I just added permalink feature. Everytime you move a map URL is updated so you can use this link to return to the exactly same map zoom you currently see ...

Bug report: Open http://coinmap.org/Go to the left, around the world. The map is empty (you can see the countries, but none of the badges). This means that there are multiple maps one next to each other, but the badges are located only in the “main” map. |

Looks really cool stick! I would echo the concern about how easy it is to add places though. Full blown OSM editing seems a bit complicated for a business to list themselves. Maybe you could have a queue of free-form reports and volunteers who like editing maps can do the work needed to make it all work for OSM?
One other thing that'd be great is integration with the Android wallet app so if you spend Bitcoin in a place, you can mark it as "shop that accepts Bitcoin" and it'll geolocate the current business and fill out an addition request automatically. I am guessing OSM doesn't have a whole lot of business data, but you could use the Google Maps API to figure out what your current business location is and then submit the free form addition request so a volunteer can patch up OSM. Or just allow both Google and OSM to be used.

I just launched http://coinmap.org/It's a map showing places where Bitcoin is accepted. All you have to do is to add payment:bitcoin=yes tag to your venue in OpenStreetMap. Venues are added automatically (database is updated every 15 minutes). The map also tries to determine the type of the venue from OSM tags and assign the correct icon. Stick, this is very slick. Well done! Keep up the good work! |

Good idea. Maybe just Google Docs Form will do... Will think about it. |

Well, a whole GUI flow that automates OSM is perhaps not quite as lightweight as a form backed by some volunteers. What happens if someone spams OSM via coinmap with places that don't exist, etc. Fully automated solutions are harder and might not be necessary here.

Basically you have to understand that this is a map. When I find something on a map I expect it to be exactly there and if I don't I am disappointed. People move, buildings usually not. |

Use the new Notes feature, instead of the old OpenStreetBugs, that's deprecated. Notes could be the feature you are searching for queuing new entries. [EDIT] https://github.com/prusnak/coinmap/issues/6[/EDIT] I was searching on openstreetmap and doesn't exist tag for merchants that allow online sales. The good of openstreetmap is that we can use any tag we want. So I was thinking that we could have, as our standard tag name, something like: web_merchant=yes or online_buying=yes.

I think what you want is to copy entries from this wiki page to OpenStreetMap and then just embed coinmap into this page. (Or just link to coinmap directly instead of the wiki page) |

Think in a supermarket that sell the products physically and by internet. I would like to see a way to filter the map to only show places that allow internet buying too.
This places could be tagged with something like: internet_buying=yes.
I think this is important.
I think a filter could be a good solution to the online/offline issue. I think it's legitimate for websites to list on the map because it can be pretty interesting for a user where they come from. An the more complete the listing the better. |
