Their card services are the most expensive I have seen. Why is that? Wouldn't a bank grade service be able to offer something more competitive?

It is already competitive. The life cost in Switzerland is really high. And when it's about offshore banking you really need to spend the money to get access in. For example, if you check cimbanque, it is required to deposit a minimum 5000$. This amount is normal and usual. This type of bank is not for the average Joe making 1200$ monthly by working in a manufactory
Other bank services in this very list are offering cheaper to completely free EU-wide services. So in comparison to them I wouldn't say that it's competitive. The fees are just too much when other cards have none.

Is it of any use for the members of this forum though?

I did send 5 euro from Kraken to transferwise, to the Borderless account, and it worked.
I think that their FAQ is old, or maybe I was lucky.

This is a followup on my earlier post -

Since I don't expect to hear from them again I will go ahead and post my email correspondence with Mistertango support (timeline is from the bottom up, names and addresses have been removed...).

"Borrowing" a friends smartphone would compromise their privacy and security just so I can get verified.  You could easily get the documentation you need from a PC on the Internet, so I don't see any reason why you really need all these permissions on a smartphone...

   Version 1.11.9 can access:

      Location
         precise location (GPS and network-based)
      Phone
         read phone status and identity
         Photos/Media/Files
read the contents of your USB storage
modify or delete the contents of your USB storage

I opened a Mistertango account and I was very happy with the procedure. I am not royalty or a relative of the pope or the Sultan of Brunei so I am grateful and appreciate for the minimal effort and time required to open this account. I was neither asked to climb Mt Everest nor swim across the Pacific.

Positively identifying a client is a bank's core mandate and requirement. Lithuania is part of the EU and therefore observes strict KYC procedures.

The nerve and the audacity. Clients who throw tantrums or play the customer-is-king drama card are best contained quickly and advised to crawl back to that same hole they hibernated in or time-travel back to that age of no smartphones. They want this no-fee account. They want to be served in the year 2017, the age of smartphones. They want a means to move money from A to B. They want the free MasterCard. They want a bitcoin-friendly banking service. They want everything. But...

"Just don't ask me to do any work"

And then the bomb. The fellow thinks he is surrendering his privacy and compromising his security by signing up with a bank properly registered with Lietuvos Bankas, the Bank of Lithuania. He basically wants, additionally, to use a PC or some other device that will allow him (like many here) to bypass the very system which protects the bank from fraudulent applications. In his arrogant way of communicating with the bank, he makes every effort to convince the bank that HIS preferred way of doing it is the only way he wants it done. (try doing that with Citibank or Deutsche Bank or Credit Suisse or Bank of America...)

Nah, this strategy won't work. It's either you are truly throwing a tantrum OR you are attempting to fraudulently bypass Jumio, the intelligent identification system the bank has in place to thwart identity thieves.

One is best distanced from such people. Thus the third person talk.

He might be throwing a tantrum but you are expressing something interesting too: Stockholm syndrome towards the control freaks which are politicians and their banker shills (or the other way around).
The amount of KYC/AML/"compliance" nonsense exploded over the recent years (especially after 9/11 and the "war on terrorism" that followed) and continues to grow like cancer. These days banks essentially want you to be a salaried serf in some preferably large and well-known corporation to be "compliant." Everybody else triggers all kinds of red flags in their "risk profiling" systems. It has nothing to do with preventing fraud or terrorism funding. It is just that the cost of "compliance" has grown enormously for banks, so many of them do the simple thing: expect everyone to be "standard."

In addition, part of this are efforts to maximize theft ("taxation"):

This was posted so that people here can make an informed choice. If you like the service and are comfortable with your bank having access to basically everything you do and keep on your smart phone then great, enjoy. Your opinion doesn't entitle you to the righteously indignant ad hominem attack though.

While it's clear that you don't think that the bank should trust me, maybe you can also explain why I should trust a bank I don't know with my phones precise location (GPS and network-based) at all times, the ability to read my phone status identity and Photos/Media/Files, to read modify or delete the contents of my USB storage, to take pictures and videos with my phone camera, and all of this with full network and bluetooth access? Even if I trust a bank with all of this data that I no longer have any control over, then who is to say that the information will never be hacked, sold or leaked by insiders?

We are talking about a debit card that gets tanked up with my own money, so it's not like the bank is taking on any real risk here. Uploading a copy of my official ID, a recent picture, and some utility bills should be enough. The rest is no one else's business.

Paysera is big, with many satisfied customers in the Baltic states. If you buy a bus ticket at

https://ecolines.net/

You'll see the choice of "credit card" "Paypal" or "Paysera".

I installed the Revolut app on my smartphone, I thought I would order the card a few days later, but I've got notified that Revolut wanted to access my contacts, to inform them about how great their service is. So I quickly uninstall that app. Too intrusive. They don't respect my privacy.

I used to be a citizen and a taxpayer. Those days are long gone.

The funny thing is one of the investor company at transferwise.com is also an investor at Blockstream
@HostFat have you tried to transfer from transferwise.com to your bank account successfully? Without verification ID? Their limit look pretty high before they ask ID document

Paysera is big, with many satisfied customers in the Baltic states. If you buy a bus ticket at

https://ecolines.net/

You'll see the choice of "credit card" "Paypal" or "Paysera".

Yes, Paysera is quite popular in Baltics. But I don't like them, because it's not bitcoin friendly service:
Quote
According to the rules for usage of Paysera system, clients are prohibited from managing unlicensed virtual currencies (e.g. bitcoin). Therefore, transfers to systems which exchange such currencies are not performed
BTW, few days ago I was asked to upload photos of my ID and selfie with holding ID card, despite that that I already had uploaded it more than a year ago.

Do any of those services in the OP that offer a personal IBAN not require an initial transaction from another bank account with the same name to verify the account? For example, MisterTango, iCard and Paysera require this for level 3 verification.

Have you checked https://www.ferratumbank.com ?

The service seems free and there's a Mastercard too. Also advertised as multi-currency.

If I am not wrong Sogexia and N26 don't need an initial transaction. But you need to upload your id card, proof of address. N26 doesn't accept all ID cards so depending on your country you may need to send your license drive. If I remember you also need to do video call (on skype) as a verification process. I didn't find anything on Transferwise FAQ about this, other than a verification needed once you reach the limit (which is quite high)

Thanks. For N26, it wasn't a Skype call, but from within the app, and they are very thorough when they inspect your card. For Sogexia you just upload your documents.

I did send 5 euro from Kraken to transferwise, to the Borderless account, and it worked.
I think that their FAQ is old, or maybe I was lucky.

You were lucky I think. As today checking their FAQ carefully this is what I found:
Not only their faq says they don't support transfers from or to Bitcoin or any other cryptocurrency, directly or indirectly (as posted an user before)... But also they can't receive money from a bank account where the transfer won't bear your name as the account holder https://transferwise.com/help/article/2200390/creating-a-transfer/incompatible-accounts-and-currencies

We need a free bank account with integrated bitcoin. So we can be sure that there would be no difficulties to transfer bitcoin to the banc.

Thanks for the list.

I have 1 question - about taxes.

Let's look at this example: If I live in Slovenia and open an account, let's say in https://www.bunq.com, should I declare the money I get in https://www.bunq.com?

And now second example: Still I live in Slovenia, I'm having an account in https://www.bunq.com and I decide to withdraw money only in Italy or Austria (<1h drive). And never ever have a single operation in Slovenia. Do I still need to declare it?

Anyone in similar situation?
