Thanks for this. For my small amount of btc (5-10) I won't bother with all the liveCDs, but it was informative, and I will consider it if I start to use btc more.

Hopefully this won't be quite as necessary when the new multi sig stuff comes in.  Should be a bit harder to steal (or spend) wallets after that if I'm understanding stuff correctly.

i think it impossible right now because with current block chain, bitcoin client must take a long time to update, it possible when you want to protect your file wallet.dat.

I used a linux live CD & the wallet generator found at bitaddress.org to generate a paper wallet (offline of course!) which my bitsavings are in.
