Why did you chose mars ? Why not moon or maybe even Venus ? Jupiter could be nice in this time of year. Mars is booring, too much sand for my taste xD .

Jupiter emits lots of fatal radiation. It's orbit and moons are not habitable, even inside a heavily protected space station or a ship. Venus is too close to the Sun having a similar kind of radiation issue. But these kind of "escaping the Earth" scenarios are pure nonsense anyway. Even the ISS would become an orbiting grave to the astronauts when all the supply infrastructure on Earth would be destroyed and remaining governments using remaining resources trying to maintain order and find food supplies for their elites.

I am afraid that Kiribati is not a very wise choice. It is a group of low lying coral islands, already threatened by the rising sea levels. Nuclear strikes will cause the polar ice caps to melt, and these islands will be submerged under many meters of seawater.

Well i don't think those bunkers would even be safe from the blast itself though. And we're talking about nuclear war here, not just one or two detonations. Also it's effects on the environment would pretty much have the same consequences as radiation if nit worse.

And how long do you consider long? Just try to prepare food not for several years. The food should have long shelf life. How much do you need water? Even just without the sun people long to be able to live. To survive in the bunker will not work.

Well if its dug enough underground with good made concrete structure it could withstand nuclear blast and radiation of it. Ofcourse there should be enough food and drinkable water for humans to survive . As i said it is expencive but it is possible . Didnt know abouth town in Russia sound realy grate , would like to see something like that one day .

There is not a concrete tunnels. These tunnels are dug into the limestone and clay. From radiation they will not save, but from the effects of the explosion itself will save for sure. Moreover, the entrance to the tunnels is in the house and you do not even need to leave your home to the street.

Hahahaha nice thinking dude, that for sure would make you live true some hard nuclear time. You would have some grate fun with music and good booz, but there is a bit bigger problem than usa side, and that is hunger 😀 .

We have loads of fish that are easily catchable - every so often there are huge shoals of mackerel that come close to shore, and you can set up a rod and line with a bunch of spinning lures attached, and catch literally 10-30 mackerel in 1 hour. I've also caught a big bass spearfishing once with a mask/snorkel, and have dived down and collected huge spider crabs - 3-4 feet wide leg to leg (the body is smaller and inedible, but the legs are full of delicious tender meat, similar to the meat inside a large crab claw).

All of this seafood is easily cookable on a homemade barbecue or bonfire, and the fish can be very tasty raw, sashimi style, (but also works great on a barbecue). You can even take a walk 1/2 a mile inland and pick some wild garlic and other herbs to enhance your meal!

Food would be the least of our worries, looters and freeloaders would be more of a problem... We would need to get our defences and barricades sorted, and get some big security dudes to protect our cave.

It's hard to find proper guns here in the UK, so we would be using air rifles, farmers double barrelled shotguns and "black widow" slingshots to protect our cave commune!! (and also to hunt birds and squirrels to add to our fishing catch).
