Jut got hacked today it's my 3rd time getting hacked but I figured out a strategy now so hopefully I don't get hacked again

How did you figure it out? (that you were hacked) And how come that you know it's the third time?

Par for the course for Windows? How people can consider this "normal" is beyond me.

Sadly, it is par for the course. For some people, it's something that just "happens" to these magical boxes, and there's almost nothing they can do about it.


Obviously, the steps outlined in this thread will work even today, but for someone lazy like me, it's far too much work. With some of the alternative Bitcoin clients coming out lately that have "offline" modes, and with sites like http://bitaddress.org/, it should be easier than ever to generate a private key offline and import the public address for sending money to it.

I can even imagine a market for a printer that can automatically print out new Bitcoin private keys and addresses (as QR codes, naturally) onto small cards that can be placed into a safe after scanning/typing in the public address onto a computer. Or the printer could even be connected to a computer and automatically send the address to the computer as it prints out the private key. Then there'd be less of an excuse not to securely store a Bitcoin "wallet" offline.

That's why I gave up on Windows long ago. Used to be one of the geeks with an overclocked water-cooled gaming machine, but found myself re-installing Windows every couple of months. It struck me one time, when trying to get drivers *on a floppy disk* for the windows XP installer: "Why am I doing this?". I think that was 2007 or so. Linux (and consoles for gaming) for me.... and I've never looked back.

I knew I was hacked because  I  checked bitcoin wallet balance on  blockchain.info
I saw that somebody sent 0.40 bitcoins out of my account

Here is how I got hacked the first two times

I downloaded a program called bitc0rn.exe  I thought it was gonna give me  free bitcoins it didn't it was a virus I removed the virus from my computer with my virus scanner and on January 25 2013  I get hacked 2 times  once in the escrow of localbitcoins.com  a 2nd time  somebody sent  0.997  bitcoins  from my wallet to somebody else's

(I think you accidentally put your response inside the post you quoted.)

Once someone has your private keys, they can spend your bitcoins even after you wipe out the virus from your computer. I suggest using a different computer to create a completely new wallet and then send all of your bitcoins to one of its receiving addresses.

I also suggest you stop downloading programs that promise to give you free bitcoins! If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

Echelon is the program that I use. I have my sentence pattern memorized, it's extremely easy I'm just worried that this is some kind of open source back door. But so far my few coins are safe.
