Best Wallet Software?

Hey,

So I have heard lately that using a online bitcoin wallet (Blockchain, Coinbase, Block.io) etc... So I was thinking about downloading a wallet and let it sync with server and use that one instead, but I have never used one so I wanted to ask what is the best wallet to download?

there is no "best wallet" they are different wallets, each being different. you need to figure out which one is more suitable to your needs.

for example many users go for light wallets (SPV) because they don't download the whole blockchain and use less internet traffic and your hard disk.(30+ MB)

but also many want the privacy and security of a full node so they go with a full node and end up downloading the whole blockchain (100+ GB)

You did good by making the decision to stop using online wallets because they are indeed risky to use. If you want to download the whole blockchain then simply go with Bitcoin Core otherwise Electrum should be the best choice. If you have big amounts for daily uses then a hardware wallet If its for long term storage then paper wallets.

As other said alredy Op, there is not such thing as the best bitcoin wallet. Bitcoin wallets mainly fall into 3 cathegories: full validation wallets: Bitcoin Core, Armory.
Light Validation Wallets: Electrum, Multibit and online wallets services: Coinbase, Blockchain.info, Xapo.

Online wallets are less secure as in most cases you are not sole owner of your bitcoins and in case of online service outage your coins might be lost.
Full validation wallets require you to download and verify whole bitcoin blockchain - which is 108 GB ATM they are also serving as a node.
SPV wallets are light wallets working in conjunction with online server to get blockchain data. They are regarded as safe as no one but has access to your private keys.

IMO there is no need for you to use full wallet unless you want to help bitcoin network by running a node. SPV wallet will be easier to maintain.

Electrum is a nice bitcoin wallet, the best thing about electrum is that you won't have to download whole blockchain only block headers will be downloaded. i'm currently using electrum and will recommend you to use it too. 
 you can also use bitcoin core, but you'll have to download whole blockchain 100gb+ like BrewMaster said.

Go for Multibit and Electrum if you don't want to download the whole blockchain stuff as it takes a lot of time and space to download something that's more than 100 GB in size. Though, it's great that you want to, so you can begin your new journey with Bitcoin Core Desktop client. Still, it would be great if you take your decision based on Lauda's sticky thread.

Best wallet is always Bitcoin QT. The core wallet. But it's not for everybody, downloading the whole blockchain is a lengthily operation and needs some disk space too.
Electrum is the wallet I use and I can tell it has the most features you'd need. It doesn't need to download the whole blockchain so it's easier to use and it also has a portable version. It's however less secure than core wallet (but again, it's the wallet I use, so it's good).

If you start using local wallets and start sending out money with them, please make sure you check how busy the network is at the time you send and adjust the fee accordingly, else you'll end up asking around what you've done wrong and why your transaction takes so long.

I like multibit HD. Very comfortable and as i can tell safe. For android i have "Bitcoinwallet" which is not bad too (it has an address book and is able to do transactions with QR-Code)

Multibit wallet seems to be the best for a secure and transparent usage. It too has a good user interface than other bitcoin wallet for easy access. In terms of web wallet service I prefer Blockchain.info wallet.

Downloading bitcoin core wallet will take so much time so its better to have eletrum like light client which works just like bitcoin core but you don't have to download whole blockchain.

To be honest, the "best" wallet often comes from each user's preferences and you can not generalize "best" into choosing a good wallet. But if you want to have a lightweight wallet that doesn't consume much space and doesn't eat up a large chunk of your bandwidth by downloading a whole block, you can always try and use HD wallets like electrum and multibit. For enthusiasts and developers or for those who wants to set up a node, getting the Qt client is an essential part of it. For people on the go and likes to go shopping using their coins, I recommend you guys to use Andreas Schildbach's Bitcoin Wallet due to its reliability and it simply gets the job done: store, send and receive bitcoins.

Best wallet is indeed a paper wallet (though it is not a software one)

And the one which exists entirely in your head (but that's not for all and not software either). Apart from that, even if you are absolutely sure in the safety and security of your computer, you can't be sure that the desktop wallet you downloaded wasn't tainted. Even if you compile it yourself from source, you are not 100% safe since you should parse all the code that gets compiled into the wallet (or at least look at the diff if you have a legit "vanilla" source). But to do that you should at least understand how Bitcoin works in general to tell legit code sniffing in Internet for data from malicious code sending your wallet keys to a hacker

You are not specific about the type of wallet you need but form your post I can see you are familiar with online wallet. For desktop I will pick Electrum and for hard wallet I will pick Tresor.

Coinbase is not a wallet.  Coinbase is an account. There is a difference.  With a "wallet" you have full control over your money (just like you do when your local currency is in your real wallet in your pocket).  With an account, you give your money to someone else (typically a business) and they control the money for you (just like when you deposit your local currency into a bank account).

I like 2 things about Electrum, I am not sure if they are common though

- mass payments
- produces a seed (a sentence of random words) that can be used to recover your wallet

+1 for Electrum. I've been using it for years and it hasn't failed me yet!  

Tip: It can get slow if you grow a massive trans history w/ multiple addresses. This is easily solved by creating a new wallet.

If you want quick access wallet, use electrum or multibit.
If you want 100% compatibility with newest features or classic approach use official client bitcoin core.
If you want to try some nice looking software wallet, try others
