying it from the man himself.

I still have all of the series ones that I ordered, including the one with an offset address in a 2x2 you shipped.  These things are gems!

Anyways, OP. GLWS!

I see the value of Bitcoin, so I don't worry about the price...

Um ..   this is nuts.

Upon seeing this I contacted someone who has three (2 of the 15....., and 1 of the 14.....), series 1 funded in October 2011, and is willing to sell (auction with a 7 BTC or $1K reserve, whichever is less).

Questions asked, maybe more.

- What kind of condition are these in?
- Did you ever touch them with your bare hands?
- Where/how have they been stored?
- Are you the original owner?
- Do they have any visible tarnish on the backside?

I asked to get digital photos so that these can be reviewed prior to bidding.

Huh, I might stop at ebay now...  Grin

I have a 1exxxxxx 2011 (typo/series 1?) coin, and a 1Cxxxxxx windowed 2011 coin (series 2?).

Been keeping them in that tiny little yellow credit card sized envelope along with the 5 2012 roll-your-own blanks with loose private key disks... Even if only that typo one goes for that much I can hold onto the second one as my collectors wallet coin. Have been holding them both for a peak or stabilization price of bitcoin since I got them. If they stayed closer to only a few bucks I would have even given some away as interest attracting devices, but I moved and they were buried for a while in my boxes, and well, by then the price climbed, plateaued, then climbed some more! And interestingly all of the higher priced coins are 13xxxxxxx 14 and 15.  I have not seen (though some numbers are obscured) a 11xxxxxx or a 12xxxxxx yet go on ebay.

I have a 12xxxxxx

Does that make it valuable?

Tip Me if believe BTC1 will hit $1 Million by 2030

When I got my first coins I did not trust them so I used them for "testing" puposes.  I destroyed these two:  114cSY2W
115yvgWQ

Then I bought some more and this is my lowest one:  12A9ds8D

The eBay seller only has 1 feedback as a previous seller, I'd be nervous to bid that much with someone who's feedback is only from buys, or I'd like to do some extra verification about the seller.

Re: OP which country are you in please & are you taking bids in BTC or in USD or both, it's a bit confusing if both as the BTC/USD price is dynamic, I may be interested in 1 of these - could you list those available with prefix & funded date to save us looking it up, many thanks.
