If nuclear war broke out where's the safest place on Earth?

I must say that from what i saw on this picture it would not be only great place for someone to hide there, but it would be great place to live there. So beautiful... The way grass grow around house, and not to mention background and view of those mountains... To live there i think it is priceless... 

Iceland may be a bad choice. I agree that it is located far away from the mainland nations, but Iceland is completely devoid of forests. The Norwegian colonizers destroyed all the forest land during the 15th century, and ever since that Iceland has remained without woodlands.

That is an interesting point of view you have there. Hmm, but i don't think that China would be safe as you say. Yes, there are Chinese people all around the world, in many countries. And if we take United states as example, there are more United states citizens than Chinese one, so that mean that rebellion would be crushed. Its same in any other country.

Living rurally is the solution to this dilemma, I think.

And not just anywhere. You need to live a decent distance from a major population center. But there are unique benefits, I live rurally, I will explain:

1) bartering is still alive.
My neighbor to the right has a farm. My neighbor to the left has a farm, with livestock, as well. Suffice it to say, I can easily trade vice for.these resources, and have meat and vegetables despite if a supermarket is open, which leads me to

2) you can make your own food.
We grow about 50 percent of the vegetables we consume. If the shit hits the fan, I'm going to be eating mushrooms, leafy greens and fruit. And while I fucking heart bacon, I heart being alive much, much more.

3) communities and you
We are tight enough in our small community that those that produce food, can produce enough food to keep our community alive. Using the social network available, if you can contribute (labor is as valuable as skills) you will be fed. So survival essentially is a non issue.

4) we got gunz

I live in the country. I don't need to explain to you everyone here is strapped.

So, it's basically the cities that are fucked. Being rural means living. Independent of your local government, so the absence of government means little to Jack shit, in a situation like this.

I disagree with you 100%. If a nuclear war occur, the Chinese cities will be one of the first to be targeted. And the worst part is that unlike the US and Russia, China doesn't have advanced air-defense systems.

I don't know if it would still be safe anywhere, it would lead to collateral damages and other countries would also try to fight them who harmed their people. The safest place would be in outer space with aliens lol. Kidding aside, creating a vault that can last years would be great.

Nice choice. But the only problem is that the nearest piece of land is many thousands of kms away in Antarctica. So what will you do for food (if all the fish dies of in the nuclear attack)?

I don't think so. Not the fact that the fish will die. Look at the reaction of nature after the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power Plant. Catfish still live, animals live and reproduce, the grass and the trees have no problems.

I don't think even an uninhabited island can save you once nuclear war breaks out. The scale would be so immensely large that even the farthest and most remote places would be directly affected. We've all seen how a single nuclear bomb flattened an entire city, now imagine how hundreds of this would affect the earth It's destruction would be beyond imagination and nowhere would be safe

If I correctly understood the question, then you can answer it only one at a time. A safe place during a nuclear war is in a coffin. There will be quiet and calm.

I think best choice would be Germany because it's peaceful and well protected country. USA is a good choice too because it can grow corn and feed it's people. Only cockroaches will win no one can win ww3 I think Japan would be safe because they already won a tsunami disaster heavily prepared society

If you look at the animals living in the contaminated zone around Chernobyl, then you will notice that almost all of them have been affected by radioactive poisoning. They are alive and reproducing, but their bodies contain radioactive pollution. Even eating catfish is dangerous, as the radioactive Cesium can deposit in the body of the consumer.

From what I've been able to observe (remotely via the net) the creatures who live in the no-go zones around Chernobyl, including the humans, seem remarkably unaffected.  This is not really a surprise.  The ones which were more effected would be less likely to be observed.

The upshot here is that radiological effects tend to be statistical.  The take-away is that one should assume that they may find themselves among the living (even if the quality/duration of life is likely to have been compromised) and at least consider the possibility.  I've got Cresson Kearny's seminal book kicking around for this reason...and not just in PDF format.

I don't have a photographic memory so I reduced Kearny's work down to a basic instruction:  get 4 or more feet of dirt over the top of my head and try to keep it that way as much as possible for two or three weeks.  When I lived in an urban area I used to make a mentally note of where there were culverts under the freeway and what-not.

But many elderly people still live there and do not die quickly. After all, many years have passed since the Chernobyl explosion, and people after a couple of years have already returned back and live to this day. Of course there is no infrastructure, but life is still there.
