the last Friday in November is generally regarded as the day whereabouts retailers will have covered all their operating expenses for the year. In book keeping language they are "in the black", a holdover from when negative sums were entered in red ink and positive in black. Any remaining sales for the year will be profit. Hence "black Friday"

No problem, in North America at least, there has come a tradition of sales on this day and it is one of the busiest shopping days of the year in preparation for the Abrahamic consumption orgy of Christmas

Media exposure is huge this time.
Big indeed. This time we go mainstream for real, baby. 5 digits by next year. I can't tell if you are trolling, really. Bitcoin has gone up 10x every 10 months and 100x in the last 10 months. Why would he be trolling about 5 digits by one year from today? I think he meant next year as in 2014 in general, not one year from today.

Do you think the black-friday event could mainstream Bitcoin, so that no crash occurs? Edit: I read about this idea somewhere.

Can anyone point me to the last transaction fee discussion.
I think we really need those fees to go down so people can start using mBTC a lot more.

And we reached $1000. My countdown is over with 2 days to spare.
Like clockwork I'm telling you.
Nice call. I didn't believe we'd make it when you made the announcement...

That's not gonna happen for a long time. Merchants will want a stable currency. They have to buy in fiat, so they price in fiat converted to btc. If they have to change their (btc) price every 15 minutes they will chuck it out with the garbage. /Frank

I think you'll need more than that. Mrs. Shopper looks very closely at the price tags attached to the items on the rack.
I agree about the CC raping though.

Anyone got any speculation for where we are headed in the short term?
Seem's like everyone's just so surprised we broke $1000 nobody planned any speculation for afterwards, and I need speculation.
Surprised ? Who ? When it was crashing from 900 and we reached 550 USD I said : It will fall below 500 but 400 will hold. If 400 holds then we will hit 1000 USD within the next 10 days. And here we are 7 days later... All correct. Expect more of the same, going up strong with some corrections/ crashes on the way. For exemple we maybe hit 1600 before crashing back to 1200, then resume rise. I believe it can again double by the end of the year to 2000 USD. A more conservative estimation is 1500 USD by the end of the year. In 2014 I believe we'll witness the bull through the 4 digits with the 5 digits in sight. When we reach 5 digits is anyone's guess but I personally see it happen within 12 months. In a system of logarithms where your value goes up 10x in 10 months, the 1s should take about 4-5 of those months. Even if we go up 10x in 5 months, like we did this year, the 1s should still take 2-3 months.

yeah, and that's fine, Ms. Shopper can think of prices in USD and pick out a sweater for $45, upon approaching the till she asks the girl if she can pay in bitcoin. The girl smiles "of course" and slides a laminated QR code over to be scanned. Ms. shopper snaps it, enters $45, and pushes send, a few seconds later the till beeps and prints a receipt. Behind the scenes the phone app calculates the exchange rate and transfers the appropriate amount from a dedicated mobile hot wallet.
