hi Spoetnik,
don't take this as me suddenly being anti litecoin. i still think litecoin is one of the very few honest coins e.g. it wasn't created merely to make the devs fiat (like 99.7% of other alts).

simply the path of the developers, at this point in time, does not fit with what i think is the way forward for cryptocurrency., doesn't mean they, or I am wrong or right.

you could potentially have a scenario where the things tested for bitcoin work with litecoin but bitcoin for whatever reason doesn't or can't implement them (eg segwit, LN), that would be big for LTC and anyone investing in LTC.

cheers
Kelsey

Finally, It has got released. But at least 75% of target and it seems like we are in the early consensus with 0 ratio percentage for supporting segwit.

Is the SegWit will be activating? Interesting for wait it soon.   Grin

i didn't invest in litecoin to be a testnet for bitcoin

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say it's the reason 99.9% of people invest in cryptocurrency - as a get rich quick scheme.

I think we see eye to eye often so i think i get what you mean.
I am not going to rain down hell on earth on LTC all of a sudden either.
People think i post to be a troll etc.
Only criticism i had on LTC i can recall was their talk of going "ANON" which i thought was a horrible idea.
I have often even given props to Monero and their shill's on occasion for being more sincere basically.
I only hope to cut through all the crap and be honest and see things honestly.

Holding grudges or being an irrational fanboy etc is all a bunch of crap.
We should be able to re-asses things as time goes on.

Interesting comment kelsey food for thought LOL

I used to hold LTC but have switched to NLG, you getting far more bang for your buck in terms of development speed and offerings. NLG did the 0.13 code base update before litecoin and awhole lot more. Dash and NLG are now my 2 alt coins of choice, not saying LTC is bad at least they keeping up to date but the marketcap is already close to $200 million where NLG is under $10 million and you getting much more.

Are you criticizing a speed improvement ?
Have we not heard complaints about it not being active enough code wise ?

A lot of the mining code out there was born from the early days of Litecoin mining too.
LTC helped pioneer this stuff big time.
They have paved the way for altcoins popping up years later.

Last i heard guys were talking about adding ANON features to it and i flamed it hard..
I still think it would be a really bad idea.
It's just not needed by the majority of us all.
I don't know about tracking stolen coins too much but if ANON helps them get away with it then i say think about that !
How often did you hear about a story where some guys BTC was stolen but they were able to track the coins ?
Me ?
I have nothing to hide either..

I also think ANON is picking a fight with major govt's ..a fight you won't win !

LTC can and should pursue what ever is good for the coin.
Improvements ?
People add them and they complain LOL
They don't add them and they complain  Cheesy

By the way.. i have not nor would i bitch if any other coin added Segwit too.

It is no criticism. I was only asking if there was really a need for segwit because it already has 4 times the capacity of bitcoin. The reason why some developers and users in bitcoin want segwit is because the blocks are getting full. Are the blocks of litecoin also getting full? I think not. So I question to what purpose does Charlie Lee and others want segwit?

You might want to do a little research on the multiple benefits of segwit. The fact that segwit allows a larger quantity of transactions to fit into a block is generally considered only a side benefit of segwit not the sole purpose as you seem to be suggesting. In fact Charlie has resisted a blocksize increase for litecoin for the very reason you state, litecoin doesn't need it.

It is Gulden, their 1.6.0 release had 10 updates with the code base update only being 1/10 of it.

You guys need to wake up and start supporting projects that are real. Like I said before litecoin is at least keeping up to date with bitcoin and isn't a bad coin which is why it holds a top 5 marketcap.

When you look into Gulden you realize how overlooked and undervalued that coin is.

Take the time to read through the 1.6.0 update on their blog page, you will need to scroll down a bit.

Ok then what is the litecoin development team purpose of implementing segwit since you know more about it and have done your research?

I was asking because I truly want to know what they intend to do and at what direction they intend to bring litecoin. Like do they also intend to create a lightning network for LTC?

@shyliar. Thank you for the link. I speculate that Charlie Lee wants litecoin to be first to have a lightning network created on top of their network. Maybe he already has plans to move his coin forward quickly after a long time of a slow down in development.

I think with Charlie you don't have to read between the lines. He tends to be very straight forward. That said I'm sure he's aware that the possibility exists that Bitcoin will never activate Segwit. Not because of any inherent flaw; but, because of egos and politics. If LTC activates Segwit and moves first with the Lightning Network it definitely will make for interesting possibilities. I do know that there has been a commitment of support from various parties. I think Segwit will be adopted quickly. I'll speculate also that not just Charlie; but, the people involved in the development of the LN are looking forward to that.

Good, I am a Bitcoin purist but bitcoin is too much stalled by politics (thanks BU people, Jihan and Roger Ver) if Litecoin follow up the path of Core (SW, ANON features LN and small blocks) i might convert my BTC stash in LTC one !

I would like to speak to litecoin supporter here and ask about their Vision as a community wide (especially if they have small block settlement layer Vision) !

One thing still worry me, the nearly 50 % F2Pool control of LTC, not good at all...

Actually i am bullish on LTC with the enthusiast for SW, LN and CT !

Good luck.  Smiley

F2Pool just recently asked some miners to leave and is planning on increasing fees to encourage fewer miners. Responsible pools do that.

I think we're seeing the advent of litecoin being a sophisticated testnet for Bitcoin, which is extrememly important. Let's face it, Bitcoin is in no position with its popularity to try new things such as segwit and LN with even the slightest chance of fucking up. Too much at stake. This "guiney-pig" approach has potential to establish that linkage between LTC and BTC that Charlie has always envisioned. Not only two currencies that compliment each other, but two strong networks that are bolstered through adoption of bulletproof code bases. Master the block chain P2P transaction technology. Let the other altcoins develop more risky technologies.

good to see there are updates from litecoin dev and they now have the new forum which is usually where we get to see some developments. I guess we're all going to be seeing some price hikes in the coming days of LTC.

Yes,

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=658541.msg17444324#msg17444324

it's good to see this happening, but think about it, all they did was to copy and paste bitcoin's core hard work. This only further proves bitcoin is king and got the best developers and the rest are just copying what they do.

With that being said, I hope to see segwit activated in litecoin as soon as possible.

The Beauty of "Open Source" LOL

Many people don't view LTC as a replacement though.. more as a supplement.
Since it's harder to get major changes done on Bitcoin..
then it's handy to have a go to coin that coin do them faster to get a preview of how it will work on BTC.

But a supplement of what? Bitcoin does not need a supplement. It is working ok on its own.

On litecoin's segwit implementation, is there really a need for this? Litecoin already is capable of 4 times the speed and capacity of bitcoin per block. What would segwit achieve? Are the blocks already getting full like bitcoin's blocks? I speculate this move is nothing but an attempt to gain some relevancy.

SegWit signaling doesn't even begin until January 28, this is why you don't see any adoptions yet.

32   Gulden Gulden   $7,260,153   $0.021441   338,617,045 NLG **   $28,750   -4.49%

** Significantly Premined

50% of all coins mined have been premined.......WOW
Not a good choice if you want to reside at the top of the pyramid

It is Gulden, their 1.6.0 release had 10 updates with the code base update only being 1/10 of it.

You guys need to wake up and start supporting projects that are real. Like I said before litecoin is at least keeping up to date with bitcoin and isn't a bad coin which is why it holds a top 5 marketcap.

When you look into Gulden you realize how overlooked and undervalued that coin is.

Take the time to read through the 1.6.0 update on their blog page, you will need to scroll down a bit.

You sound like I did in 2013 when referring to GME, look how that one ended.

@PoolMinor. I can see Charlie Lee's real motive behind the move. It is to bring back litecoin back to life and back in the spot light. Bitcoin's Segwit activation might not go on. Until now percentage of blocks signalling SegWit support is still stuck at 25%. There will be missed opportunities for bitcoin as far as scaling is concerned that Charlie Lee is willing to rush into with litecoin. I cannot say that I am not excited.

Yeah, BTC and Segwit are not going to happen, the core devs made it nearly impossible to activate.

SegWit and LTC, OTOH, has a much better chance given that F2Pool controls roughly half the hash rate. They have already produced statements showing that they will adopt the latest protocols as they become available.

I legitimately get more and more stressed every time I say this to someone. SegWit is not a block size scaling solution. SegWit would allow the implementation of Lightning Networks and Confidential Transactions. With LN we would be able to work on things like atomic swap txs, when you could seamlessly transact Litecoin on the Bitcoin network. And that's just the start.
