It's been a while since i gave Gliss a spanking and he ended up putting asterisk's on his site.

I think it's time the guy starts removing blatant scam coins like LEO Coin.
Putting them on there just helps make them look legit..

Agreed ?

Meh, they're not there for gatekeeping which coins are scams or not - nor should they be. They're just running a simple service without politics of what is considered a scam, just like exchanges or even this forum.

If anything, they help identifying scams by showing things like supply and volume.

They need also to remove all the pure ico shit, but they will never do that, there isn't a filter there so you can choose what to ignore and what to keep? for me i just don't care about those coin that are not in the top 10, and the top 10 is full of good coin minus ripple, which is not a coin

CMC is a dangerous tool for scammers and pumpers. How many times do you see MC used as a recommendation or proof of a genuine project.

Should have a big warning at the top of the page " most of these values should be taken with a pinch of salt as they can be manipulated with extreme ease "

It's not their job to police but if they are not going to have any standards for listing a coin and allowing themselves to be used as a reference for success or failure they should have a huge warning on their page these MC's are easy to game and not to be taken as a reference at all when looking to invest or recognise a useful/successful project.

I don't agree with you. I mean it might confuse someone new but if they decide to do this what would the criterion be in order to differentiate scam coins from 'real' coins ? Owner of scam coin can just argue why is my coin not here and someone's else is ? Better just leave it as it is. Add every coin and let users who use them decide if it's scam or not.

I guess the guy running that website got lucky by coming up with it first and getting a lot of traffic, because I assume that this guy is getting paid a lot of money by altcoin developers to list their coins there, so even the biggest shitcoin can get there as long as the devs pay him. Can't blame him, everyone likes to make money with as little effort as possible, sitting back and watching shitcoin pump and dump devs pay him to promote their coin seems like a plan.

The first rule of Altcoin investing is every single coin is a scam. It's not CMC's job to determine which projects are morally just or whatever. At the end of the day everything on that site listed (minus Bitcoin, maybe XMR, and maybeeee a couple of others) is a shitcoin. LEOCoin and whatever the hell else is on there might have no legitimate functions but that doesn't make them any less worthy of status as an altcoin.

We should support and then simultaneous bad mouth MLM Ponzi / pyramid scheme tokens ?

We should talk shit about them then trade them for profits behind closed doors but publicly slander them here then offer support for them across crypto posting them along side every other coin.
..because fair is fair huh guys ?

Yup.. it's only fair BLATANT scams robbing people of money leaving a trail of victims get fair treatment.

I love how you all simply fabricate and perpetuate a web of criminal fraud and then point at the noobs and laugh at them and chant "Due diligence"

It simply blows me away you think there needs to be a trade off here with that shit.
You are not protecting some freedom idealism rabble doing that.. you are spouting pure bullshit so you all can profit off of sketchy ass criminal bullshit.. at all costs ..no matter how many victims they create. (or how blatant they are)

In other words you supporters have the RIGHT to victimize people.
And you ARE a supporter if you use the blatant scam coins or add them to your pool, exchange or market cap site.
You are then just as guilty as the guys making them !

Ever heard of the crime possession of stolen property ?
KNOWING Is criminal Investards.

User demand huh ? That ole retort ?
If we let user demand rule we would have banks being ripped off wouldn't we ?
Wonder why they have financial laws ?
Because otherwise it would be over run with theft.. just like we have here in crypto.

It's far too late to chant "Free Market" guys.. it's dead.
Why do you think crypto-services collect ID and Tax laws were put out and plenty of investigations are happening plus arrests and fines etc ?

Nope.. you can't chant free market because one does NOT exist !

hashtag #SCAMMERS_HAVE_RIGHTS_TOO

Maybe the FBI should be investigating Gliss and his "Kickbacks' too ?

PS:
You can all change your vote if thought Spoetnik's freshly squeezed FUD was convincing Wink

Yes.

ALL that altcoin investing is is gambling. Money doesn't come out of thin air. For someone to profit, someone has to lose. Every time you are making money due to a trade, some poor sod lost just as much. Every bad trade you make benefits someone else.

Shit, this isn't even pertinent only to altcoins. This is how the world works. There are winners and losers everywhere. People have the right to abstain from participating in blatant scams. They have the same right to roll the dice and see what happens.

For example, I put a bit of money into YOVI back in the day. It's a ROM coin-aka a scam. However, it's made me a damn good profit and it keeps giving, and I don't feel bad about that at all.

You're taking a very polarized view.

I'm a hobby miner, so naturally profits are important but I avoid scams and I have never launched or even partake in the launch of any coin whatsoever - let alone ICOs.

Exchanges profit from scams, coinmarketcap and other services not (or very very little) so they're completely different.

And I think crypto being the wild west as it is is a thousand times better than one that would be heavily censored.

But... let's say CMC deletes scams and start only adding coins that meet their set of arbitrary rules. Let's say exchanges start doing the same, naturally each with a different set of arbitrary rules (some refuses ICOs, some don't, etc).

Then let's say this forum also heavily changes the rules on what coin threads to allow or delete based on yet another set of arbitrary rules. So now we have a set of rules so coins that doesn't break the rules must be legit, right?

For a bonus, let's say you attack a coin for whatever reason that isn't considered a scam and in return you get banned.

See how great censorship is?

It's safe to say there will always be scams and instead of censoring stuff, people should be educated on what to avoid - which you excel at more often than not.

I wanted to paste the link of a thread where CMC purposes and processes were discussed but towards the end of the thread you could see some lobby of projects owners to just appear on their website. This is where I might get confused on what the website stand for again

This is exactly right, coinmarketcap is not an authority on legitimacy, it's only a factor to consider when people research projects.

Coinmarketcap (or directly, Gliss), overall, is doing and has been doing a very good job at listing most coins out there -- what do you think, Spoetnik? If one needs the information, CMC delivers, doesn't it? And that's what the site is essentially all about: ranking coins for all of us to overview, analyze, compare. The way I see it, which coins as well as how they're listed and ranked right now (including the asterisks as you had proposed) seems all right for users to make rational decisions. Have you contacted Gliss directly about removing projects that have been debunked as scams?

I voted "Yes" because the "blatant scam" part convinced me. For coins that are designed to scam, removal from CMC is a rational step.

If a coin is a known scam, it should be removed. CoinMarketCap has a responsibility not to promote these scam coins or another competitor could take there business.

i agree but not with removing them from the list. at least not until it is 100% proven scam and by that time the coin itself dies, and it is automatically removed.

my reason is because calling a coin scam is too biased, i am not talking about a particular coin here obviously coins like what you mentioned is scam.
but saying something is scam is most of the time have more hidden reasons like FUD, competition,... then who is to decide? i'd say they should add something like a warning on them saying it is shady.

and in the end coinmarketcap and any other site like this are just lists with information on them and are always open to interpretation.

Oh he does a good job does he ?

REMINDER:

It was a little known guy here named.. SPOETNIK that got him to add the ASTERISK to coins.
Do you fathom what that means ?

Users were gaming the Market Cap data charts buy manipulating coin supplies with ICO coins.
I told him they were using it to rig the game in advance in an unfair way.
I told him i had guys selling info privately about what would leap frog the charts even before they released it ..for sale for a fee. (i still have the proof of this)

What did he do ?
Him and his cheerleaders here screamed FUD and Troll at me trying to insult and discredit me for ages.
Once again i had to defend myself.. on & on wasting my time defending myself from attacks.

Later..

Quietly when no one was looking he did what i suggested and.. added asterisk' to the site.

YOU ARE WELCOME UNGRATEFUL INVESTARDS  Grin

..and no of course i did not get an apology or even recognition for my idea and improvement on the entire crypto scene.

Quit playing stupid with idealistic rabble sleaze balls.
You know damn well that Noobs show up here and see coins listed on Exchanges and on CoinMarketCap and other sites then *assume* they must be legit *enough* to buy them etc.

I am talking about coins that are proven to be a fucking scam people.
Such as MLM coins that are verified.. like LEO Coin

LEO Coin is what i was thinking off starting this topic.
Things have changed people.. we have lowered the bar even more now.
Over time this has gotten more and more silly with pointless greedy cash grab scam coins.
It's time to rethink the whole "Freedom" bullshit routine.
For one thing it died long ago.. as you all mouthed me off all cocky saying, "They can't do anything"
Bullshit they can't.

- Tax laws can be put out. (like USA & CAN)
- FiNCEN can hand out fines (such as with Ripple)
- The SEC can issue a FRAUD Alert. (like they did on January 2016)
- Exchanges can be forced to rat out customers behind closed doors and take your Picture ID etc.
- Guys selling BTC on LocalBitcoins were arrested in Florida by the FBI in 2013.

You are forcing the govt's hand to enforce regulations and law on us all by playing dumb.
If you all won't police your shit they will do it for us !

You are saying hey we need to have freedom which in turn makes you a defender of Pyramid Scheme PONZI Coins like LEO Coin.. while you say it's because of idealism.. which does not exist.

There are consequences for your actions and you will all be held accountable.
And i know 99% of you are fucking big mouth pussies.
You will all be hiding under your bed or ratting out the guy next to you in a fucking heart beat.
You have BIG talk here but when it comes down to it and the cops come knocking.. none of you will man up.
When you are requested to come to court are you prepared for a lengthy COSTLY bill to back up your mouth ?

I am.

I paid the lawyer fee's for my battle with Bitcoin + Paypal and i won.. i kicked their god damn ass.

Ready to defend that scammer "freedom" Profiteers ?

..i think not Cheesy

PS:

The votes went from 50/50 to 75% YES = FUD is winning  Cheesy

PPS:
Gambling ?
uhhhmm yeah, no.
Gambling is regulated dumb fucks.. this shit is not.
Nice try, but retort fucking fail.  Cheesy

You all have never had a shred of concern for fraud victims.
You all don't give two shits as long as your precious scam scene is protected so You can keep exploiting naive users coming to crypto.
This whole, aww.. well, fuck 'em attitude is sickening.
