ooo but my very favorite bs is the *constant* "it's a good time to buy cheap coins!" it's never a good time to sell only a good time to buy and hold ...

When the market goes bull crazy many of the well known perma bulls in here make a few shorts. In the 1k rally risto, adam etc were all bears.

I don't know about risto, since I don't pay attention to him because I feel he has never been worth listening to, but I distinctly remember adam being bullish basically the entire way down, to the point where he lost his family over it.

Anyway, we're making fun of what permabulls say (or what they don't say, I suppose).

When we hit 700, then crashed to 400 then rallied to 1k+ Adam was a bear the entire time.

Hilarious catching up on this thread.

Everytime the price creeps up the cultists come out and proclaim a new era of monetarism; when it drops they shuffle back in their caves muttering how the price "doesn't actually matter".

Comedy gold..."its the new money".

Same can be said in reverse with the bear cultists... whats your point?

What on earth is a 'bear cultist'...it makes no sense.  I don't subscribe to any this bull/bear dualist view of BTC or indeed anything.

However, the cultists are, by definition, those who blindly believe, without questioning the unfolding evidence, and insist BTC will be worth 10K (etc), replace all other currencies and solve world conflict.

It would be quite sad if it wasn't for the fact most of them are arrogant, UScentric, wannabe rebels who dismiss other people's views out of hand; people like MoA make me sick, he wants the world to change to fit his own specific vision but doesn't want to engage with any contrary views because he contributed to a thread four years ago where everyone convinced each other BTC would succeed.

The whole BTC ecosystem is full of crazies like him whose (often complex and highly convincing) ramblings are actually creating a host of social and economic problems.

Suppose that the USD supply was limited to just 21.000.000 USD for the whole planet and the whole existing money supply.

Given that the USA current debt ceiling is standing at 16 TRILLION USD, just to cover this debt alone, the value of each "limited supply dollar" would have to be 761,904 "unlimited supply dollars".

It seems to me that in the long term there can only be two possibilities: either bitcoin will just disappear or remain the play-money of a very limited geek group or will rise in value to the six digit value against the "unlimited supply dollars".

The herd says dollars = dollars and btc doesn't matter ... even 6 years later ... seriously ... anybody i ever talk to about btc thinks im a fucking crazy person ... that's a hellllllluva looooooot of time for any sort of mass adoption to occur ... but if it ever is valued in the 6 figures well whoopdie fucking do i'm a millionaire for absolutely no reason at all besides i know about this ridiculous thing ... meanwhile the entire global order will have collapsed in order to cause that and a million dollars will be meaningless and we'll all be living in violent anarchy ... btw as soon as i saw the tv ad for applepay the exact words that came to mind were "ohhh fuck this is going to kill bitcoin for sure"

things i've been told/asked...until

working on computers (~2000/computer idiot)
internet(~2005/what do you need that shit for)
Texting (2010/why dont you call? texting is stupid)
smartphones (~2012/does it make you smart? who needs that shit? a phone is for calling and texting)
mobile internet(2012/what for?)

back at 2000 i had a discussion if i would say i am austrian or european...i said european...everyone called me a fool...last christmas the same people came up to me to tell me i was right

these are just a few reminders how stupid and slow the average joe usually is
i guess you are smart enough to google yourself how often even the brightest people were closed minded when it came to have a vision

70%  will think you are crazy but within 2 years EVERYONE and his grandparents could use a new technology (mobile phones, tablets)
at this stage only 10% of the people are even able to think of bitcoin as more than just internet stuff
people need ways to interact with the technology..-> VC put a shitload into startups to build exactly stuff that makes it usable for a "normal" person

don't count from day 1 of development
start to count now...in 3 years bitcoin/blockchain/cryptocurrency is EVERYWHERE

if you can't think around a few corners you should avoid this territory and use the internet for it's main purpose nowadays...porn...only

The whole BTC ecosystem is full of crazies like him whose (often complex and highly convincing) ramblings are actually creating a host of social and economic problems.

What does that have to do with anything?

Bunch of people in here are amped-up bitcoin supporters. On steroids. Some of them make political claims I agree with, some don't. More importantly, some of them have an unpleasant way of dealing with criticism and are not really worth having a discussion with in my opinion (though I don't consider MoA to be one of them). Maybe that was your point.

Then again, the exact same can be said for the bitcoin detractors. Some make good points (actually, there are not that many regular posters that fall into that category), a few make half way decent points but also get it wrong a lot of times (say, Jorge), and then there's a whole lot of trolls who don't even try to make sense or have a discussion.

Anyway, this being the speculation forum, both sides regularly mix up the political side, the technical side and the price of bitcoin. They really should know better. One could, for example, dislike the pseudonymous nature of Bitcoin and still expect it to be a wild success, and for price to reflect that. Or the other way around (like the pseudonymous part, but still expect it to fail).

Looks to me like you're essentially just saying "there's a bunch of self-righteous people in support of Bitcoin". Well, surprise... At the beginning of pretty much every invention or major change that brought humanity forward substantially, self righteous jerks were at the forefront of it. Same for every invention that falters, or takes the world back several steps. Problem is, we only can tell afterwards which of the two it is, so I don't take the fact that some in here are a bit too sure of themselves as an indicator for where we're heading. But perhaps that was your point: that it's amusing to see the effect the bear market has on them. Not my idea of entertainment, but whatever works for you.
